Chapter 2
Andreas sat crossed legged on his grey coloured sofa tapping away furiously on the gamepad he was holding. Besides him was a tray of snacks and wrappers of empty ones littered all across his exquisitely furnished living room. His sharp brown eyes were focused solely on the TV screen as his athletic shoulder moved up and down inside the blue tank top he was wearing. Shouting loud curses at the screen when he missed an important pass. “Andreas. How stupid. You did it again, didn't you?” He muttered sadly to himself. The raw pain was evident in his voice. Then, he ended the game. Reaching for the remote control, he switched to a news channel and the voice of the reporter filled his spacious living room. ‘And on sports news,” the reporter began. “Andreas Martinez, the 24 year old striker for the Super Championship football club, was seen getting physical with another young man at the club yesterday. According to an eyewitness report…’ Andreas rolled his eyes as he groaned in frustration. “Come on. He attacked me first. I defended myself and I am the bad guy?” He asked rhetorically as he threw back against the couch. He shut up his eyes, taking everything in. Last season had been unfavourable for him. After the costly mistake of missing a game defining penalty at the Champion World cup finals, he had been tagged the most hated player of all time. Despite his efforts in trying to rectify the situation by becoming more social, it always backfired. Like what happened at the club last week. Of course the news tabloids didn't know the whole story but no one really wanted to know. It wasn't his fault that he punched the other guy. That night, he'd been in the club minding his business at the bar area, when he spotted his ex girlfriend,Tania, among the sea of fun seeker at the club. She was alone and moping on a bottle of beer which was unusual. Tania always has men flocking around her. She's always been like that since highschool. Seeing her reminded him of all the hurt and pain she'd caused him but it also reminded him of the good times. Andreas was determined not to let his feelings ruin the night so he decided to drown himself in alcohol. By the time he was drunk, he noticed Tania walking towards him. “Hey, handsome”. She cooed seductively, walking over the stand between his parted legs. “Long time no see.” She added. “So what's the soccer superstar, Andreas doing drinking alone in a club?” Tania asked, running her perfectly manicured hands over his face. Andreas looked up at her through blurry eyes. As his eyes met Tania’s all he could see was the bouncy haired, innocent school girl he'd fell in love with. But then he remembered how she betrayed him and his countenance changed. “What do you want Tania?” He asked, swatting away her hand from his chest and ignoring her questions. But instead of going away, she leaned in further, planting a soft kiss behind his ear lobe before whispering, “You!”. Before he could reply, her lips already landed on his. She kissed him forcefully, and he tried to push her away but his emotions got the better of him as he finds himself leaning into her and kissing her back while pulling her closer to himself. Andreas was lost in the moment and totally forgot where he was until he felt someone roughly pulled them apart. Before he could make sense of what was happening, a heavy blow landed on his cheek, forcing him to topple over from the bar stool he was sitting on. There were surprised gasp across the room as the music came to an abrupt end. As he tried to gather back his thoughts, he heard a guy yelling at him. “Don't ever touch me or my girl. You get that?” The guy grabbed Tania's arm as he led her away. But something wasn't right. As they were leaving, he noticed Tania triumphant smile, the guy also had a satisfied smirk playing on his lips. He signaled some other guys placed in strategic position who recorded everything that happened on their phone, as they made their way towards the clubs exit. That's when it dawned on him that the whole incident was orchestrated to ridicule him. Anger burned through his veins, dissipating every trace of alcohol in his system. With haste, he hurried after the guy, tearing his hand away from Tania's as he pushed him to the ground. He began to punch the guy repeatedly, ignoring the shouting and screams from every corner of the club. Andreas didn't care anymore. They wanted a scandal, he'd give them one. He felt Tania's arm on his shoulder tying to stop him, “Andreas, enough. you'll kill him”. But he was far beyond reason as he continued to deal brutal blows to the already bruised face of his victim. Until he felt strong arm pulled him away. “That's enough, Andreas. We need to