It was Monday morning.

The house already smelled faintly like coffee and toasted bread by the time I walked Leo toward the front door with his backpack hanging crookedly over one shoulder.

“You have everything?” I asked while fixing the collar of his tiny school uniform properly.

Leo nodded confidently. “Yes.”

“You sure?”

He paused dramatically before opening his backpack to check again.

I smiled faintly despite myself.

Hayes stood near the door scrolling through his phone while waiting for us,

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Ford looking at Pierce. Then Pierce looked at me.The side-eye exchange alone almost made me laugh.Oh God.“What a gentleman,” Ford said seriously as he placed a piece of steak onto Hayes’s plate.“For real, bro,” Pierce added with a solemn nod.I lowered my head immediately to hide my smile. These idiots.Couldn’t even pretend to behave normally in front of a guest.“Don’t even say anything, Pierce,” Ford continued. “Or maybe we should talk about Natasha.”Hayes chuckled quietly into his drink.“Yes,” I said immediately as I pointed my fork toward Ford. “About that. I forgot to ask. Thanks for reminding me.”Pierce rolled his eyes dramatically. “There’s nothing to talk about.”“Oh, there is, Pee,” I replied instantly. “Come on. Spill.”Pierce pointed his fork at me accusingly. “We don’t want to do this in front of our guest.”I glanced toward Camille. She had paused eating now and was quietly watching us before immediately looking back down at h

I headed upstairs once the food was fully arranged on the table. The house felt calmer now.Not quiet exactly.I could still hear Pierce and Ford talking downstairs, their voices carrying faintly through the hallway, but it felt normal.I stopped in front of the guest room door and knocked softly before pushing it open.Camille was lying on the bed.One arm was beneath her head while she stared blankly at the ceiling, as if she was somewhere far away in her mind. She turned slightly when she heard me walk in.My chest tightened a little immediately. Her eyes were swollen.Red too.She had definitely cried after I left earlier. But now she was changed into an oversized hoodie and softer-looking sweatpants, her dark hair slightly messy around her shoulders. She looked more comfortable physically.Emotionally though? Not even close.“Dinner is ready,” I said softly.Camille hesitated briefly before sitting up slowly.“Okay.”She got off the bed quietly and followed me downstairs. The clo

I collapsed onto the middle of my bed the second I entered my room. Flat on my back. Still in my heels. For a few seconds, I just stared at the ceiling without moving. The house was quiet up here. Too quiet after the kind of day I’d had. My body felt heavy. I closed my eyes briefly and exhaled slowly through my nose. I had gone through a lot. Now seeing Camille like this broke something inside me. I swallowed hard and pressed the heels of my palms briefly against my eyes. Deep down, I knew that Camille’s situation was definitely bigger than it seemed. My phone buzzed against the nightstand beside the bed. I frowned slightly before reaching for it. A message from Mia. Tomorrow’s schedule. I opened it lazily, scanning through the meetings absentmindedly until one line made my stomach tighten slightly. Kings Company — 11:00 a.m. I stared at the screen for a few seconds. So he actually made an appointment. A humorless breath escaped me quietly. Of

I knocked softly against the guest room door before pushing it open slowly. The room was quiet.Camille sat near the large window beside the bed, her body turned slightly toward the fading evening light outside. She had changed already. Fresh clothes. Her dark hair looked slightly damp near the ends like she had washed her face recently. But somehow she still looked exhausted. She turned quickly when she heard the door open. For a second, something nervous crossed her face before she immediately tried to compose herself again.I gave her a small smile as I walked further inside.“How’re you feeling?”Camille lowered her eyes almost immediately.“I’m doing better,” she said quietly. “Thanks to you.”Her voice still sounded careful.Like she was afraid of saying the wrong thing. Before I could respond, she spoke again quickly.“Thank you for letting me stay here tonight.” Her fingers tightened together slightly on her lap. “And I’m really sorry for inconveniencing your family. I promise

The rest of the day dragged painfully slowly despite how busy I was.Meetings.Phone calls.Fabric approvals.Last-minute adjustments for upcoming designs.Emails that refused to stop coming in.But with all of that, I was still distracted. Every few minutes, my thoughts drifted back to the hospital room.Camille’s face. The panic in her eyes. The bruises near her wrist. The way she reacted the second we mentioned family. My chest tightened again just thinking about it.By the time I finally checked the time on my laptop again, it was already almost four in the evening.Finally.I leaned back slightly against the chair before shutting the laptop slowly.I needed to go home.I needed to see how Camille was doing.I quickly cleared the remaining files from my desk before grabbing my bag and walking out of my office.Mia looked up immediately from her desk the second she saw me.“Done for the day?” she asked.I nodded once. “Yeah.”Almost immediately, she started packing her things too

By the time I finally got back into my car, my head was already pounding. The hospital smell still clung to me faintly.I tightened my grip slightly against the steering wheel before exhaling slowly.Hayes had insisted I leave.“You have work,” he told me calmly after Camille finally settled down a little. “I’ll take her home.”I didn’t feel completely comfortable leaving them.Especially not with the way Camille looked every few seconds toward the hospital door like someone would suddenly walk in and drag her back somewhere she was terrified of returning to.But my phone had been vibrating nonstop for nearly an hour.Mia was calling nonstop. So eventually, I left. The drive to the company felt blurry. My mind kept replaying everything.Camille’s shaking voice. The bruises on her wrist. The genuine fear in her eyes.My stomach twisted uncomfortably.I parked quickly before grabbing my bag and walking into the building. The moment I stepped out of the elevator, Mia practically rushed t
