Chapter 12
Her mouth parted and closed several times like a fish out of water, the silence thick in the air. His gaze locked with hers.
Her heart thudded rapidly in her chest. There was no bit of his usual teasing smirk on his face, but she would be a fool to believe him.
“That’s not true.” And even if he were serious, she didn’t care. She belonged to no one.
“Really?” He chuckled. “Then why else would I do it? I must admit that your fear entertains me. You might have gotten it over with last night if I didn’t interrupt, but where’s the fun in that? He’s on a trip right now, and till he’s back, you’ll have to continue living with that fear of it happening, which I feed on.”
His words left her starstruck but not surprised. This man was a psychopath, after all. She’d have said more if his right-hand man hadn’t interrupted.
She turned to stare at the man with dark brown hair and eyes which stared calculatively at her. He had a stoic expression on his face as he gave her a slight bow, which she returned.
She saw it as her cue to quickly excuse herself from there, and she gave the psychopath one last stare before she left them and headed back inside.
Rico’s eyes latched onto the retreating figure of the girl. Heaven knows what his boss was planning to do with his brother’s… soon-to-be wife. Was he planning to fuck her or something?
He wouldn’t have cared if this wasn’t the girl that was essential for the peace treaty between the Vicenzo and the Lorenzo mafia empires. He couldn’t help but be worried because his boss often tends to do the most unbelievable things.
“Take your eyes off her, Rico,” Leone subtly warned, but the truth was that there was nothing subtle about this man.
Rico quickly whipped his head to stare at his boss, who had a stick of weed between his lips. His eyes widened in shock—was he interested in her?
He clenched his teeth, trying to school his facial expression.
Leone flung the back door of the car open and then got in, shutting the door afterwards. Rico quickly hopped into the driver’s seat, and he drove them out of the empire.
His eyes remained fixed on the directions on the screen, and from the corner of his eyes, he peered through the mirror to see Leone leaning his head on the headrest. A silent sigh flew through his lips as he wondered what was going through his head right now.
An hour’s drive was all it took for them to finally reach their destination. Leone alighted from the car instantly, and so did Rico.
They stood in front of an old, shabby house. Leone took his stick of weed from his pocket before lighting it, and he placed it between his lips, dragging smoke from it.
Without knocking, he flung the door open and made his way in. Although it looked shabby from the outside, the inside was luxuriously furnished.
His boots thudded against the white tiles as he made himself comfortable on one of the sofas, legs crossed. Even without looking around, he knew that someone else was in the house.
“Wait outside, Rico,” he ordered, and Rico simply nodded and followed his instructions.
Ten minutes later, a man with a wrinkled face and a few gray hairs on his head stepped into the living room. His eyes widened in shock on seeing the devil present in his house.
“Nice hide and seek game, Antonio” He tilted his head as a devilish grin made its way to his lips.
Antonio almost had a heart attack. Never in his wildest dreams had he thought this devil would find him after he had escaped his dungeon.
“How… how did you find me?” He took a step backwards as he stylishly reached for his gun.
Leone leisurely took another drag from his stick of weed as he stared at the wall in front of him. “I thought you wanted to die so bad? How come you didn’t end your life the moment you fled the dungeon?” he chuckled.
Antonio glared at him, because this devil knew too well that no one really wanted to die. He had only said that due to the immense pain and suffering he had undergone.
Not wasting a moment longer, he quickly pulled out his gun, and luckily was able to shoot Leone on his shoulder. He tried shooting him again, but unfortunately, his gun had run out of bullets—blood drained from his face.
Leone let out a melancholic chuckle, and then he rose to his feet. As foolish as it was, Antonio tried to flee—to run out of the house—but the doors were locked.
He banged, kicked, tried to open up, but someone must have locked it from the outside.
He turned to beg, to plead for Leone to spare his life, but before he could even utter those words, Leone’s hand had snaked around his neck, his grip tight and firm that air couldn’t pass.
The blood that gushed out of his shot arm and the wicked grin on his face only made him look even more like a demon who had escaped from hell.
Antonio didn’t expect what happened next—Leone stuck the weed which he had been smoking from into his eye.
Antonio screamed in pain, his eyes burning from the scorching heat, and blood rushed out of his eye. Leone’s grip on his neck only tightened more, making him have a peek at the afterlife—only his was nothing but burning flames.
When Leone saw he was at the brink of death, he let him go and dragged him to his car. Rico revved up the engine, and the ride back to the Vicenzo empire began—back to prison, where he would continue his eternal suffering.
Leone’s mansion, 9 PM…………
Leone stood at the rooftop of his mansion, where he could see the whole empire, a vape pen placed between his lips from which he dragged smoke.
The air was cold, the wind blew softly, as if carrying whispers with it. His shot shoulder had been treated and bandaged.
Rico stepped onto the balcony to see him there and bowed, even though Leone had his back to him. He cleared his throat. “I’ve made sure Antonio is back in his cell, boss, and I saw to it that only the most competent guards guard his cell,” Rico reported.
“Good,” Leone nodded. “Schedule an eye surgery for him with Doctor Chen.”
“As you wish, boss,” he bowed again. But instead of leaving, he lingered longer. “Boss, you said to withhold any attack against Domenico till we found Antonio, so why did you engulf Domenico’s weapon vault in flames?” The question has been hunting his mind since the incident and he finally mustered courage to ask.
Usually, no one had the right to question him and still remain alive. But Rico was his right-hand man for a reason—he was different from the other slow-witted people. That was why he brought him closer to him.