leave now.” He heard the familiar voice. It was Martin his personal bodyguard. Andreas didn't remember bringing him along to the club. But if he knew Martin very well is that he did his job well. As Martin created a part for him in the crowd as they exited, Andreas felt shame and regret wash over him. He'll be all over the news again. It's really the end for him. Remembering the incident now, shame washed over him anew. He could have held himself back, now look at what happened. The news was everywhere. Which means his Coach had seen it too. And that ultimately meant he wouldn't be part of the line up for this next game that would be ushering them into the new football season. Andreas closed his eyes tighter, wincing as pain seered through his bruised eyes. as regret took over Just then, the doorbell rang, but he was reluctant to answer so he remained there, but the sound persisted. He was going to ignore again when a familiar voice filtered through the doorbells intercom. “Hey man! Are you in there? Come on, the party's already started. We're running late.” He heard Dante's voice over the intercom and from the background voice he heard, Dante wasn't alone. “Shit. Was that today?” He muttered under his breath as it dawned on him that he had totally forgotten the appointment he had with his new found companion Dante and his group of friends. They'd met a few weeks ago at a private bar across town. Dante and his friends were rich kids who had a lot of money to throw away and of course Andreas was popular, so he had no problem getting them to hang out with him. The only problem is, they're beginning to have a bad influence on him. Ever since he started rolling with them, he'd been on the news more often. Andreas knew that he disappointed all his fans and even his teammates. But that was the reason he was doing these things to get his mind off his failure. In his pursuit, he found Dante who was more than willing to offer him the companion he so desperately needed. But, in all the wrong ways. Jumping up from his couch, he walked towards the door as he pushed a button beside the wall and the door slid open revealing four guys holding up bottles of different drinks. Mostly alcohol. “Yo! Man. What's up? Why aren't you dressed up yet?” Dante asked, genuinely surprised. Andreas managed to snap out of his daze as he cleared his throat slightly. “Uh. So sorry guys. I got carried away with…you know, the game.” Andreas replied apologizing for his absent mindedness. Dante looked at him suspiciously for a moment before he finally gave up asking. “Alright, go change and let's go.” He said as he pushed past Andreas with the other boys following suit but not without exchanging pleasantries with Andreas. The guys already made themselves comfortable as Andreas got ready quickly and joined them. And they were on their way to the party. They arrived at the venue. The Night was alive with vibrant energy as the luxurious house transformed into a tropical oasis, hosting the most exquisite pool party of the summer. Youngsters in their teens and early twenties gathered around the crystal-clear waters, eager to let loose and make unforgettable memories. The girls stunned in their stylish swimwear, showcasing the latest trends. Bikinis in bold colors and playful patterns, high-waisted beach shorts and monokinis, glittery, neon-colored sunglasses and oversized hats also adorned their outfits. The guys kept it cool and casual. Some wore board shorts in vibrant hues, some with graphic t-shirts and tank tops, adorned with sunglasses, baseball caps and trucker hats. Andreas sported a black and neon-green board shorts combo. While Dante rocked a classic Hawaiian shirt, unbuttoned to reveal his swim trunks. There was a poolside bar offering an array of refreshing drinks and delicious eats. As the party unfolded, friends laughed, chatted, and splashed around in the pool. Few couples snuggled up on lounge chairs and there was also a spontaneous dance challenge across the party. The soundtrack was a dynamic mix of for the party was a mixture of Upbeat pop and electronic dance music, hip-hop and R&B classics and some tropical house and beachy vibes. The luxurious house's pool party was the epitome of summer bliss, filled with carefree joy, stunning style, and unforgettable memories. Yet Andreas felt left out. Ignoring the few whispers here and there, he decided to enjoy himself and put everything behind him. But that dream was short-lived when the party host showed up. “Hey! What's up Dante.” Nico's voice rang out and Andreas immediately turned, recognizing his voice. Dante smiled widely as he hugged Nico tightly. “Hello, brother.” He greeted him, patting his back. ‘Brother?’