Chapter 126

Anna clutched the phone tightly, her heart racing in her ribcage. She froze on the spot; minutes passed without either of them uttering a single word.

“Lisa Pietro,” she said firmly once she finally found her voice. She ended the call immediately and then tossed her phone on the bed.

How dare he have the guts to call her after abandoning her for six years. Her hands suddenly began trembling; a tear slipped out of her eyes as all her emotions burst out.

No matter how much she tried to hold herself, to hold it all in, she couldn’t. In that cold lonely night, Anna cried her eyes out. She couldn’t handle the pain; it was all too much, it felt like her heart was being twisted in her chest.

More tears poured out of her eyes. She was trying so hard, fighting so hard even, but why did it feel like the stronger she became, the harder the challenges grew? She, too, craved someone to lean on; she just wanted to be free from all these burdens. She was tired of fighting.
