Chapter 7

Anna screamed as the bullet flew past her and rammed into the wall. Her heart raced as she slowly looked up to stare at him, but he wasn’t there anymore.

She quickly rushed out of the tub, goosebumps evident on her skin. Her breathing was labored as she picked her nightdress from the floor. He wasn’t in the room—had he left? She didn’t know. She wished he did!

She tried wearing it back as quickly as she could but only ended up fumbling with the dress due to her trembling hands.

She admits it was her fault—she had gotten drunk and landed herself in this embarrassing predicament. But that didn’t admonish the fact that he was a pervert for standing there, watching her while she was naked and even shooting a bullet at her, which he had missed by sheer luck. She thanked her lucky stars for that.

She successfully wore her clothes, her hair dripping down, her gown wet—but at least it was with water and not blood. She rushed to the door, attempting several times to unlock it, but her heart was too much of a mess to do it right.

Fortunately, she unlocked it and quickly bolted out of the room—not looking back, not even once. She ran to her room, and for extra precaution, she locked the doors. She changed her wet clothes into dry ones and got into her bed, but her heart refused to calm down—like he was going to burst in through her window.

Thunder rumbled loudly in the sky, making Anna jolt in shock. How was she going to face him now? To look him in the eye? She had barely escaped his grasp. He had barely let her go for what she had witnessed, and now this. Damn! He had seen her stark naked and gunned her—almost, at least.

Her cheeks flushed red. She buried herself in the duvet. Sleep felt like an impossible task, and she only managed to get some sleep when the sun came out.

Unfortunately for her, the annoying butler began knocking on her door nonstop. Anna was a shivering mess. Her eyes felt heavy—too heavy—and she felt extremely cold.

She was too weak to get the door. Her head throbbed painfully. Her eyes stung, her face pale, and the cold… she was too cold. Even the thick covers did nothing to help. She shivered. Her body felt heavy—too heavy that she couldn’t even move. Tears slipped out of her eyes. This wasn’t the time to fall sick.

Philomena wasn’t here. No one here cared about her existence. She’d die here and no one would care. Now, not only did she have to worry about having sex with Domenico, she also had to worry about Leone seeing her stark naked in his bathroom. What if he tells the Don and Domenico? They’ll kill her for sure.

Her throat felt so dry, and another tear slipped out of her eyes. Her eyelids felt too heavy to keep open, and slowly, she fell unconscious.

...................

Domenico, who had been passing by in the hallway while humming a melodious tune, suddenly halted when he heard the butler consistently knocking on Anna’s room door.

It was safe to say that he cared little to nothing about the human. He didn’t care what happened to her. The marriage was nothing less than a sacrifice on his end. But curiosity got the best of him, and he walked over to the butler.

“What’s with the consistent knocking?” he questioned.

The butler bowed on seeing him. “I’ve been trying to get Miss Anna out of her room, but she locked it and she’s not responding either.”

Domenico’s jaw ticked. Worst case scenario was she was dead, which was actually a best case scenario for him. Nothing was ruining his joyful mood this morning—not even the rat his father had dragged out of Lorenzo Empire.

Thankfully, the Don was out on a trip, and Domenico saw no reason to waste his time here while there were other things more worthwhile for him to attend to. Without another word, he walked away from there.

Worry marred the butler’s forehead—not because he cared about the girl (he barely knew her), but because he had personally led her to the cellar and handed her the bottle of bourbon. What if she had taken something she wasn’t supposed to take? The Don would trace it back to him and have his head separated from his body.

There was only one person he knew who could help now—but would Lord Leone care? His head began throbbing. He had heard Leone was in a terribly foul mood the previous night. The last thing he wanted was his head wrung and his body limp, but did he have a choice now?

The butler gulped, dragging his feet away from Anna’s door and making his way to Leone’s chambers. His hand was trembling as he rapped on his room door—not once but thrice—since he had gotten no response.

Seeing this as a sign today wasn’t his death day, he quickly turned to leave when he heard a loud click. Cold sweat rolled down his back, and he turned to see him standing in front of him, staring down at him like he intended to set him ablaze.

The butler quickly bowed. “G… good morning, boss,” he stuttered, his eyes remaining fixed on his black pair of shoes.

“You’d better have a good reason for annoying me so early in the morning, Charles,” Leone’s lazy eyes fell on him.

The butler trembled underneath his gaze, slowly raising his head to find his predatory gray eyes staring down at him.

He gulped. “It’s Miss Anna, sir. I have been knocking for hours, but she refused to open up.”

A minute passed, and Leone didn’t utter a word—putting the butler at breaking point. Then, he suddenly let out a chuckle before slamming the door in his face.

The butler felt even more perplexed, but with no other option, he left the hallway to continue with his work. After all, it was she who had asked for the alcohol herself, and he had just been following orders.

