Chapter 11

His eyes held something sinister in them, and that smirk promised her no good.

Was he the one behind the fire attack? But why would he do that for her? The coincidence was quite alarming, and she had only told him about Domenico a few minutes before the incident.

His nonchalance… but then again, it could simply be him being Leone. She watched him leave her to the thoughts that clouded her mind.

She turned back to watch. They had successfully put out the fire. She could see Domenico fuming with rage and a guard trembling in front of him. Domenico suddenly pulled out his gun, and Anna quickly turned her back on the scene, but that didn’t mean she didn’t hear the loud gunshot that followed. Goosebumps formed all over her body. This was the world she was born into, and from the look of things, she might die in this world too.

2 weeks later……………..

Anna sat alone in the garden, her blonde hair packed into a neat ponytail while she held a book in her hand, and although her eyes were fixed on it, her thoughts trailed elsewhere.

Since the incident, she hadn’t seen Leone nor had she seen Domenico, which she was extremely grateful for. She didn’t want to see him. He scared her, and she had seen how powerful and merciless he was. Who knows when he might decide to hit her or worse, kill her?

She wished there was a way she could defend herself. She had spoken to the Don about it, but he had blatantly refused. If only there was a way she could defend herself—undergo some kind of training perhaps—so she could learn to protect herself, it would really be helpful for her.

She couldn’t stop thinking about that night. Domenico was this close to having his way with her. Earlier before that, she hadn’t meant to tell Leone about it; it had been a spur of the moment. She hadn’t expected what had happened.

She had overheard a few intel reports about the fire that night. Up until now, no one could figure out how the fire had started. A mysterious fire in the middle of the night? How possible was that?

And the look Leone had given her that night, like he was giving her a room of suspicion. She bit her lips, releasing cold air from her mouth.

She shut the book and started staring into space. Why would Leone do that for her? He was far from kind. It had barely been a month since she met him, and he had aimed his gun at her thrice already.

Her throat felt parched, so she left the garden and began heading for the kitchen. As she walked, she saw some guards headed her way, and they gave her a bow before they walked past her.

If someone had told her that she would become a respected figure in the strongest mafia clan in the world, she’d have pegged the person to be insane. But here she was now.

A few months ago, she would have definitely thought that she would be the happiest human in the world upon hearing she would be in this position, but it was the direct opposite for her.

Each day, she felt like a huge axe hung over her head by a thin thread. Her heart felt like there were thorns pricking it.

She couldn’t tell. She didn’t know when Domenico’s head would snap and then kill her. And there was Leone, who was toying with her for his personal entertainment. She felt like he had placed her in front of a cliff and was only toying with her as a means to kill time. Heaven knows when he would decide to push her off the cliff and end her.

There was the Don, who seemed considerably nice with her, but who knew what went on in his head behind those shrewd eyes of his? Was it possible that he didn’t have something up his sleeves like her father? It was hard to believe that he was fully into the peace treaty.

There was that and also the fact that they didn’t know she wasn’t related to the Lorenzos by blood. As if that wasn’t enough, there was also the plan to poison them they knew absolutely nothing about.

Her heart ached from carrying all these worries. She had never asked for this to begin with. She was content with being a servant. At least then she had Rocco. Now she might never see him again. She missed him and the love they shared, and she missed Philomena. She had to get out of here—she just had to.

She got to the kitchen and took the water she needed. She turned to head back to her room when she saw him—the man who was always beside Leone. Did it mean he was here right now?

She clutched the glass of water in her hand as she began heading outside the mansion, not waiting a second longer.

Her breath caught in her throat when she saw him leaning on his car. He wore a loose black T-shirt, which would have looked normal on anyone else, but for him, it looked like a weapon for a fashion war.

His taut chest peeked out, and Anna’s eyes trailed to his muscular arm and then the veins that danced from his elbows to his palm. He wore black trousers and then black boots. His neck and wrist were adorned with diamond chains.

His hair tousled by the wind, his gray eyes finally met hers, and time seemed to pause as he held her gaze.

His phone was placed on his ear as he spoke over the phone, but his eyes continued to hold hers. Anna finally got herself back after a good ten seconds, and she slowly walked to stand in front of him. And even if she had maintained a good distance between them, that didn’t stop his expensive cologne from hitting her.

It had been a good two weeks since she last laid her eyes on him, and she definitely wasn’t standing here because she missed him.

“Don’t tell me you missed me, peach?” His voice jolted her from her thoughts. Deep, calm, but yet unraveling.

“Why would I miss you?” She rolled her eyes. This man had been nothing but a thorn in her flesh.

Not wasting any more time nor giving him a chance to utter any foul words, she quickly cut to the chase. “You—you are responsible for the fire that night, right? My instincts keep telling me you did it, but why?”

A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “Why?” he repeated.

“Did you do it to… help me?” Her blue eyes shone with uncertainty as she stared at him. “Why would you help me?”  As stupid as her question sounded in her ears, she needed answers because would he do that for her?

“Because you’re mine, Anna,” he deadpanned, the smile long gone from his lips. And Anna was waiting for him to complete his words—to say she was his to kill and dispose of like what he had said the last time—but that moment never came.

