Chapter 3

Auteur: Zoe bear
Lilith’s lips curled into a smug smile, her golden eyes gleaming with challenge.

“What’s the matter, Nyra? Keeping an eye on me now?”

“Maybe you should just chain Alpha Talon to your side if you’re so worried about him.”

“Tell me, how does it feel to be the Luna of Alpha Talon? Living in someone else’s shadow, watching me take everything that was once yours?”

“You’ll never win against me. No matter how hard you try.”

Her laughter rang out, sharp and mocking. Around her neck, the necklace gleamed under the lights, its brilliance searing into my vision like a blade to my soul.

Lilith and I had once been inseparable—at least, I had believed so. We had dreamed of conquering the world of architecture together, our bond unshakable. But then, Alpha Lucien, my fated mate—severed our bond, choosing Lilith as his Luna and shattering my world in one brutal moment.

To be betrayed by my closest friend and my destined mate—there was no deeper agony.

For a time, I thought the darkness would consume me. Until Alpha Talon, Alpha of the rival Nightwarden Pack, entered my life. He offered me a way out, a promise of something greater.

In the beginning, everything felt safe, secure. But then came the moment that changed everything. Just as I was preparing for a prestigious international Pack competition, Alpha Talon uttered the words that would define my downfall:

“Nyra, you don’t need to fight for dominance or carry the weight of our Pack. Just be my Luna. I will protect you. Your family will be safe. You’ll never have to struggle again.”

His words burrowed deep into my wounded soul, and in a moment of weakness, I let go of the life I had built. I sold my architectural firm. I abandoned the competition without a second thought.

And who stood victorious in my place, basking in the limelight? Lilith.

My so-called best friend ascended, her name celebrated in thecircles of the architectural world, while I faded into obscurity, reduced to nothing more than Mrs. Mournvale—Alpha Talon’s Luna in name alone.

But now, as I stood in the center of it, something felt off. The towering structure before me was familiar—too familiar. My gaze traced the lines, the symmetry, the core design principles embedded in every detail. My breath hitched.

This was my design.

The one I had abandoned years ago. The one I had left buried deep in my personal files, never to be touched again.

And yet, here it stood, a living, breathing monument to my stolen dreams.

My pulse pounded in my ears. How had this happened? How had Lilith—

“Nyra!”

Lilith’s sudden shriek shattered my spiraling thoughts.

She stumbled backward, her hands clutching her stomach. A strangled gasp tore from her throat as she crumpled to the ground, her face twisted in pain.

Gasps rippled through the gathered crowd.

“Someone call an PackDoctor!”

“She’s fallen! Get help!”

All eyes snapped to me, suspicion and accusation burning in their gazes. And then—I saw him.

My Alpha.

He descended from the Pack’s high platform, his movements swift, urgent. My breath caught as he neared. For one fleeting second, I thought he was coming for me.

But instead—

He shoved me aside.

Not roughly. But with enough force to make his priorities painfully clear.

“Alpha Talon—”

“Lilith.”

Her name left his lips like a vow as he crouched before her, his hands hovering protectively over her trembling form. His voice, usually so commanding, softened with unmistakable concern.

“Are you alright?”

The Pack Doctor arrived moments later, but my world had already frozen in place.

Alpha Talon lifted Lilith onto the stretcher, his presence shielding her from the crowd. Then, finally, he turned to me—his gaze now dark with barely contained fury.

“I know you have history with her, but pushing her like that?” His voice was low, seething. “Didn’t you know she’s carrying Alpha Lucien’s pup?”

A sharp, cruel silence settled between us.

My hands trembled at my sides, my nails digging into my palms. His words were a slap to the face, each syllable another dagger to my chest.

I swallowed hard, forcing my voice to remain steady. “Why does this mall look exactly like the design I left on my computer?”

Alpha Talon’s expression barely flickered. “What?”

“The architectural plans,” I pressed. “I never showed them to anyone. And yet, somehow, Lilith—”

His jaw tightened. “Nyra, you’re being paranoid. Architectural designs overlap all the time. It’s just a coincidence.”

A coincidence?

The bitter taste of betrayal curled at the back of my throat.

