Chapter 7: Chapter Seven: I Am Getting a Divorce from Gu Yecheng

Since her mother's passing, Rebecca Augustine had not returned to the Han family for a long time. She could never forget the scene when her father, along with his mistress and their illegitimate daughter, showed up at the door while her mother was gravely ill. This incident also made it impossible for her to ever trust marriage, or to entrust herself to any man. Leonard Babbitt, however, was an exception.

Rebecca Augustine and Leonard Babbitt were already engaged, a decision made by their grandparents, but neither of them took it seriously. Back then, after falling out with her father, she left home with her ailing mother, intending to break off the engagement with Leonard Babbitt. Unexpectedly, he came to find her first, presenting her with a marriage agreement that would make her a puppet, holding the position of Mrs. Gu. Initially, Rebecca Augustine no longer had any attachment to the Han or Gu families, nor did she wish to get involved in the messy entanglements between Leonard Babbitt and Stacey Grantham. However, seeing her mother suffering from illness and the hardships they faced after leaving the Han family, she ultimately agreed.

Leonard Babbitt needed someone to hold the position of Mrs. Gu.

And she, needed money.

Unfortunately, her mother eventually passed away, just like her sham marriage, which lasted three years before coming to an end.

"Mr. Babbitt, we only wanted Rebecca Augustine to come back for a family gathering, we didn't expect you to come as well."

Seeing Leonard Babbitt, Horace Augustine became so nervous and awkward that he seemed more like a subordinate under scrutiny than a father-in-law. He rubbed his hands together and shot an annoyed glance at Rebecca Augustine, "You too, how can you take up Mr. Babbitt's time when he is so busy?"

Rebecca Augustine rolled her eyes and asked indifferently, "Is there something you need?"

Seeing Rebecca Augustine standing beside Leonard Babbitt, looking cold and distant, Horace Augustine felt a surge of anger. Just as he was about to lash out, Megan Geordie pulled him aside, "Rebecca rarely comes back, let's treat this as a family reunion."

Leonard Babbitt smiled, putting on a good son-in-law act, "Father-in-law, please don't be so formal. Rebecca Augustine is feeling unwell today, and I didn't feel comfortable letting her come alone, so I accompanied her. We are family, no need for such formality."

Rebecca Augustine stood to the side, giving him a sidelong glance, her disdain evident in her expression.

She followed Horace Augustine into the villa, and from a distance, she saw many old items displayed at the entrance. Seeing those items, Rebecca Augustine frowned—

Her mother's collection of famous paintings and antiques, even the clothes her mother wore, were all brought out.

Rebecca Augustine asked displeased, "Why are you touching my mother's belongings?"

Horace Augustine and Megan Geordie exchanged glances, both avoiding eye contact. Finally, Megan Geordie stepped forward, trying to take Rebecca Augustine's hand, "Rebecca, the thing is, your father's company has been having some financial troubles recently, and we had no choice... We had to auction these items to raise some emergency funds."

Rebecca Augustine sneered, "Does the Han family have nothing else to sell? You have to touch my mother's belongings?"

Horace Augustine grew impatient, shouting, "Isn't it because you’re useless? After being with Mr. Babbitt for so many years, you haven't done anything for the family. What's the point of keeping a dead person's things? If you don't want to sell your mother's belongings, then..."

He glanced at Leonard Babbitt, somewhat apprehensive, but still said, "If you can find a way to secure another two billion in investment for me, you can take all these things away."

Rebecca Augustine laughed in anger, instantly understanding why Horace Augustine had called her back today. She curled her lips in a cold smile, "Two billion? Have you gone mad? Didn't you just borrow five billion from Leonard Babbitt?"

"And..."

Rebecca Augustine paused, dropping the bomb, "I'm getting a divorce from Leonard Babbitt."