. Andrea's thought to himself. Dante was the brother to his teammate Nico? “Shit!” He cursed under his breath. He knew he shouldn't be here. If he knew he'd have steered clear of this party. As if on cue, Nico turned around and his eyes caught Andrea's. Nico's face immediately turned red with seething rage. “What the hell, Dante. What's he doing here?” He asked glaring dangerously at Andreas. Dante's look from Nico to Andreas was genuinely confused. “What do you mean, Nico? Are you guys not okay? I thought you guys were best buds.” “I can't be friends with a snitch!” Nico barked. Andreas had no choice but to respond. “Alright. That's enough. Dante thanks for inviting me, but I have to leave now. Enjoy your evening”. With that he turned to leave, ignoring Nico's jabs. “Yeah leave. You're not welcomed here.” Nico shouted after him as he stormed towards his car. As soon as he entered his car, shutting the door, he slammed his hands multiple times against his steering wheel in anger. “Damn it! Damn it!! Damn it!!!” He cursed out loudly. Everything was a mess. He thought. Nico had been his best friend on the team. But ever since their last catastrophic match, they'd become enemies. Somehow Nico believed he'd missed the penalty on purpose. Maybe so do the others and even the coach. This simply means he wouldn't be playing this season. After all, his contract with the club was going to expire soon and with the recent event, it will only take a miracle for the club to renew his contract. But he knew that would be impossible. It was time to face reality. His career in football is coming to an abrupt end. As he was about to start his car, his phone beeped. Thinking it was a message from his mom asking him where he was again, he picked up his phone to read the text when he saw that it was from his coach. The text read: “Training is at 10am tomorrow. It's important you show up. Don't be late.” Great! Andreas thought to himself. The video from this evening as he was being kicked out of Nico's party must have gone viral again. And coach Hernandez must have seen it. “Great! Just great!” Andreas muttered quietly as he backed off his car from the driveway.Chapter 3 “Mummy, we're back!” Mia was in her little garden watering her flowers when she heard Sofia's excited voice. She chuckled as she turned around, seeing her hopping towards her, with Susan trailing behind carrying some shopping bags as they entered the exquisite oasis. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the private country house of Mia, stood as a serene retreat from the chaos of fame. Designed with elegance and functionality, this haven catered to Mia's needs as a renowned artist and devoted mother to her five-year-old daughter, Sofia. The estate's façade exudes warmth, with natural stone and reclaimed wood accents blending harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. A winding driveway led to the main entrance, flanked by meticulously manicured gardens and a sparkling fountain. The roof's subtle pitch and earthy tones ensured the house blended seamlessly into its surroundings with a guest wing accommodating friends and family, complete with luxurious amenities. Outdoor Oasis
Chapter 4 Andreas arrived at the private airport in Spain in his jet, only to be hurled by tons of reporters. As his security personnel tried to shield him and navigate a part for him through the crowd, he was bombarded with lots of questions like. “Andreas do you think you'll be part of coach Hernandez’s lineup your first game?”, “Andreas, is coach Hernandez finally terminating your contract?” Or “Andreas, what can you say about the viral videos of you making rounds on social media?” All these questions only angered him. He wanted to respond but he knew better. So, he just kept muttering “No comments” continually through gritted teeth until they were safely past them. He was accompanied to his hotel room, where he rested in preparation for training tomorrow morning. Then the next day arrived and he was picked up by the team's luxurious air-conditioned deluxe team bus. As they arrived at the stadium, there were already fans waiting at every corner to catch a glimpse of the
Chapter 5 The day for the champions world cup opening ceremony finally arrived. Mia was in her trailer at the back of the stadium with her crew members in sight. Everyone was busy and occupied with their task to make sure the ceremony was a success. Sofia and Susan were also with her. Although Susan was busy shouting orders and making sure everything was done right, she still made time to check on Sofia after Mia told her everything that she'd discovered. “Suzy, please do not let Sofia out of your sight. I can't let her meet that disgusting idol of hers”. Suzy was skeptical but she knew she couldn't win against Mia in an argument. “I promise to keep an eye on her. But you know you've already promised her. Who's gonna sign her jersey?” “I know Suzy. I'll sort it out. Just keep her busy until after my performance”. Mia pleaded. “You got it, boss!” Susan replied with a mock bow as they continued with the preparations. Outside her van, the stage was being set in the middle of o
