Chapter 19

Anna’s back straightened as the Don’s eyes scrutinized her. They sat together alone in a spacious room, a glass of wine on her lap, which she held with both hands.

Her toes curled inside her shoes; her handless top made it easier for the cold air from the air conditioner to leave goosebumps.

It wasn’t like she hadn’t been expecting this talk—she had, ever since she shot the butler to save her neck. The guilt pressed heavily on her heart, birthing the growing urge to rip her own heart out.

Each second that passed, she felt even more guilty than the last. She wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. She badly wanted to ask how the butler was doing, but she didn’t even know who to ask.

The Don suddenly let out a chuckle, making her blood run cold.

“You know, before, I was apprehensive about whether or not you’d make a good wife for my son, Domenico.”

She took a deep breath, wondering where this was going.

“But now, Anna, you’ve proven your worth,” he smiled proudly. “Your wise and precise judgment makes me believe you will not only make a good wife for Domenico but a good lady of the empire.”

Anna released the breath she had been holding. Her muscles felt relieved after the earlier tension.

“Thank you, Don Enzo,” she smiled politely.

Anna hadn’t seen this aftermath coming after making that decision. She had made it in seconds, but thankfully, it would work out for erasing the Don’s suspicion of her. This way, it would be easier for her to make her escape.

However, the smile fell from her face at his next words:

“For this, I’ve arranged the date for your engagement with Domenico for next month. The engagement would be a good way to end the year.”

Her heart dropped, her feet became cold at the news—engagement!?

“Your family will be here soon. Francesco has sent word that he and the rest of your family miss you a lot and would like you to spend a week with them before the engagement.”

Anna’s face paled even further at the striking news. What he thought was a reward for her was actually the worst punishment anyone could give her.

She had felt a bit relieved. She had tried to push everything to the back of her head. She thought there was enough time to get a good grip on things, little by little, but she had been wrong.

The engagement was fast approaching, and soon they would be married. This would only tighten the chains around her; it would make it even harder for her to leave the clan. If the world knew she belonged to the first son of the Don of the Vicenzo mafia empire, it wouldn’t just make escaping hard—it would make it impossible for her.

She wasn’t ready to see her father, to see his consigliere, his wife, nor her sisters. The thought of what they were capable of made her shudder. She knew their plan was to torture her, to keep her mind focused on the mission.

The mission to poison the Don along with his sons and end their mafia clan.

Anna forced a smile.

“Thank you, Don.”

With that, he dismissed her.

That night, sleep felt more than impossible for her. She was wide awake, lost in thoughts.

The harder she tried to run, the faster her problem chased her. She wondered if this was her karma for shooting the butler.

Her heart felt so heavy, like a huge stone was on top of it, stopping her from breathing. Now that things had taken this sour turn, she had to escape from here as soon as possible. But even if she found a way to escape, what about Philomena?

Her father would direct his rage on her. She felt so lost, tired, and confused. Everything was too much for her to take in. She wished she had someone. She missed Rocco, and she wished she could hug him right this moment.

Her eyes had become swollen from how much she had cried. Now she couldn’t cry anymore; her eyes hurt way too much to let more tears out.

She got out of bed, pacing round her room. She tried to ease the tension she felt. Her so-called family hated her to the core. Her sisters were not just thorns but daggers in her flesh, and Francesco’s wife—a devil’s spawn.

All these years, she had been living her life in total misery. She had been screaming, but no one was hearing her. She was tired of this suffering. She just wanted to be free from all of it.

Her movement paused when she heard a noise on her balcony. Her heart raced, her breath caught in her throat.

Her feet padded slowly against the floor, inching closer to the door. Her hands reached for the handle. She pulled it open, only to see Leone’s back to her.

Why the hell was he here? She currently had a lot of problems to handle, and she didn’t need him tonight—or any other night, in fact.

He wore a loose white shirt, black pants, and black boots.

“Why are you here?” Anna asked, her voice cracked from how much she had cried.

He turned, facing her. A golden chain with a cross pendant dangled on his neck. His usual taunting smirk stuck on his lips as he stared at her. That was her reminder that she looked horrible—with her swollen eyes and dull face. Even her hair was scattered all over her face.

Leone began walking towards her. His boots made dull thuds as he covered the distance between them. He stood in front of her, only inches away.

His larger frame towered over her completely, and like usual, she felt like a child in his presence. Her eyes widened when he crouched down, one of his knees now on the floor. His thumb caressed the wound on her knee, making her shudder.

“Seems better,” he muttered. Anna looked down at him in shock, but all she could see was his midnight black hair, which now fell across his handsome face.

He raised his head, staring up at her, his gaze holding hers, his voice now softer than usual:

“Are you okay, Peach?”