He tried using both his hands to free himself from Leone’s grip, but his attempts were futile, and it seemed like this time around Leone was really intent on killing him. Tears spilled from his eyes as he battled for his life.“Leone,” the Don called, and Leone rolled his eyes before letting go of Domenico’s neck. Domenico gasped for breath, his eyes dilating as his lungs struggled to collect the air.“Anything but that, Leone. You know that,” Enzo said, his tone grave.“No one touches what is mine. You know that, Don,” Leone’s jaw ticked as he stared at his father, who was ready to pull all strings to ensure he didn’t lose his son.It was shameful that Domenico, the future Don of this empire, now had his life in the hands of his younger brother. He didn’t want anyone witnessing this.Enzo took a sharp breath in. “Anything else but that,” his tone sharp and clear, his eyes unwavering. He walked away from

Chapter 35Enzo stood at a far corner, with a grim expression on his face, his lips pressed into a thin line. He watched Domenico and his men carry out their work. He already knew how this was going to end, and the thought of it all made him shake his head.Yes, it was true that Diego had been his consigliere, and the least he owed him for his dedication to the empire was a decent burial, but what he also didn’t need was any of his sons going 6 feet under the ground. His memory jogged back to the conversation he had with Leone:“Dig around my tree, huh?” Leone chuckled, something that left him a bit starstruck because everyone knew how much he cherished that tree—the only standing memory he had left of his late mother because she planted the tree herself.“Alright then.” Leone’s eyes remained a wild shade of gray.Enzo knew neither of his sons were normal, but this one—Leone—his was on an entirely different level.“So you are okay with digging around the tree, to clear your name from

Chapter 34Anna’s eyes remained wide. For a moment, it felt like time had paused between them as she tried to process the words he just said.He wasn’t being his usual irksome self. His gray eyes were calm and held a kind of warmth she had never seen in them since she knew him, but yet she couldn’t completely trust him. Why? Just why was he suddenly telling her he liked her? When he knew too well that she was going to get married to Domenico. Aside from that, she had no feelings for this man. She liked Rocco. Even if she had let him touch her that night, that didn’t mean anything, right? That didn’t mean she wanted any of this.“I don’t have feelings for you.” The only feeling she had felt towards him up until now was immense hatred. That was it.“I didn’t say that ’cause I give two fucks about what you feel.” She felt his grip on her waist tighten. “I said that as an answer to your question.” He flashed her an insincere smile.Anna blinked twice as she stared at him, and then he let

Chapter 33Domenico’s eyes flew wide. He wasn’t stupid enough to miss the hidden meaning behind his words. He gritted his teeth, his fist clenched. A second later, Domenico lunged towards Leone, grabbing the collar of his shirt. He dragged him up and slammed his back on the wall.“I’ll kill you,” he gritted. “Your heart will rest in my hands.” His body shook fervently as he boiled with rage, while Leone, on the other hand, appeared calm—like he was an angel from heaven. But everyone knew he was the master puppeteer of the devil in hell. “Too much anger makes people shorter,” Leone raised his hand to pat Domenico’s head, which flared his anger even more.He raised his hand to throw a punch at him, but Leone, being taller and far stronger, easily caught it, twisted his hand behind him, and slammed his face on the wall. Domenico grunted in pain. Not just his hand but he felt like his ego was twisted also. His jaw hardened, and he skillfully reached for a dagger in his pocket, but Leone

Chapter 32Her eyes flew wide, his action accentuated by the crackling sound in the burning fireplace. Her lips parted repeatedly, tongue-tied and speechless at what he had just done. She rubbed her now bare neck, which hadn’t been hurt when he tugged the necklace off, as he had done it with so much precision.“You—” she tore her eyes away from the fireplace, now glaring at him, who was already looking down at her. “You had no right to do that.” She took a sharp breath in, trying to build back her resolve, which always seemed to crumble anytime she was with him.“Hmm? Don’t I?” He chuckled, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.Anna was perplexed. What was she going to say once Domenico asked her for the necklace he had given her? What if he hit her—or worse—when she couldn’t provide it?She balled her fists as a tear slipped out of her eyes. She hit his chest repeatedly. “What the hell is your problem, Leone?” Her voice broke at the end.She bit her lip hard, staring back at him

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 31: Burning Fireplace

Chapter 31She gulped saliva down her dry throat. How the hell was she going to get out of this now? The last time, Leone had saved her, but this time, she was scared that there might be no saving for her.The man showed them to their room, and her breath ceased when he left them alone. The room was extremely large and luxuriously furnished. Anna’s eyes fell back to him, her back nearly colliding with the door frame. He had taken off his jacket, leaving him with a white inner shirt, and now he busied himself with taking his wristwatch off.“Anna, come see this,” he raised his head up to stare at her, and Anna reluctantly pushed herself to stand next to him. He showed her the golden wristwatch which he had earlier worn. “It was purchased from the first goldsmith in Italy in 1971 by an ancestor from my father’s lineage,” he explained.Anna nodded. Although slightly interested, the only thing she wanted was to get the hell out of here. But if that was true, it meant the Vicenzo lineage
