Chapter 8: Chapter Eight: The Hypocritical Han Family

Horace Augustine was nothing but a spendthrift, completely lacking in business acumen and intelligence. Back when his mother was still alive, she could offer some assistance, but after her passing, with Megan Geordie bringing her illegitimate daughter into the household, the Han family made one mistake after another in their business ventures. It could be said that if not for Leonard Babbitt's financial support, the Augustine Group would have long gone bankrupt.

Upon hearing the news that Rebecca Augustine intended to divorce Leonard Babbitt, Horace Augustine froze on the spot. If Rebecca Augustine truly divorced Leonard Babbitt, wouldn't he lose this pillar of support? Moreover, all the money he had borrowed from Leonard Babbitt over the years, would he now have to repay it all?

"When I left the Han family, I made it clear that I was no longer part of it. The money you borrowed is your responsibility to repay. Whatever Leonard Babbitt decides to do, whether it's to beat or kill, that's between you and him. It has nothing to do with me."

With those words, she turned to leave, but a cloyingly sweet voice stopped her in her tracks.

"Sister."

Charlotte Augustine, dressed in a snowy white dress, emerged from the villa, looking timid.

"Mom and Dad invited you back today so we could have a family reunion. Why must you speak so harshly?" She cast a coy glance at Leonard Babbitt, biting her lip, her cheeks flushing with feigned shyness, before continuing softly, "Without our Han family, how could you have possibly married Mr. Babbitt? He treats you so well, how can you bear to divorce him?"

Seeing Charlotte Augustine, Rebecca Augustine found it even more amusing. During these years of being married to Leonard Babbitt, she had seen firsthand how Charlotte Augustine behaved in front of him. If not for her engagement to Leonard Babbitt, Charlotte Augustine would have done anything to become Mrs. Gu herself. Who was she trying to fool with this act?

Rebecca Augustine's face hardened, "You'd better get it straight, who exactly is your family? Your parents are not mine."

"My mother had only one daughter, so your calling me 'sister'..."

Rebecca Augustine narrowed her eyes, "I find it disgusting."

"You...!"

Charlotte Augustine's expression changed, and she walked towards Leonard Babbitt, putting on a pitiful look, "Brother-in-law, I just think it's too much for Sister to suddenly want to divorce you. "It's my fault. Today, I upset Rebecca Augustine, which is why she's threatening to divorce me in anger."

He walked over to Rebecca Augustine, deliberately wrapping his arm around her waist, playing the role of the 'good husband,' and sincerely apologized, "I'm sorry, dear. Please don't be angry anymore. I promise I won't upset you again. You come first, always."