There were only two people who had access to my private files at home. One was our Pack’s nanny. The other—

Was him.

Sensing the shift in my aura, Alpha Talon exhaled sharply. His stance softened, his fingers reaching for mine.

“Please, Nyra.” His voice was quieter now, almost pleading. “I didn’t mean to snap at you. I’m just—frustrated. This situation could put our alliances with the Ebonhart and Nightwarden Packs at risk.”

He sighed. “Lilith is still our lead designer. I don’t want you making trouble for her.”

Making trouble? For her?

I bit the inside of my cheek, reeling from the sheer audacity of his words.

But then Alpha Talon did what he always did—he shifted gears, softened the blow.

His grip on my hand tightened slightly, his voice dropping to something more intimate.

“Let’s have lunch together at noon,” he murmured. “I’ll have Eulalia set something up. I’ll join you after I finish handling things here.”

I stared at him.

At the man who had promised me protection.

At the man who might have stolen everything from me.

And for the first time, I wondered—had I truly escaped the darkness?

Or had I merely traded one cage for another?

Alpha Fenrir grasped my hand firmly, his golden eyes reflecting the dim moonlight. “Nyra, every bond serves a purpose,” he murmured, his voice deep and reassuring.“Just because a connection wasn’t meant to last doesn’t mean you were at fault. It only means you and your former mate weren’t truly destined.”“I’m willing to wait until you’re ready to let me into your world,” he added, his grip warm and steady.A sigh escaped me as I gently touched the side, where Lilith had struck him earlier. “This is all my doing,” I whispered regretfully. “I’ve dragged you into this, and you got hurt because of me.”Alpha Fenrir didn’t let me dwell on guilt. “None of this is on you,” he assured me. “If anyone’s to blame, it’s that crazed she-wolf, Lilith.”A small chuckle slipped from my lips, but the weight in my chest remained. “Fenrir, I just don’t think I can open my heart to another so soon…”He let out a soft laugh, the sound as calming as the rustling of leaves in the wind. “That’s okay,” he sa

“If you can find it in your heart to forgive me, I’ll do whatever it takes. Whether you dream of leading a new trade venture or curating an art sanctuary, I will never stand in your way again.”Lilith, sensing the disregard from those around her, let out a low snarl, her presence crackling with frustration as she snapped at Alpha Talon.“Alpha Talon! How can you treat me like this? You used to chase after me endlessly—have your feelings truly disappeared?”“When I was bonded to Alpha Lucien, you mourned the entire night. When I bore his pup, you constructed an entire marketplace in my name. Have you erased all of that from your memory?”“Can’t you see? Nyra has already found the one destined for her!”Fenrir, his aura radiating unwavering authority, stepped forward and commanded, “Enough. Stop this spectacle, and don’t interfere in Nyra’ life again.”Alpha Talon’s gaze darkened with animosity as he turned toward Alpha Fenrir. “And who exactly do you think you are? "So now that Alpha Lucien and Alpha Talon have cast you aside, you think you can take it all out on me?"The instant the words left my lips, Lilith’s face contorted with rage."Nyra, you wretched thing! Why won’t you just disappear for good?!" she snarled, her voice dripping with venom."This is all your doing! You made me lose my pup, you destroyed my bond with Alpha Lucien, and now even Alpha Talon refuses to acknowledge me as his mate! I clearly gave Alpha Talon the hallucinogenic wolfbane, so why is he still leaving me? "Hallucinogenic wolfbane? So Alpha Talon was under her influence all along, manipulated by the drug to feel a certain way and do all those things that broke my heart. Her fury was palpable as she stormed forward, her wolf lurking just beneath the surface, ready to break free."You’re the one who exposed that recording, weren’t you? You faked your death just to set me up! You’re nothing but a schemer!"I met her glare with unsettling calm."Lilith, you knew from the

