27. A million different pieces

[Layla’s POV]

It had been two days since I had woken up in Xavier’s bed after saving his life. I was informed that the assassin had been caught, but he had ended up dying, so there was no clue as to who had sent him to hurt Xavier in the first place.

I was basically living with Xavier, seeing as I shared his room with him. According to him, he was in the process of decorating an empty room in the Palace to suit my taste, and during the time, he never slept next to me. He always left the room when it was getting dark and he was hardly ever around because he was always busy with one thing or another.

Heaving a sigh, I picked at my food lacking the appetite to eat something. I was bored, and there was nothing I could do here.

The sound of footsteps approaching made me sit up and lit a smile on my face. I already knew the sound of how he walked, and I couldn’t wait for him to get here.