“Yeah, I did.” He blew out smoke from his nose and mouth as he turned to face him, leaning his back on the railing.
“Then why did you do it, boss?” A minute passed, and he received zero reply from him. He was about to wave his question when his boss finally spoke.
“What would you do if someone were to reach out for the last piece of the precious cake you had?”
Rico’s brows knotted in confusion, not having a clue what this had to do with Domenico’s weapon vault.
“I’d do anything it takes to stop that person from having it,” he answered.
“There’s your answer,” Leone chuckled darkly.
Chapter 45:Anna’s eyes flew wide, not believing what she was hearing. Was there a reason to? It’s not like it was true. Was it okay to care that he was getting married to this chirpy woman? Why did it feel like a heavy stone had been placed on her chest? If this was true, she should’ve heard of it sooner, not now, right?Did Leone know about this? Her lids twitched as she stared at the girl who kept rambling about it. If it was true and Leone knew, wouldn’t they have said something when they met each other in the lobby?Plus, Leone would’ve told her. He would.“I’ve never been to Italy before. You don’t mind showing me around when I come, do you?” Erica asked, waking Anna from her trail of thoughts.Except the place was her bedroom, Anna pretty much didn’t know anywhere else in Italy as she was cooped up in that mansion day and night. Her eyes trailed up to Erica’s neck to see the golden chain dangling on it. Anna mustered a small smile. “That’s a beautiful chain, Erica. I’m sure it
Chapter 44Her breath caught in her throat. Even if she tried to avert her gaze from him, she couldn’t; his large frame covered her completely.Anna’s lips parted, cold sweat rolling down her back as his eyes probed for answers. She placed her trembling hand on his broad chest. “People are watching, they would think we’re having an affair.”Her words were soft, her eyes averted his. Leone chuckled, pulling away from her, and Anna finally got a chance to take a breath. Her eyes stared at Leone’s hand, which he had stretched out for her to take. Anna hesitated for a moment before taking it, and he helped her out of the car.Her eyes fell on his bodyguards, who kept their distance away from the car while they waited for them to step out. With the door now shut, Leone walked up to the head of his guards and they exchanged words in Italian. Anna, who couldn’t understand one word they were saying, swept her eyes around the building—a large skyscraper with Alessandro Group boldly written on
Chapter 43All his life as a mafia, he had never lost hold of his control; instead, he had been the puppeteer—one who pulled strings to ensure that others were the ones to lose themselves and their sanity. It was safe to say that he had been undeterred, one who would crack a joke even if the world was burning to ashes, but now, he couldn’t get a grasp of himself when it concerned her.She was filling up his mind; he was slowly losing it. He hadn’t bargained for all this. All he knew was that he wanted her.He had always been the one to take, not giving a damn or considering anyone or anything. What he wanted, he always got, but now the case was entirely different. This little peach in front of him—she was the first thing that he wanted but hadn’t gotten. The need to have her was what was making him lose his mind.It wasn’t like he couldn’t kidnap her and have her all to himself. It wasn’t like he couldn’t take her far away where she would have no one else but him to lean on. He just c
Chapter 42Anna stared at him, her heart a complete mess, her brows knotted in confusion. Under normal circumstances, she would’ve reminded him once again that her name wasn’t Peach but Anna, but now—now seemed like no time for that.Knowing she couldn’t refuse him and it would take one slight tug for him to get her out of the car, she reluctantly took off the seatbelt, her hand a trembling mess as she got out of the car.Anna almost couldn’t breathe upon realizing that this was actually a bridge—one push, and she would land in the afterlife. Her heart was a racing mess as she stared at him, and with the way he had parked the car in the middle of the road, it meant cars didn’t go through this route, and if Leone truly had bad plans, there would be no saving. He slammed the door behind her, her breath hitched, her back pressed on the door frame as he cornered her, slamming his hand at the side of her head.“Is something wrong, Peach?” His head tilted as he stared at her, and Anna was l
Chapter 41Anna didn’t wait a second longer before walking away from him, but that didn’t prevent his cold, shrewd eyes from lashing on her back. She saw no use in him calling her that—a special name—when they were nothing. Taking a deep breath, she got into the car, and then he followed suit.Anna was queasy, anxious, and nervous. The Don had only told her they were here for business, and the thought of what kind of business they were here for had been haunting her mind.It was no secret that the top mafia clans engaged in sex trafficking. Was Vicenzo part of them? From what she knew, the Lorenzo mafia clan never engaged in such, so was it possible that the Vicenzo, being the king of other mafia clans, engaged in it?Anna couldn’t watch such atrocity being committed right in front of her eyes, and she doubted she would be able to control herself if that were to be the case.Having never been to Madagascar, Anna’s eyes remained fixed outside the window, staring at the large skyscraper
Chapter 40Her chest tightened, her heart sank at the very thought of it. Worst of all, she couldn’t even refuse. She hated to say it, but she’d rather go there with Domenico than Leone at this point—she didn’t want to be anywhere near him.She had a million things to say, and the word “No” constantly resounded in her head, waiting for her to voice it out, but she held it back in.The Don kept staring at her, waiting for a response, but was it needed, when there was only one thing she could say?“Yes, Don,” was all Anna could muster, and she quickly excused herself from there, not wanting to be anywhere near Leone. She couldn’t even ask how long she would be staying. All she felt was this ache in her chest that prevented her from saying anything more or staying here any longer.…………When she got to her room, she was a bit shocked to find Chiara packing her things in a suitcase.Wasn’t it just minutes ago that the Don broke the news to her, and suddenly her things were getting packed u
