Chapter 9: Chapter Nine: The Han Family, a Festering Sore

"Leonard Babbitt, are you crazy? Let me go!"

At the entrance of the Han family's villa, Rebecca Augustine was struggling as Leonard Babbitt dragged her toward a car by the roadside.

She was shoved into the car and tried to shake off Leonard Babbitt's hand, attempting to slip out through the gap in the door, but Leonard Babbitt quickly slipped in beside her, blocking her path and confining her in the small space.

"Do you, Mrs. Gu, want to see your mother's belongings, even her private items, put up for auction?"

Leonard Babbitt had an inherent air of regal authority.

Even when he spoke lazily and slowly, his words carried an undeniable force.

Due to their close proximity, Rebecca Augustine could smell the fresh, yet overpowering, scent on him.

"I can offer another two hundred million, just to buy your mother's belongings, if Miss Han agrees to my conditions."

Rebecca Augustine frowned.

The reason Horace Augustine and Megan Geordie had brought her back, letting her see those belongings in the villa, was for this very purpose.

They wanted to force her to get money from Leonard Babbitt, or else watch helplessly as her mother's things were auctioned off.

But what could she do now?

Since marrying Leonard Babbitt, to maintain her position as Mrs. Gu, she hadn't worked and had no savings. Despite her glamorous appearance, she couldn't even come up with a few hundred thousand, let alone enough to buy her mother's things.

If she didn't agree to Leonard Babbitt's terms, would she really have to watch her mother's private items be put up for auction?

After some thought, Rebecca Augustine said, "I can agree to your conditions, but you must also agree to mine."

"First."

Her thoughts were precise and direct: "I won't allow my mother's belongings, especially her private items, to be auctioned. After you buy them from Horace Augustine, you can keep the antiques and paintings, but my mother's personal items should be handed over to me."

Leonard Babbitt responded indifferently, "Fine."

"Second."

Rebecca Augustine continued, "I want to amend our marriage agreement. Starting today, I will go out to work."

If she had a job, she wouldn't be in this predicament.

Leonard Babbitt could provide her with a glamorous life and a place in high society, but ultimately, one must rely on oneself.

Leonard Babbitt said casually, "Fine."

"Third."

Rebecca Augustine paused, then took a deep breath, "I want you to help me destroy the Augustine Group."

Hearing this condition, Leonard Babbitt raised an eyebrow.

He knew that Rebecca Augustine had a strained relationship with her family, but... it hadn't reached the point where she wanted to destroy them.

He asked, "Are you sure?"

Rebecca Augustine smiled bitterly, "Mr. Babbitt, if you had a festering sore on your body, what would you do?"

To her, the Han family was like that sore.

She had always tried to avoid conflict, but now it seemed that only made them more aggressive.

As long as the Han family existed, she would never be free. It would be better to cut them out entirely, to prevent future trouble.

Leonard Babbitt's expression remained unchanged as he replied, "If you are certain, it is not impossible."

"But I cannot directly involve myself in this matter. After all..."

His thin lips formed the words, "Framing my father-in-law would not look good externally."

Rebecca Augustine raised an eyebrow, inwardly scoffing at the man's concern for his reputation.

"Don't worry,"

Rebecca Augustine leaned back in the car seat, closing her eyes to rest, "I will handle it personally."
