CHAPTER 7 - I LIKE IT

last update publish date: 2026-08-27 12:14:23

(Adeline’s POV)

I stared out the passenger window, pretending the city was more interesting than the man sitting beside me.

It wasn't.

Not even close.

Travis drove with one hand resting casually on the steering wheel, his attention fixed on the road. He looked completely relaxed, as if picking up his best friend's sister from campus after sleeping with her the night before was the most normal thing in the world.

I, on the other hand, felt like I was seconds away from exploding.

“Where are we going?” I finally asked.

“Lunch.”

I turned toward him. “I didn't agree to lunch.”

“You're hungry.”

“How do you know?”

“I watched you spend half the party eating beside the pool.”

My cheeks warmed.

“You were watching me?”

His lips curved.

“Maybe.”

I immediately looked away.

That stupid smirk.

“You're unbelievable.”

“I've been called worse.”

“I'm sure.”

Silence filled the car again.

I tried to focus on the buildings passing outside, but my mind kept dragging me back to last night. Every time I remembered something, my stomach twisted.

I hated how easily Travis made me nervous.

And I hated even more that I liked it.

“You've been avoiding my messages,” he said.

I stiffened.

“I've been busy.”

“Too busy to answer one text?”

“Yes.”

“Interesting.”

I glanced at him. “What's interesting?”

“You're a terrible liar.”

I rolled my eyes. “And you're an annoying person.”

“Yet you're still sitting in my car.”

“You practically kidnapped me from campus.”

“I asked you to get in.”

“And you didn't exactly give me much choice.”

He chuckled.

I crossed my arms. “Besides, I have somewhere to be.”

“Your friend can wait.”

“No, she can't.”

“Then I'll take you there after lunch.”

I frowned. “Why are you doing this?”

He glanced at me briefly.

“Doing what?”

“Showing up at my campus. Taking me somewhere. Texting me.”

His expression became quieter.

“Because I wanted to see you.”

My heart skipped.

I immediately looked away.

“That doesn't mean anything.”

“I didn't say it did.”

“Good.”

“Unless you want it to.”

I turned toward him. “Travis.”

He smiled.

“What?”

“Stop.”

“Stop what?”

“Whatever you're doing.”

“I'm driving.”

“You know what I mean.”

His smile faded slightly.

“I know.”

For some reason, that answer made me even more uncomfortable.

The car eventually slowed in front of an elegant restaurant tucked between several upscale buildings. Its tall glass windows reflected the afternoon sunlight, and a valet immediately approached us.

I stared at the entrance.

“You brought me here?”

“Yes.”

“This place looks expensive.”

“It is.”

I turned toward him suspiciously.

“Why?”

“Because I wanted somewhere quiet.”

“Quiet?”

He nodded.

“So we could talk.”

I swallowed.

That sounded much more dangerous than a crowded party.

Travis got out first and walked around the car. Before he could open my door, I pushed it open myself.

“I can do it.”

“I know.”

He stepped aside.

I climbed out, adjusting my blazer and smoothing my purple dress.

His gaze briefly traveled over me.

I noticed.

“You're staring.”

“I know.”

I narrowed my eyes.

“Stop.”

“No.”

My cheeks heated.

“You're impossible.”

“And you're beautiful.”

The words came so naturally that I didn't know how to respond.

I followed him toward the entrance, trying to ignore the butterflies in my stomach.

Inside, the restaurant was quiet and elegant. Soft music played in the background while sunlight streamed through the enormous windows.

The hostess smiled.

“Good afternoon. Table for two?”

Travis nodded.

I followed him toward the table, still confused.

Once we sat down, I immediately reached for the menu.

“This is ridiculous.”

“What is?”

“You're bringing me here.”

He leaned back.

“Why?”

“Because Jose would lose his mind.”

“Jose doesn't have to know.”

I looked at him sharply.

“That sounds like something a criminal would say.”

“Maybe I am one.”

I laughed before I could stop myself.

Travis's eyes softened.

“There.”

I frowned. “What?”

“That laugh.”

“What about it?”

“I like it.”

My smile disappeared.

I suddenly found the menu fascinating.

“Don't say things like that.”

“Why?”

“Because…”

I stopped.

Because I didn't know what to do when he was sweet.

Teasing Travis was easy.

Fighting with him was easy.

But when he looked at me like that, I didn't know where to put my eyes.

“Because what?” he asked.

“Because you're making this complicated.”

His expression became serious.

“It was complicated the moment you walked into my villa.”

I swallowed.

Neither of us spoke for several seconds.

Then he leaned forward slightly.

“I know you regret last night.”

I froze.

“I didn't say that.”

“You didn't have to.”

I lowered my gaze.

“I don't regret everything.”

His eyes remained on me.

“But?”

I sighed.

“I don't know what I'm supposed to think.”

“That makes two of us.”

I looked up.

“You?”

He nodded.

“You surprised me, Ava.”

“How?”

“You were nothing like what Jose described.”

I frowned. “What did he describe?”

Travis smiled faintly.

“His annoying little sister.”

I gasped.

“He said that?”

“Frequently.”

“I'll kill him.”

Travis laughed.

“And apparently,” he continued, “you were supposed to be harmless.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“Am I not?”

“No.”

The answer came immediately.

My heart began beating faster.

Travis leaned back as the waiter approached our table.

