Kaine’s pov.

I had never felt this much anger. The fury coursing through my veins was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. As I stood there, watching the guards prepare to drag Celine away, my hands clenched into fists, and my vision blurred with rage. The onlookers, including that goddamn ex-husband of hers, stood by, doing nothing. Their indifference was a betrayal I couldn’t forgive.

But it wasn’t just anger that consumed me; it was the overwhelming sense of possession. I had let her return home, hoping my fears were unfounded. Yet, when Oscar brought news of her captivity, I lost control. The thought of her suffering, of being held against her will, ignited a fire within me that demanded action. I had to get her back. No matter the cost.

The journey to her was a blur. Each step fueled by the burning need to see her safe. When I finally reached her, the sight of her bruised and battered form nearly brought me to my knees. But I couldn’t show weakness. Not now.

Celine’s pov. The morning sun crept through the large window panes, spilling light onto the polished hardwood floors. I sat by the edge of the bed, already dressed, my body still sore but manageable now. The pain had dulled into a distant throb—nothing compared to what it had been days ago. The healer had done a decent job, but it wasn’t just my ribs that felt bruised. Everything in me—my trust, my pride, my sense of belonging, it all felt broken in pieces.Kaine hadn’t said much since he told me we were leaving today.Bloodfang…I had known this day would come the moment he stood in that council ring and claimed me like I was his property. Not like someone he wanted, but someone he owned. He hadn’t asked me if I wanted to go. Because he knew the answer. And because I knew this was no longer about what I wanted. But despite the bitterness sitting on my tongue, I knew exactly why I was going. The politics, the reputation, the protection. But most of all—because of him. And that made m

Celine’s pov. As we continued to drive toward Bloodfang, the tension in the car was suffocating. Each moment echoed with unspoken conflicts, and I could feel Kaine's sharp gaze on me, assessing my every expression. I focused on the scenery outside, yet my mind waged its own battle, grappling with the emotions swirling within me.“What will happen when we reach Bloodfang?” I asked quietly, breaking the silence. I needed to know what awaited me at the end of this road.Kaine’s jaw tightened at my question. “You’ll be introduced as my… guest. You will remain under my protection.” “Guest?” I echoed incredulously. “Is that really how you see me? You may have taken me from my home, but that doesn’t grant you ownership over my title or feelings.”He glanced at me, a flicker of something I couldn’t quite place beneath his stoic facade. “This isn’t the time to test boundaries, Celine. My role is to keep you safe, and that is all I’ll guarantee until we arrive.”The words “keep you safe” stru

Celine’s pov. A part of me wanted to trust his words, but another part screamed of the dangers awaiting me. What if I couldn't fulfill the expectation? What if I failed? With Matthias watching us with curiosity, Kaine continued, “This is a chance for you to show everyone, yourself included, that you can hold your own. You’re not merely a guest here, Celine. You’re capable of so much more than you realize.”With that offer came the weight of my insecurities, creeping into my thoughts. The prospect of proving myself felt like an insurmountable task. Yet beneath that daunting thought was a flicker of defiance, a need to resist being seen as weak. For the first time since arriving, I felt the fire within me stir, mixing with the fear that trembled at the edges of my bravado. “Fine. If this is what it takes to earn my place, I’ll join the training.” Kaine’s expression morphed from doubt to something resembling pride. “You’ll adapt faster than you think, Celine. I have faith in you.” “Y

Celine’s pov. My first day of training with matthias was not as hard as I expected. And he was unexpectedly gentle. No unnecessary shouting or shifting like some people I’ve trained with. The training yard had emptied out as the sun dipped low behind the jagged mountains of Bloodfang. The air was thick with the scent of dust and sweat. I wiped the back of my hand across my brow, my breathing still ragged from the final set of drills Matthias had walked me through. He was brutal, sure, but he had a teacher’s patience. Unlike Kaine, who stood a few feet away now, arms crossed, jaw clenched, watching like a shadow ready to pounce. His eyes tracked every move, his disapproval practically radiating off him in waves.Matthias finally nodded, murmured a quick “We’ll pick up tomorrow,” and left, his footsteps fading into silence.I turned slowly, still catching my breath, and found Kaine exactly where he’d been the entire time—silent, unyielding, the Alpha King of his fortress, glaring as i