Chapter 6 As the stadium's bright lights cast a golden glow on the lush green field, Andreas's turbulent emotions threatened to upend his entire world. He felt his will to succeed leave him. His morale drained from him. And for the first time in his career, he didn't want to be part of a game because he wasn't confident of winning. Their opposing team are two times world champions and current continental champions. Based on all odds, his team didn't stand a chance. In the dressing room, Andreas had been the subject of ridicule among his teammates. "Hey guys, guess who's performing in the opening ceremony?" one of the players asked, and the room erupted in mocking laughter. "It's our boy's sugar mummy!" another player yelled, making the others laugh even louder. "He thinks he's got a shot! I don't blame him though. I mean... she's hot!" Nico interjected, shooting Andreas a dangerous glare. Andreas couldn't take it anymore, so he threw down the towel he was holding and walk
Chapter 7 Mia trotted back to her van, her heart still racing from the encounter. As she stepped into the van, she was greeted by the concerned faces of her team. "Where's Sofia?" She asked immediately, and was informed that she had locked herself in her section of the van and refused to come out. Mia sighed warily as she plopped down on her small cushion. She'd always wanted to bring her daughter along. She wanted her daughter to watch her perform on the biggest stage of her career. But she'd ruined it. Her heart felt heavy, and she let the tears flow freely. "Oh, no! You're ruining your makeup, Mia." Susan's agitated voice called out. "Guys, come over here. We need to fix her makeup. Again." Susan pulled out a box of tissues, handing them to Mia. As Mia's team worked to repair her makeup, Susan tried to reassure her. "Mia, just let Sofia have what she wants. You brought her here to spend time with you, and not so you two could bicker." Mia was unable to say anything, but
Chapter 8 Andreas watched from the pitch as Mia's powerful voice filled the stadium. His eyes fixed on her with a mixture of admiration and longing. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride as he watched her command the stage with her presence. As Mia's performance reached its climax, Andreas found himself drawn to her, his feet moving of their own accord and he found himself singing to all the classics he'd enjoyed as a teenager up until now. Andreas stood confidently on the field, his chiseled features and piercing blue eyes gleaming. The warm glow of the setting sun cast a golden light on his broad shoulders, accentuating the powerful muscles that rippled beneath his sleek jersey. He stood there surrounded by his teammates and their child mascot. Looking down at his entwined hands with Sofia, Mia’s daughter, he could feel her excitement. Just as his gaze returned to Mia, her eyes met his, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The air was electric with tension
Chapter 9 "Spectacular! Oh my God! That was unbelievable. An unexpected come back and a brilliant way to start the season. The Sunshine Stars reclaim their position in the league with an electrifying 3-2 win against the Golden warriors football club. Which is of course thanks to the man of the moment, Andreas Leonardo. The man of the match and we have him right here with us. So Andreas, tell us how you feel about this win. Are you excited?" A female interviewer asked Andreas who'd just come down from the stage where he received the man of the match award. Andreas flashed a dazzling smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Of course I'm excited. And I'm ready to do more. This is just the beginning for us." He replied confidently, his deep voice sending a thrill through the watching crowd. The stadium's thunderous applause still echoed in the air as Andreas, the star soccer player, stood confidently in front of the camera, his chiseled features and piercing blue eyes gleaming with