“We'll have two iced waters first,” he said. Then he looked at me. “And whatever she wants.”

I glanced at him.

“I'm choosing.”

“Of course.”

The waiter left.

I looked across the table at him.

“Travis?”

“Hmm?”

“If Jose finds out…”

“I know.”

“He'll kill you.”

“I know.”

“And probably me too.”

“I know.”

I sighed.

“You don't seem worried.”

His eyes held mine.

“I've dealt with worse.”

“That isn't comforting.”

A slow smile appeared on his face.

“Don't worry, little canary.”

I frowned.

“I'm beginning to hate that nickname.”

He grinned, "I'm the exact opposite."

(Adeline’s POV)For a moment, I stood frozen in front of him, my tongue heavy, my chest tightening as if every breath I took weighed twice as much.Travis should not have been here. Not in front of my campus, not in front of my friends, and certainly not looking at me with that sly, knowing grin that turned my insides upside down.“What are you doing here?” I managed, my voice sharper than I intended. He tilted his head slightly, as if I had just asked the most ridiculous question in the world.“I told you, didn’t I? Collecting what’s mine.”Heat rushed to my cheeks, and I quickly glanced over my shoulder. Jasmine’s mouth was hanging open, her eyes darting between us like she was watching a forbidden scene in a movie.Madeline wasn’t far behind her, pretending to scroll on her phone but clearly eavesdropping. Great. Just what I needed.I clenched my fists by my side. “You shouldn’t be here.”“And yet,” Travis said smoothly, “here I am.”His confidence was infuriating. The way he carri

(Adeline’s POV)I stared blankly at the whiteboard, trying to follow the professor’s ramblings on abnormal behavior theories, but my brain had officially checked out the moment I stepped into class. My leg bounced under the desk, hands nervously clutching my pen as I scribbled useless notes that made no sense.Stay calm. Focus, Adeline. Focus. But it was impossible. My heart wouldn’t stop racing, and every few seconds, flashes of last night slammed into my head like waves. Travis’s lips, his touch, his damn smirk that could set any sane girl on fire. It was a mess. I was a mess.I squeezed my eyes shut. Get it together, Adeline. The worst part? My phone kept vibrating every now and then in my bag. I didn’t have to look to know who it was.The unknown number that popped up just an hour ago, right before class started, was enough proof.Travis.I hadn’t replied, hadn’t even dared to open the chat, afraid that if I saw his words again, my cheeks would catch fire right there in the middle

  • EXCLUSIVE NIGHT WITH MY HOCKEY MAN   CHAPTER 4 - MY PREY

(Travis’s POV)The morning air still clung to my skin, cool and sharp, as I pushed open the door to my villa after a quick run around the neighborhood. I wasn’t usually a morning person—especially after a night of heavy drinking—but something about this morning had me restless.Or maybe… someone. My pace quickened as I headed upstairs. Part of me was curious, part concerned. Mostly, I just wanted to see if she was awake.Little canary.I didn’t expect her to stay the night. Honestly, I didn’t expect the night to go the way it did. But it had.And now… I couldn’t get her out of my damn head.I reached the bedroom door, nudged it open—and stopped. The bed was empty. Her wrinkled dress was gone from the armrest. The scent of her skin lingered in the air, subtle and teasing. But Adeline? She was gone.A slow smirk tugged at my lips.“She ran away,” I murmured, amused. “Cute.”I leaned against the doorframe for a moment, picturing the way she must’ve crept down the stairs in that too-short

(Adeline’s POV)A groan escaped my lips the moment I stirred awake, my head throbbing like I’d been hit by a freight train. Sunlight pierced through the curtains, stabbing at my eyes. I squeezed them shut, grimacing as I shifted my body—only to freeze.Something was… off.I blinked my eyes open, glancing down. My heart shot up to my throat.“Holy… hell,” I whispered.I was in a strange bed, clothed in nothing but an oversized t-shirt that clearly wasn’t mine.No panties. No bra.Just… bare skin underneath the soft fabric that smelled faintly of expensive cologne and something deeply masculine. And then it hit me.Flashes of last night’s recklessness played like a movie reel in my head—the loud music, the drinks, the wicked glint in Travis’s eyes, my daring words, his hands gripping my hips… the heated kisses… the way he whispered my name like it was a sin and a prayer.“Oh my God,” I gasped, hands flying to my mouth as I sat up straight.I had slept with Travis.Juan’s sworn enemy, th

(Travis’s POV)I shouldn’t have brought her here. The moment I saw those wide, doe-like eyes staring up at me—half defiant, half curious—I knew Juan’s warnings were justified.Adeline wasn’t the harmless little sister I’d imagined. She was a firecracker dressed in purple, and the longer I stayed near her, the more dangerous it became… for both of us.And yet… here she was. In my villa. In my upstairs bedroom. Sitting on the edge of the bed, looking like sin wrapped in innocence.“This is a bad idea,” I muttered, running a hand through my hair as I stood by the door.I should’ve taken her straight back to Juan, but Adeline had practically dragged me up here herself, eyes sparkling from the drinks she’d had… drinks I should’ve stopped her from finishing. Her cheeks were flushed, lips parted. Her blazer was already abandoned on the floor, leaving her in that ridiculous excuse of a dress.“Bad idea?” She tilted her head, her voice soft but mischievous. “Then why aren’t you leaving?”Good