Chapter 32Her eyes flew wide, his action accentuated by the crackling sound in the burning fireplace. Her lips parted repeatedly, tongue-tied and speechless at what he had just done. She rubbed her now bare neck, which hadn’t been hurt when he tugged the necklace off, as he had done it with so much precision.“You—” she tore her eyes away from the fireplace, now glaring at him, who was already looking down at her. “You had no right to do that.” She took a sharp breath in, trying to build back her resolve, which always seemed to crumble anytime she was with him.“Hmm? Don’t I?” He chuckled, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.Anna was perplexed. What was she going to say once Domenico asked her for the necklace he had given her? What if he hit her—or worse—when she couldn’t provide it?She balled her fists as a tear slipped out of her eyes. She hit his chest repeatedly. “What the hell is your problem, Leone?” Her voice broke at the end.She bit her lip hard, staring back at him

Chapter 31She gulped saliva down her dry throat. How the hell was she going to get out of this now? The last time, Leone had saved her, but this time, she was scared that there might be no saving for her.The man showed them to their room, and her breath ceased when he left them alone. The room was extremely large and luxuriously furnished. Anna’s eyes fell back to him, her back nearly colliding with the door frame. He had taken off his jacket, leaving him with a white inner shirt, and now he busied himself with taking his wristwatch off.“Anna, come see this,” he raised his head up to stare at her, and Anna reluctantly pushed herself to stand next to him. He showed her the golden wristwatch which he had earlier worn. “It was purchased from the first goldsmith in Italy in 1971 by an ancestor from my father’s lineage,” he explained.Anna nodded. Although slightly interested, the only thing she wanted was to get the hell out of here. But if that was true, it meant the Vicenzo lineage

Chapter 30Anna’s eyes flew wide, her jaw nearly dropping in shock. Had she heard right? This man, who had been nothing but mean towards her since her arrival, was now saying he missed her? Good grief, what was going on here?Anna swallowed. He stared at her like he was expecting her to say something in return. Her mind clicked, and she cleared her throat. “I… I missed you too,” she stuttered, which was a white lie. She had totally forgotten about his existence—not when she was underneath his brother.Anna felt cold, conflicted, and shocked—shocked that Domenico was suddenly coming back to tell her that he missed her.“We’ll be going somewhere alone tomorrow night,” he said coolly. Her shoulders turned stiff.Domenico finally walked away, and Anna still felt this overwhelming cold overcome her. She was scared—too scared. Her eyes fell on Leone, who was still conversing with the Don, and she quickly turned to head back up the stairs.………..Anna paced nervously in her room, her hands cl

Chapter 29Her brows knotted as the ray of sun came to fall on her face. Her eyes flew open, and her hand flew to cover her eyes from the sun. She slowly sat up on the bed, her eyes taking in her surroundings. She was in her room—on her bed.Was everything that happened a dream? Oh, she wished it was, but the shirt which she was wearing now told her otherwise. A black T-shirt which looked more like a gown on her body, and it was heavy with his scent, his cologne. What had she done? How could she let everything happen when she knew too well how things were at the moment? She liked Rocco. What was she saying? She loved him, with all her heart. So why? Why could she do that? This was wrong. If they found out—Domenico and the Don—they might have her killed or worse. How could she be so careless? She felt this guilt weigh on her heart. She shouldn’t have gone to his mansion, she shouldn’t have been worried about him. Then all of this could’ve been avoided.Anna ran her hand through he

Chapter 28Anna’s eyes flew wide in shock. It felt like time paused at that moment as she watched him rip her nightie off with his manly strength. He covered her completely. She felt so small underneath him, underneath those wild gray orbs. He was the only thing she could see, feel, and even smell. His cologne wrapped her completely as she stared in a daze.Yes, it was all her fault. She told him to back off, but she had come here on her own. She hadn’t thought things through. She had been worried after seeing his wound, but she hadn’t foreseen the outcome. She hadn’t seen this coming at all.She saw a great amount of hunger in those orbs, and it felt like she had willingly sacrificed herself to him.His eyes latched on her now-exposed breasts, and she raised her trembling hands to his shoulder—a flimsy attempt to push him away—but it all ended with both her hands being pinned above her head. His nose trailed down the valley of her breasts. His warm breath made her toes curl. No, this

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 27: Be A Good Girl

Chapter 27Anna stood at her balcony, a glass of juice in her hand, which she drank from. The wind blew her hair, making it fall on her face, but she slowly tucked it behind her ear.Chiara had retired to her room for the night, giving her enough space for the words she had said to sink in. She had seen him that night, the way he had leisurely said it like it had nothing to do with her. Her heart raced, her cheeks burned. Anna gulped down the remaining content in the glass as her mind recalled the night of the Omerta ball.Acting crazy was his thing, but that night, it had been entirely different. He had been… possessive, like he owned her—owned her body. He had been raspy, like he had lost all patience with her. She hadn’t been aware of what she did, what warranted such behavior from him—well, aside from witnessing him committing an all-out murder, showing up in his tub naked, and trespassing that night when she should have been asleep—but her guts told her it wasn’t because of tha
