Chapter 2

Author: Perfect Timing
Aubrie stared at me in shock. "Gabriel, divorce isn't something you joke about. If Catherine did something wrong, tell me. We'll talk some sense into her. Asking for a divorce out of the blue is hurtful. You can't toss that word around."

I frowned and set down my cutlery. "It's nothing dramatic. I just don't love her anymore, and I don't want to waste time. Don't bother trying to talk me out of it. I'm done with this marriage. I can't stand even a minute more of this."

Catherine's throat tightened. Her eyes were red as she looked at me. "Honey, what did I do wrong? Tell me. I don't believe you don't love me. Just tell me, and I'll change. If you don't want me spending your money, I swear… I swear I won't touch a single cent of yours again."

The moment Aubrie heard it was about money, her expression soured.

Daxton hurried over and pulled me aside. He said, "Aubrie, Jordan, don't get upset. There are some things he can't say in front of you. Let me talk to him."

Once we entered his bedroom, he locked the door and looked at me with concern. "Alright, Gabriel, what's going on? Tell me whatever's hard to say. I know you're not the type to act out like this. Something must be wrong."

My relationship with Daxton was typical. It was nothing more than the usual, perfectly normal dynamic between brothers-in-law.

I knew he had lost his wife early in life, never remarried, and had been living with Aubrie and Jordan ever since. So whenever I traveled, worked out, or needed company, I would invite him along to unwind.

I was debating whether to tell him the truth, but then I accidentally noticed something on the chair next to the balcony. A small device that looked like a cup.

Inside it was a used condom, still smeared with cloudy residue.

Daxton followed my gaze, and his face instantly flushed. He rushed to hide the thing in the nightstand.

In his panic, he knocked over the contents of the drawer. A nearly full box of brand-new condoms rolled to my feet.

He snatched it up quickly. "Please don't misunderstand. You know… Mildred passed early. All these years, I still can't forget her. I don't plan on finding someone new, but physically… a man still has needs.

"I just worry about hygiene and getting sick, so I bought some better-quality ones. Please don't tell Aubrie and Jordan. I don't want them thinking I'm being improper."

I glanced at his embarrassed expression, and the words I meant to say caught in my throat.

"I get it. Go on."

He patted my shoulder. "No, you haven't told me anything yet. Why bring up a divorce? What can't be fixed?"

I gave him a brief look. "There's nothing to fix. I just can't do this anymore."

Outside the door, we could hear Aubrie sobbing. "How did our family end up with someone this selfish? He wants a divorce over the cost of some supplements."

She tearfully said, "We've treated you well all these years. You said you wanted to focus on your career, and we didn't complain once about having no grandchildren after five years of marriage.

"You're gone on business trips for half a month at a time, and everything in the house and everything involving both families has always fallen on Catherine's shoulders. She's handled it all for years, and not once has she complained.

"Every month, she gives you her whole paycheck and bonus. And instead of caring about her health, you want to divorce her over some supplements? What kind of heartless husband are you?"

Beside her, Catherine couldn't hold back her tears. She bit her lip and suddenly dropped to her knees in front of me. "I'm sorry, honey. Is it because the heart supplements were expensive? Are you worried my health will get worse and burden you later, so you want a divorce?

"Please don't. I'll take care of myself, I'll work hard. I won't drag you down. Please, I'm begging you. Don't divorce me."

Tears streamed down her face as she held my hand tightly, bowing her head in a desperate plea.

Daxton looked shocked. "Gabriel, you're divorcing her because of that? She's your wife. You don't care about her health, and now you even see her as a burden?"

Catherine covered her face, sobbing uncontrollably. As soon as the words left my mouth, she snapped. She lunged at Daxton as if she had completely lost it, slammed him to the ground, climbed on top of him, and strangled him."You filthy bastard! Why did you stir things up? Why? Why? This is all your fault! You're the reason Gabriel is divorcing me! It's you! Everything happened because of you!"And just like that, the chaos finally burned itself out.I looked at the stunned crowd and let out a faint laugh. "Thanks to all of you. Otherwise, I never would have known just how 'devoted' you all thought Catherine was."At least now you see the truth. When a woman cheats, guilt always hits the deepest."Watching them lower their heads in shame, I finally felt the tension ease a little."We're sorry, Gabriel. We were too impulsive. We were fooled by them."One after another, they all apologized.I lifted a hand dismissively and said, "There's nothing to apologize for. She fooled all

