2. Act my age

Kai-

“Any updates, Marvin?” I scratched my head, frustration finding its way through my words. “Did you find her?” I asked, my voice laced with anticipation however, his drooped head made me lose every rope of hope I had, “then leave if it’s not about her.”

“We have a situation, sir.” He stood before me, his eyes gawking at the marble beneath him, “Mr. Ashton McCoy’s daughter, you have to meet her tomorrow.” He sent his words in an irritating wavelength that I tried to avoid but couldn’t. “Dawn McCoy,” he said, “only child, mother died when she was eleven, grew up with a man called Ivy, finished her studies from Harvard, wants to become…” he paused longer than needed, piquing my interest, my mouth opened.

“What? Wants to become what?” My leg tapped against the floor in anticipation waiting for him to speak, “a fashion designer? A teacher? Give me a typical profession that every girl chooses nowadays,” The fact that Kai Eldorado’s wife needs to work makes me scoff at the heavens and the Earth.

“It’s weird,” he scoffed, “she wants to become an animator.” I rose up from my seat.

“She? What?” My head bobbed once to suppress an uneasy laughter threatening to ripple out of my soul.

Dawn McCoy, a girl I have to marry, “and her looks?” I said, leaning on my recliner, trying hard not to look incommodious.

“Sir, looks?” his voice coiling around mischief. “We have a picture of her if you’d like to---” he extended his arm placing the photo on my table.

My eyes moved around to fall on the girl I'm about to marry, I never thought about marriage ever since I can remember breathing. Love, marriage, family, these terms make me insane to an extent where there’s no hope of survival.

Marrying her didn’t bother me, I won’t stick my nose in her business and neither would she, a being I'm unaccustomed with will live with me makes me nothing but curious to know her more.

Yet, I didn’t look at her, wanting to love the thrill, diving under the deep waves of anticipation, judging her purely by her looks, just as I check other girls, I want to live in that moment.

“Never mind,” I stood up, “I’m sure, she’s not beautiful.”

“But you didn’t look at her, sir.”

“I don’t need to.”

“She’s…” he halted, “beautiful, sir.”

I turned to laugh at his gibberish and left.

A marriage I'm forced into, a marriage I don’t care about, a girl I'm not interested in, a life I have no wish to live…

I guess it’s fine, letting her in, I guess it’s fine.
