Chapter 34

{CATERINA}

I was finally alone. And I wasn't enjoying it as much as I thought I would.

I was left alone with my thoughts, and the silence was deafening.

I laid on the bed for the better part of the day, and all I did was stare at the beige ceilings. I tried so hard to take a nap, but sleep didn't come. I kept tossing and turning on the bed, and I kept letting out groans of frustration every few minutes.

I finally had a room to myself, and I thought I was going to be happy about it, b

    Chapter 50{ALESSANDRO}I crashed into my chair as soon as the door clicked shut behind my brother. My head fell back against the plush leather, and I closed my eyes, groaning. Everything felt too heavy, the weight of the world pressing down on me. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d fucked up, and I had no one to blame but myself. I had let my guard down with her. I’d actually started to care, to like the damn thief. I’d let her get under my skin, and for what? A momentary escape from the cold, emotionless world I’d built around myself? That fucking teddy bear, the soft laughter, the way she looked at me with those wide, trusting eyes… I should’ve known better.The anger built in my chest, not at her, but at myself. She was the enemy—an asset to be used, not a person to coddle. And I had taken her out. I had tried to make her feel better, given her a taste of normalcy, as if I wasn’t supposed to be the one causing the chaos in her life. Fucking idiot.Lorenzo’s words rang in my ear

  • Entangled With The Mafia Underboss    Chapter 49

    Chapter 49{ALESSANDRO}My heart skipped a beat.Not the kind of flutter people wrote poems about. No. This was the jarring kind—a skipped beat that echoed like a gunshot in a quiet room. Luca’s words hit harder than I wanted to admit.“Boss, your brother is here.”Lorenzo.Of all people. Of all nights. Of all damned moments.I clenched my jaw and forced myself to stay calm, to breathe like nothing was unraveling under my skin. There was no reason to panic. Not yet. My brother showing up unannounced could mean anything. He could’ve just dropped by for a drink. A meeting. Hell, maybe he missed me.But I wasn’t naïve. Lorenzo never did anything without a purpose. And right now, I had a bad feeling I was his purpose.“Where is he?” I asked.“In your office,” Luca replied, his eyes flickering briefly to Caterina.Of course he was. My brother didn’t wait around in parlors like a guest—he took thrones.I turned to Caterina, trying to keep my voice even. “Go to your room. Now.”She gave me a

  • Entangled With The Mafia Underboss    Chapter 48

    Chapter 48{CATERINA}A wide smile was on my face as I walked to the car with Alessandro. We had done everything I wanted to do at the amusement park, and now, it was time to go home. Alessandro had no expression on his face, but he looked relaxed with his hands in his pocket. I walked happily behind him, it almost felt like I was galloping. That was how happy I was. We finally got to the car, and I got into the passenger's seat while Alessandro got into the driver's seat. We fastened our seatbelts and he drove out of the park's parking lot a few seconds later. The drive was silent as Alessandro focused on the road ahead. I on the other hand, was revelling in the bliss of the trip to the park. I had so much fun, and I was glad Alessandro was able to do that much for me. I held the teddy bear he won for me close to my stomach as I rested my head on the headrest. Today was a great day. Several minutes passed, and we were still on the road. The car was engulfed in silence as none of u

  • Entangled With The Mafia Underboss    Chapter 47

    Chapter 47{CATERINA}I was quiet the entire time as Alessandro drove us back home. A part of me felt like I had done nothing wrong by trying to showcase my newly-learned ability to play blackjack, but the better part of me knew I had made a mistake by being too smug and not listening to Alessandro. I couldn't bring myself to think about what could have happened if Alessandro hadn't handled the situation properly. I glanced at Alessandro, and his focus was on the road ahead of us. His jaw was clenched, a deep frown on his face as he drove. I could tell he was mad, but he was doing a great job at not showing it. I debated apologizing to him, but I decided against it. Maybe I was wrong, but I had to keep some of my pride intact. Or should I just apologize and get it over with?I decided that apologizing to him was the better thing to do, so I cleared my throat and turned in my seat to look at him. “Alessandro,” I called his name, and he spared me a glance before looking back at the roa

    Chapter 46{ALESSANDRO}The air had shifted.I felt it in the way the casino floor had gone quiet, in the way the men around us held themselves just a little too still. Caterina might have thought this was just another game, but I knew better.I kept my grip firm on her wrist, my pulse steady despite the slow burn of irritation creeping up my spine. She had no idea what she had just walked into. The moment she sat down at that table, she became a piece on the board—one I wasn’t willing to lose.The man in the navy suit—Adrian Voss—watched me with a knowing smirk, his dark eyes gleaming with interest. He leaned back in his chair, fingers tapping a slow rhythm against the green felt of the poker table. He was enjoying this.“I insist,” Adrian repeated, his tone smooth but edged with something far more dangerous than simple amusement.I met his gaze, unwavering. If I refused, I’d be admitting weakness. Walking away wasn’t an option, not now. Not in front of these people.I could feel Cat

  • Entangled With The Mafia Underboss    Chapter 45

    Chapter 45{ALESSANDRO}The drive to the casino was quiet, the only sounds filling the car being the soft hum of the engine and the faint music playing from the speakers. Caterina sat beside me, occasionally glancing my way, but I kept my eyes on the road. After our little shopping trip, something inside me felt off. It wasn’t the boutique, nor was it the way she had moved in front of the mirrors, teasing me with every dress she tried on. No—it was the way I reacted to her.I was losing control.And I didn’t like it.I pulled into the underground parking lot of the casino, easing the car into a space before shutting off the engine. “Stay close,” I said, undoing my seatbelt.Caterina scoffed. “I’m not a child.”No, she wasn’t. But she had a way of attracting trouble, and in a place like this, trouble wasn’t something I could afford.We stepped out, and as soon as we emerged into the main entrance, all eyes turned to us. The casino was buzzing with energy—rich men throwing around money