Kaine’s pov. When I arrived, she was sitting alone on the edge of the training mat, towel around her neck, a bottle of water dangling loosely from her fingers. Her cheeks were flushed, but her eyes were distant. I didn’t like that look. That faraway look like she was drifting away from me. I stepped closer, and she glanced up. Her expression shifted, guarded now. But not afraid. “Back so soon?” she asked, voice dry. I didn’t answer immediately. I stood in front of her, fists clenched, heart pounding too hard. “I don’t like him training you,” I said simply. She scoffed, standing to face me. “Yeah, I figured. Care to explain why, or are you just going to stand there brooding and breaking furniture again?” I stared at her for a long time. Then… “Because I don’t trust him.” “Why?” she asked, stepping closer. “You invited him here.” “I didn’t invite him. He showed up. Like he always does.” Her eyes narrowed. “What does that mean?” “It means…” I dragged a hand down my f

Celine’s pov. What was happening to me? Why? I lay there, cocooned in the unfamiliar stillness of the room, my head resting on Kaine's chest. I could hear the steady thrum of his heartbeat, a rhythm that both calmed and confused me. This man—this enigma who had somehow tangled himself in the fabric of my being—had ignited a conflicting storm within me. I was certain I hated him. I had convinced myself I wanted nothing to do with him. Yet, here I was, aching with an inexplicable yearning. His skin was warm beneath my fingertips as I absentmindedly played with the dark hairs scattered across his chest, my mind racing with the lingering echoes of our earlier confrontation. The way he had touched me, the words he had whispered—were they true? Did they mean anything at all? Or were they just weapons he wielded skillfully, designed to ensnare and manipulate? I cast a sidelong glance at him, attempting to read the icy mask he wore. Kaine was always so composed, a façade meticulously const

Celine’s pov. Kaine's cold demeanor snapped back into place as he shifted to a more defensive posture. “Tess! What are you doing here?” She blinked, regaining her composure with remarkable speed. “I came all the way to see you, Kaine. I didn’t mean to interrupt…” Her voice drifted off as she caught sight of me lying beside him, her expression morphing from surprise to annoyance in an instant. “Who’s this?” “Not your concern,” Kaine snapped, the sharpness in his tone leaving no room for negotiation.“Not my concern?” Tess countered, planting her hands on her hips. She was unyielding, the kind of girl who never shied away from confrontation. “I traveled here just to see you, and now you’re telling me to wait because of some girl?” “I’m not talking to you as Kaine,” he said, a steely glint in his eyes, “but as the lord sovereign. Leave us be.”Tess narrowed her eyes at him, incredulous. “You can’t be serious.” She turned to glare at me, as if assessing the threat I posed, and the int

Celine’s pov. I ended up doing most of the work before dinner. Who the hell does Tess think she is? What gives her the right to act like she’s superior to me? And who is she to the Alpha king, anyway? It felt as though she had developed an unnecessary hatred for me, but I hadn’t done anything wrong. No, it certainly wasn’t my fault she barged in on me and Kaine like that, leaving me bewildered and embarrassed.Carrying the cutlery in my hands, I walked into the dining area. The solemnity of the moment was overwhelming. This was supposed to be my last task for the evening, yet as I entered, I paused, feeling the weight of the awkwardness in the air. Everyone was already seated, an unspoken tension palpable among them. Kaine sat at the head of the table, exuding authority, his posture regal and commanding. Opposite him sat a man I suspected was Tess's father, a figure of undeniable power who scrutinized the room with a penetrating gaze. Tess, on the other hand, was seated too close to