The ground-breaking ceremony for the Stonevale Pack Museum was nothing short of monumental. As the first shovel hit the earth, a swell of emotions surged within me—nostalgia, gratitude, and something deeper that I couldn’t yet name. My parents, gone too soon, had dreamed of this day, and I silently offered a prayer to the moon for their spirits.I turned, and there, as if summoned by the very power of the ceremony itself, stood Alpha Fenrir. His presence was magnetic—tall, rugged, his features as sharp as the mountains that towered over our lands. A small, knowing smile played on his lips, his eyes gleaming with something... more. His gaze sent a flutter through my chest, a reaction I couldn't quite control. That summer, I found myself at the construction site every day, unable to resist the pull of the place that was slowly becoming a testament to my parents’ legacy—and my own. Each day I spent among the workers, the sun kissed my skin, and my body grew stronger, more vibrant. Fenrir,

“Luna, I’ve just spoken to Alpha Talon. He’s been in a terrible state lately and insists on meeting you.”A bitter laugh escaped me. “Did you forget already? I’m dead to him. His troubles are no longer mine.”There was a long pause before the voice on the other end responded, its tone more urgent now. “Alpha Talon has spared no expense, hiring a private team to comb the entire sea area for over a month. His sister tried to talk some sense into him, but he wouldn’t listen. Then…”“He was eventually dragged back to the Pack by his Alpha father, against his will.”A wave of realization hit me—old Alpha, my former father-in-law, who had been undergoing cancer treatment in Stonevale Pack. This mess ran deeper than I had ever thought, unsettling the entire Mournvale Pack. Alpha Talon, their leader, was struggling to maintain control, and this chaos had shaken their financial foundations. It was no surprise they were desperate to reel in their errant Alpha.“I’m not interested in his problems

The clerk, visibly unnerved, hesitated, his eyes darting nervously between Lilith and Alpha Talon. “Sir, your Luna—” he stammered, “Your Luna specifically instructed that you should take your Mate’s selection in peace, without any disturbances.”Lilith’s lips curled into a smirk as she shot the clerk a cold, dismissive glance before turning her gaze back to Alpha Talon, the faintest trace of mock innocence in her expression. “Alpha Talon,” she purred, “I merely wished for a moment of solitude while I chose my gifts. Surely, you wouldn’t deny me that, would you?”This time, however, Alpha Talon’s usual restraint cracked. His eyes hardened, the flicker of something far darker and more dangerous than irritation flashing in them. Without a word, he turned sharply and stalked away, leaving her standing alone in the room.At this moment, Lilith panicked. For a long time, she had been secretly administering a hallucinogenic wolfbane to Alpha Talon, making him completely obedient to her. There

"I’ll take care of the matters with the Ebonhart and Nightwarden Packs." Alpha Talon’s voice was low, but his words were a promise, the weight of his power behind them.I nodded, a flicker of respect rising within me. His willingness to go to such lengths for Lilith—especially within the treacherous, ever-shifting world of Pack politics—was something I hadn’t expected. It was more than loyalty; it was a fierce, protective instinct that went beyond duty.Stepping onto the top floor of the Hotel, the city sprawling before me, I felt the cool rush of the wind. My phone buzzed, pulling me out of my thoughts. Alpha Talon had sent a few messages.[The Nightwarden Pack has confirmed Lilith is safe. The Ebonhart Pack assured us they won’t take any further action.]I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding and gazed out the window, watching the sunlight glint off the buildings as it began to fade. I typed back without much thought.[That’s a relief.]Just as I was about to lock my p

This was unheard of. His drawer was always securely locked—until today.A strange pull guided my hand as I slid it open, my heartbeat pounding in my ears. It shouldn’t have budged, but it did.Inside, stacks of architectural blueprints lay meticulously arranged, each one marked with a name that sent a shiver down my spine—Ebonhart. Ebonhart Mall. Ebonhart Residences. Ebonhart Jewelry. Every structure, every expansion Alpha Talon had planned was tied to one name.Lilith Ebonhart, the she-wolf who stole my mate, Alpha Lucien Nightwarden. The realization hit me like a silver blade to the chest. I had been part of the Architecture Department for years, yet Alpha Talon had always assured me he had his own team handling high-profile projects. I never questioned it. Now, it was clear—every brick, every foundation, every luxury boutique was a shrine to the she-wolf.My fingers trembled as I reached for the small jewelry box nestled between the documents. My breath hitched when I flipped it ope
