Chapter 10

The next morning felt a little tense.

Abby woke up early, like always. She took a quick shower, tied her hair up, and headed to the big house. The sky was still grey, and the air smelled like rain.

Inside the kitchen, the cook—Mrs. Helen—was already making breakfast.

“Good morning,” Abby said.

“Morning, dear,” Helen replied. “Mr. Edward wants breakfast ready for three. His daughter’s still sleeping, so no rush.”

Abby nodded and started helping with the dishes.

Her hands worked, but her mind wandered.

She kept thinking about what Emma said last night. The way she looked at her, like she didn’t belong. Like Abby was doing something wrong just by being there.

But she wasn’t. She was just working.

Just cleaning.

Right?

Later that morning, Emma finally came down. She walked into the kitchen, wearing a silk robe and holding her phone.

“I want pancakes,” she said, not even looking up.

Helen gave a tight smile. “We have toast and eggs ready.”

Not really. The house felt empty—even though Abby was still in it. Somewhere upstairs, probably curled under her blanket, shutting the world out. Shutting him out.He stared at the mug.So many things unsaid. So many things building between them. The sound of soft footsteps made him lift his eyes. Abby appeared at the kitchen entrance, hair slightly messy, eyes still puffy with sleep. She didn’t look angry. Just… tired. Like the weight of everything was pressing too hard on her chest. She didn’t say anything.Neither did he.She moved to the counter and poured herself a small cup of coffee. The silence stretched between them, heavy but not hostile. Just full.Edward finally spoke. “Did you sleep?”“A bit.”Another pause.“I couldn’t,” he said quietly.A

  • FALLING For EDWARD   When the Past Knocks

Chapter 23The kitchen felt quieter than usual that morning. Abby stood by the sink, rinsing a glass, her thoughts drifting. The air outside was heavy with the smell of rain. She could feel it coming. The sky looked grey through the tall windows, but her mind wasn’t on the weather.Daniel had texted her again that morning.“Can we meet today? Just talk. I won’t stay long.”She hadn’t replied yet. Her fingers had hovered over the screen for minutes, typing then erasing, typing again. She didn’t know what to say. She had missed him. That part was true. • FALLING For EDWARD   Old Faces, New Trouble

Chapter 21 The morning light slipped through the curtains, casting soft lines across the bedroom. Abby was still in bed, her eyes barely open, curled against Edward’s chest. His arm rested lazily around her waist, his fingers tracing idle lines across her back. She loved mornings like this—quiet, warm, with nothing but the soft sound of his breathing beside her. But today felt different. She couldn’t explain why. Just a strange feeling in her chest, like something was coming. She sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes. “I need to go to town,” she said, her voice soft. Edward stirred. “What for?” “Groceries. And I want to get some new soap for the kitchen.” He nodded, his eyes still half closed. “Alright. Be safe.” Later that morning, Abby stepped off the bus, her bag hanging on one shoulder. The town was quiet like usual, a few cars passing, a few shop doors opening. She walked into the small store she always went to, picked a basket, and started down the aisles. She was by t

  • FALLING For EDWARD   It hurts when he is silent

Chapter 19 Abby didn’t come out of her room that night. She barely slept. Her thoughts were loud, tangled, and messy. The woman’s words wouldn’t stop echoing in her head. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw her mother’s face from that old picture… and then Edward’s. Could it really be true? She didn’t want to believe it. But there was a heaviness in her chest now. A small space of doubt that had never been there before. The next morning, she packed a small bag. Just a few things. Her clothes, her phone charger, her mom’s picture… and the old flyer from the diner — the one that led her to Edward in the first place. She didn’t say goodbye. She left a note instead. It was short. I need time to think. Please don’t look for me. —Abby Her hands shook as she placed it on his desk. She looked around the house once, then walked out the front door and didn’t look back. ⸻ She took a cab to a small guesthouse in a quieter part of the city. Nothing fancy. • FALLING For EDWARD   He's hiding something

Chapter 18 The morning light peeked through the curtains, brushing softly against Abby’s face. She turned slowly in bed, her eyes still closed. The sheets smelled like fresh linen and something warm… familiar. Edward. She blinked slowly, remembering the way his arms had wrapped around her last night — not rushed, not wild, just quiet. Like he was holding something fragile. For a moment, Abby stayed still, listening. The house was quiet. Too quiet. She got up and pulled on her robe, stepping into the hallway. Her bare feet touched the cold floor, and she hugged herself as she moved through the corridor. She found Edward in the kitchen. He stood near the counter, wearing a dark sweater and trousers, a mug in his hand. His eyes met hers immediately. “You’re up early,” he said. Abby nodded, stepping into the room. “Couldn’t sleep anymore.” He handed her a fresh cup of tea without asking. She took it with a small smile. “Thanks.” Edward leaned against the counter, watching her qu