Aubrie staggered back, shaking her head over and over, insisting it was impossible. However, once they grabbed my phone and saw the video of the two of them naked on the couch, tangled together, no one could deny it.Jordan was so shocked by the graphic scene that he clutched his chest and collapsed to the floor.Catherine snapped back to reality and rushed toward him."Dad! Dad, don't scare me!"Jordan stared at her with wide, bloodshot eyes and shoved her away with all his strength. "I don't have a daughter who violates basic morals. Get out!"Aubrie slapped Daxton across the face so hard the sound echoed. She yelled, "You filthy bastard! Mildred treated you so well. Our whole family treated you well! How dare you seduce Catherine? You destroyed this family!"I told you to remarry! We were willing to pay for the wedding! You claimed you only had Mildred in your heart, but you went after Catherine behind our backs? You shameless dog! I'll kill you!"Daxton dropped to his knee

Everyone froze.A flicker of panic finally appeared in Catherine's eyes.Aubrie glared at me. "What do you mean by that? Catherine is already falling apart, and you still want to humiliate her?"At this point, there was nothing left for me to hide. "It's your family that humiliated me."Someone scoffed and started a livestream right in front of everyone."I've never seen a man with so little shame. Everyone, come and get a good look at just how disgusting he really is!"I shrugged with a smile. "Sure. Let's see who's the disgusting one."Aubrie looked confused.I slowly held everything in my hands up to the camera."Watch carefully. I originally wanted to handle this privately, but since some people refuse to show any integrity, I'll give you all a clear picture."This is the lab test I pulled out of Aubrie's trash bag at noon. It shows traces of two people on a used condom. The two people are my wife, Catherine, and her brother-in-law, Daxton."Take a good look at this phot

Catherine's coworker flared up, lifting his hand as if to hit me."Did I say anything wrong? You're just like some horny escort who can't keep it in his pants!"Catherine's eyes were red as she shoved him away. Her voice came out sharp and furious. "Shut up! Don't talk about Gabriel like that! He's not that kind of person!"Her coworker kicked the wall in anger. "I've never seen someone as blinded by love as you! You're begging to be destroyed by him!"Hearing that, Aubrie and Jordan became even more convinced that this marriage needed to end.Aubrie grabbed Catherine's hand, eyes brimming with tears. "Catherine, open your eyes. This man is no longer who he used to be. Who knows how many times he's cheated on you already? Why cling to someone who's already so far gone?"Jordan snorted and shot me a disdainful look. "A man like that isn't worth a single tear from you. So what if he's gone? We'll find you someone else who is a thousand times better than him!"However, Catherine w

My stomach dropped when I saw the shock on Dad's face. I hurried to snatch the crumpled agreement from his hands and tucked the scattered pages back inside.Everyone stared at us, completely confused by our silent standoff. However, someone caught on quickly. One of her coworkers scoffed and reached for the papers in my hand. "What are you hiding? Is there something you don't want anyone to see?"I shoved him away. "Mind your own business! Get lost!"That set the whole group off."Quit pretending. Anyone can see you're hiding something. Tell me the truth! Are you cheating on her? Is that why you suddenly want a divorce?""Look at how guilty he is! If he had nothing to hide, he wouldn't be covering it like that. Catherine, he definitely cheated on you!""Exactly! He found some excuse to dump you before you found out. And you actually believed his pathetic reason and cried yourself sick!""Of course he cheated! Why else would his dad look like that? He's embarrassed! He knows hi

When Catherine saw the signed divorce papers, her whole body began to shake. The monitor beside her started blaring alarms as her vitals spiked. The doctor tried to examine her, but she pushed him away. Her eyes were bloodshot as she clutched her chest. "Honey, I promise I won't use your money anymore. I'll hand over everything I earn, okay?"I didn't show even the slightest reaction. "No. I just want a divorce!"Aubrie, who had been holding herself back, finally exploded. She stepped forward and slapped me hard."How can you be so heartless? Catherine ended up in the hospital because of you, and since you walked in, you didn't even ask about her condition. All you want is a divorce. Is your heart made of stone?"I touched the fresh handprint on my cheek. "I have no obligation to take care of her."Daxton, seeing that I was unmoved, hurried to support the staggering Aubrie. "Gabriel, what is wrong with you? At least make it clear—why are you divorcing Catherine? I refuse to beli