Chapter 10 Three weeks had passed since Mia's electrifying performance, and her name was still on everyone's lips. She had catapulted to the top ten most talked-about celebrities, and for once, it was for all the right reasons. But amidst the chaos of her newfound fame, Mia's mind kept drifting back to Andreas. She had thought that maybe, just maybe, he had felt the same spark that she had. But as the days turned into weeks, and she heard nothing from him, Mia realized that she had been foolish to think that he had been interested in her. She'd immersed herself into her work to keep him from popping in and out of her thoughts but it was futile. “You're just stressed, Mia. It's nothing”. She muttered to herself as she sat in her office, staring blankly at her laptop screen, Mia couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment that had settled in the pit of her stomach. As she scrolled through her laptop, she couldn't help herself as she typed up Andreas name. She later decid
Chapter 67 Mia's point of view. The days passed like ghostly shadows crawling across the walls, slow, heavy, and heart-wrenching. I watched my daughter shrink more and more every day as she returned from school. And I couldn’t breathe under the weight of it. The guilt, the shame, the ache, it all folded itself around my lungs like vines, choking every bit of air from me. I’d brought Sofia back home from my mother's house. Tried to pretend like we were okay, like we could move past this. But that illusion shattered the moment she came to me that morning, fully dressed in her school uniform. Slowly, she walked to me, her tiny hands clutching my shirt, her tear-stained eyes pleading. “Please, Mommy,” she whispered. “I don’t want to go back to school. Don’t make me go back there. Please.” I froze, scared that I might know what her answer “Why, baby? What happened?” Her lip quivered. “They make fun of me at school. They said... they said you and I stole Brian's daddy. That I’m the r
Chapter 66Mia’s hands wouldn’t stop shaking. She paced the length of Susan’s living room which had become her final place of comfort over the years. Mia felt like a storm trapped in a teacup, each breath sharp and tight in her chest. Her voice came out in tremors, barely containing the panic clawing at her throat. “He’s back, Susan. And he’s going to take her away from me.”Susan, calm as always, lifted her head from where she sat curled on the couch, her face lined with concern. “Mia… we don’t know that it’s Lucas. What if someone else was behind those messages? You said it was anonymous.”But Mia’s senses had already recognized the handwriting in the venom of those words. “It’s him,” she said firmly, her eyes gleaming with equal parts fear and rage. “I know it in my gut.”No amount of calm reasoning could reach her now. After receiving the message, Mia grabbed Sofia and drove her straight to her mother’s house without a second thought. She needed her safe. Out of reach. Far from t
Chapter 65The weight of Sofia's words hung in the air, suffocating Mia as if the walls themselves had shifted closer."What do you mean, baby..." Mia asked in shock as if she didn't already know what the child meant."I want to see my real daddy, Not Andreas" Sofia had said, her voice sharp and foreign to Mia's ears."But baby, you know Andreas loves you right? He..." Mia paused, and for a moment, she forgot how to breathe. Her hand hovered awkwardly mid-air, the fingers that had been poised to smooth Sofia's hair now stiff and useless. She blinked rapidly, trying to anchor herself to the moment, trying to steady the eruption she felt boiling just beneath her skin. She couldn't lash out. She wouldn't.Drawing in a slow breath, Mia crouched down, lowering herself to Sofia's eye level again, masking her spiraling emotions behind a soft, placating smile. "Sofia, baby..." she said carefully, feeling her heart pound against her ribs, "I understand you miss your daddy. But baby, the thing
Chapter 64 Mia arrived at Sofia's school just five minutes behind schedule. And the first thing Mia noticed was the absence of a smile. Sofia didn’t come running toward her as she usually did, arms outstretched, curls bouncing with every hurried step, face split into the bright grin that had always been Mia’s anchor after long, hard days. Today, her daughter only walked toward her, shoulders slumped, backpack hanging awkwardly off one arm. She climbed into the backseat of the car without a word, buckled herself in, and muttered a flat, "Hi, Mom," staring out the window. Mia blinked, momentarily immobilized behind the wheel. Something twisted sharply inside her chest, but she quickly smoothed her expression before turning in her seat to face her daughter. "Hey, my love," she said in a bright, coaxing voice. "How was school?" A sharp, dismissive tut was Sofia’s only answer. She didn’t even look at Mia, she just sank deeper into the seat, arms crossed tight across her chest like a