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 37: A Taste Of His Own Medicine

Chapter 37Anna flipped the pages of the book in her hand, her eyes following every word, her lips pursed. She now sat in an outdoor garden from where she could see some of the guards and the servants who did their work.Anna couldn’t fully place her hands on it, but something was off. The air carried so much stiffness; even the workers didn’t bother to dwindle around. Like programmed robots, they minded their work.“Madam Anna,” she heard the soft feminine voice call her, and Anna instantly turned to see Chiara standing behind her, who gave her a bow. “Your lunch is ready.”Anna mustered a smile. “Please bring it to my room,” she instructed, and Chiara nodded.Anna was in no mood to have lunch alone in the spacious and lonely dining hall—that, and also risking having dinner with the two brothers who were always at each other’s throats.Where one had begun acting strangely nice to her, the other one—who had done nothing but pick on her and make her life even more miserable than it alr

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 36: Clearing The Weed

Chapter 36Domenico struggled for breath, his own life flashing in front of him. He tried using both his hands to free himself from Leone’s grip, but his attempts were futile, and it seemed like this time around Leone was really intent on killing him. Tears spilled from his eyes as he battled for his life.“Leone,” the Don called, and Leone rolled his eyes before letting go of Domenico’s neck. Domenico gasped for breath, his eyes dilating as his lungs struggled to collect the air.“Anything but that, Leone. You know that,” Enzo said, his tone grave.“No one touches what is mine. You know that, Don,” Leone’s jaw ticked as he stared at his father, who was ready to pull all strings to ensure he didn’t lose his son.It was shameful that Domenico, the future Don of this empire, now had his life in the hands of his younger brother. He didn’t want anyone witnessing this.Enzo took a sharp breath in. “Anything else but that,” his tone sharp and clear, his eyes unwavering. He walked away from

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 35: An Eye For An Eye

Chapter 35Enzo stood at a far corner, with a grim expression on his face, his lips pressed into a thin line. He watched Domenico and his men carry out their work. He already knew how this was going to end, and the thought of it all made him shake his head.Yes, it was true that Diego had been his consigliere, and the least he owed him for his dedication to the empire was a decent burial, but what he also didn’t need was any of his sons going 6 feet under the ground. His memory jogged back to the conversation he had with Leone:“Dig around my tree, huh?” Leone chuckled, something that left him a bit starstruck because everyone knew how much he cherished that tree—the only standing memory he had left of his late mother because she planted the tree herself.“Alright then.” Leone’s eyes remained a wild shade of gray.Enzo knew neither of his sons were normal, but this one—Leone—his was on an entirely different level.“So you are okay with digging around the tree, to clear your name from

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 34: Brewing Chaos

Chapter 34Anna’s eyes remained wide. For a moment, it felt like time had paused between them as she tried to process the words he just said.He wasn’t being his usual irksome self. His gray eyes were calm and held a kind of warmth she had never seen in them since she knew him, but yet she couldn’t completely trust him. Why? Just why was he suddenly telling her he liked her? When he knew too well that she was going to get married to Domenico. Aside from that, she had no feelings for this man. She liked Rocco. Even if she had let him touch her that night, that didn’t mean anything, right? That didn’t mean she wanted any of this.“I don’t have feelings for you.” The only feeling she had felt towards him up until now was immense hatred. That was it.“I didn’t say that ’cause I give two fucks about what you feel.” She felt his grip on her waist tighten. “I said that as an answer to your question.” He flashed her an insincere smile.Anna blinked twice as she stared at him, and then he let

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 33: Raging Mafia

Chapter 33Domenico’s eyes flew wide. He wasn’t stupid enough to miss the hidden meaning behind his words. He gritted his teeth, his fist clenched. A second later, Domenico lunged towards Leone, grabbing the collar of his shirt. He dragged him up and slammed his back on the wall.“I’ll kill you,” he gritted. “Your heart will rest in my hands.” His body shook fervently as he boiled with rage, while Leone, on the other hand, appeared calm—like he was an angel from heaven. But everyone knew he was the master puppeteer of the devil in hell. “Too much anger makes people shorter,” Leone raised his hand to pat Domenico’s head, which flared his anger even more.He raised his hand to throw a punch at him, but Leone, being taller and far stronger, easily caught it, twisted his hand behind him, and slammed his face on the wall. Domenico grunted in pain. Not just his hand but he felt like his ego was twisted also. His jaw hardened, and he skillfully reached for a dagger in his pocket, but Leone

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 32: Irksome Mafia

Chapter 32Her eyes flew wide, his action accentuated by the crackling sound in the burning fireplace. Her lips parted repeatedly, tongue-tied and speechless at what he had just done. She rubbed her now bare neck, which hadn’t been hurt when he tugged the necklace off, as he had done it with so much precision.“You—” she tore her eyes away from the fireplace, now glaring at him, who was already looking down at her. “You had no right to do that.” She took a sharp breath in, trying to build back her resolve, which always seemed to crumble anytime she was with him.“Hmm? Don’t I?” He chuckled, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.Anna was perplexed. What was she going to say once Domenico asked her for the necklace he had given her? What if he hit her—or worse—when she couldn’t provide it?She balled her fists as a tear slipped out of her eyes. She hit his chest repeatedly. “What the hell is your problem, Leone?” Her voice broke at the end.She bit her lip hard, staring back at him