Chapter 63If the devil wore perfume, she imagined it would smell like hers, the notes of oud and amber coiling through the air like subtle poison. Tania checked her reflection in the rearview mirror one final time, admiring the silk blouse cinched at her waist, the designer sunglasses that veiled the madness behind her eyes, and the dark lipstick she applied like war paint. No one would question her intentions today. She didn’t look like the type who came bearing vengeance. She looked just like an influential mother who'd just come to enroll her three-year-old son. Brian sat quietly in the back seat of the car she'd borrowed from her doctor buddy Luke. He sat in his booster behind her, clutching a juice box, his legs swinging gently. He had no idea what the day meant. What it cost.“Ready, baby?” she asked sweetly, stepping out of the car and rounding it with practiced elegance. The click of her heels was confident and precise as she unbuckled him and took his tiny hand in hers. The
Chapter 62The door slammed shut behind her like a final verdict.Tania’s heels clicked with frantic rhythm on the battered laminate floor as she stormed into the apartment, a raging storm of anger bubbling in her very being. She barely registered her environment as arms tightened around Brian, who was starting to squirm, and with a huff of frustration, she dropped him onto the lumpy old couch. He fussed immediately, whimpering, kicking, and rubbing his eyes with tiny balled fists, but she was already pacing, clawed hands dragging through her sweat-damp blonde hair. Her skin prickled. Her teeth ground together. Her ears buzzed with the echo of Andreas’s voice, still rattling around her skull like shrapnel.“Full custody,” she spat, venom thick on her tongue. “He said he wants full custody. He's crazy if he thinks, even for one second that I'll agree to give up my child without a fight!”Brian’s cries grew louder as he heard Tania's a
Chapter 61The words settled like a rock in Mia's chest."I'm fighting to get full custody of my son, Brian" Andreas whispered into the quiet of her room, his breath still warm against her collarbone.Mia stiffened in his arms, pulling back just enough to meet his eyes. The air between them crackled but not with the heat from moments before, but with the weight of something heavier, denser. Her lips parted, but the question came out as barely more than a breath."What?"Andreas’s hands slid to her waist, grounding her, steadying her as though he could sense the shift happening inside her. He didn’t repeat himself. He didn’t have to.The room felt suddenly colder, shadows stretching longer against the walls, and the humming silence that followed was almost unbearable.Mia stepped back, folding her arms over her chest as if she could shield herself from the storm that was gathering within. "You want to take him away f
Chapter 60The late afternoon sun bled golden streaks across the sky, casting long shadows over the city park. Laughter rang in the air with children squealing in delight, parents chatting, and the occasional bark of a dog as it chased after a ball. To any outsider, it looked like a perfect family outing. But for Tania, every cheerful note in the air grated against her nerves. As her eyes landed on Andreas, she noticed the tension emanating from his body and he looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here. She watched from the bench as Andreas stood by the side of the play area, his hands in the pockets of his charcoal hoodie, eyes fixed on the small boy laughing inside the ball pit. Brian’s curls bounced as he flailed through the rainbow-colored plastic, his face lit up in wonder and glee. Occasionally, he’d look up, searching for his mother or Andreas. Whenever his gaze landed on Andreas, he’d wave shyly. And Andreas, sweetly and patiently, would
Chapter 59 Mia's night had shifted. It was no longer a hollow echo of Andreas's silence, but now something alive, something burning. The moment she ran into his arms, her body responded before her mind could catch up. His warmth swallowed her, strong arms lifting her as her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist. Her breath caught in her throat as he kissed the side of her neck, his hands firm beneath her thighs. "Shh... quiet," she whispered against his ear, her voice low and teasing. "Sofia's asleep." "Then I guess we better keep our voices down," he murmured, his grin pressed against her skin. He carried her inside like she weighed nothing, and Mia giggled softly, burying her face in his shoulder. The door clicked shut behind them, sealing their world off from everything outside. He set her down in the living room, but Mia didn’t let go of his hand. She held it tightly, eyes sparkling with intention.