Kaine’s pov. I don’t know if she’s realized it yet, but I have…She’s my mateI’ve known for a while now—long enough for the knowledge to settle into my bones, long enough for it to stop shocking me every time I look at her. Still, the truth never loses its weight. It’s a constant presence, an invisible thread pulling me toward her with every breath I take, every thought I try to push away. It started as a whisper, a tug at the back of my mind. But now it’s a roar, deafening and relentless.Yes, she had a mate before. I know that. The whole damn world knows that.I remember the way people talked when she arrived. The story of her loss passed between lips like folklore, always laced with that same undertone: tragic. Unclaimed. Cursed. Stronger for it, perhaps. But broken, too.And yet here I am. Her second chance.I should be grateful. I should be elated, even. The Moon Goddess gave me a gift most never get—to be paired with someone so rare, so resilient, so beautifully fierce that ev

Celine’s pov.The next morning, sunlight streamed through the sheer curtains, bathing the room in a soft golden glow.I stirred beneath the covers, momentarily disoriented. For a split second, I reached out instinctively to the other side of the bed, searching for warmth. But it was empty. Kaine was already gone.I sat up slowly, running a hand through my tangled hair. My body ached deliciously from the night before; sex had become an everyday thing for us. but a deeper ache pulsed in my chest—an ache that had nothing to do with touch and everything to do with the way he had clung to me, spoken to me, stayed with me through the night.I pulled on a simple white robe and padded barefoot downstairs. The house was still quiet, but this time, the scent of fresh coffee and bread lingered in the air. Somewhere beyond the kitchen, I heard movement—maids, maybe, bustling quietly, cleaning and resetting the world Kaine and I had unraveled in the night before.I paused by the window, watching t

Celine’s pov. The walk back to the villa was longer than usual. Not in distance—but in weight. The words Matthias had thrown at me echoed louder with every step. I told myself I didn’t care. That I’d heard worse. That nothing could rattle me after everything I’d done to hold Bloodfang together. But somehow, his voice still lingered.“You don’t ask for loyalty. You demand it.”The wind bit at my jaw as I turned the final corner leading to the private gates. The guards stood straight, stiff as statues as I passed. They didn’t dare speak—not to me. Not now.I slammed the villa door shut behind me and leaned against it for a breath. The house was silent again, spotless, polished. Whatever traces of last night were left had been wiped clean by the staff. As if it never happened.Except… I could still smell her. Still feel her. Her laughter. Her voice gasping my name. The way her body had curled into mine after.I looked up toward the stairs, toward where I’d left her this morning. I shoul

Celine’s pov. One of the women paused to collect a tray near the entryway, and I instinctively stepped back, half-hiding behind one of the stone columns that lined the corridor. She glanced in my direction briefly, her face carefully neutral, but I saw the flicker in her eyes.Recognition. My heart sank.I took a shaky breath and finally forced myself to keep moving. I needed answers. Or at the very least, I needed to find Kaine and yell at him for not warning me about the twenty people apparently living inside this house. The kitchen was empty, save for the smell of fresh coffee and something baking. Kaine was nowhere in sight. Neither was Matthias or anyone else familiar.Where the hell did he go? And why didn’t he tell me this place wasn’t as private as he made it seem?I leaned against the counter, chewing my lip, trying to ignore the echo of last night still rippling through my bones. The way he held me. The way his voice broke when I called his name. The way he kissed me after

His fingertips grazed my skin like he was afraid of hurting me now, as if his roughness from earlier had been stored away, tucked into the shadows. When he was done, he reached for the water, lifting it to my lips. “Drink.”I didn’t argue. My throat was dry, and I needed something to ground me. I drank slowly, his hand steady at the back of my neck. When I was finished, he set the glass aside and slid into the bed beside me, pulling me into his chest with no hesitation.Just… holding me.I rested my head against his bare chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart. His fingers traced slow circles over my back, and the warmth of his body bled into mine until I stopped shaking. Until I felt safe.“Kaine…” I whispered. He didn’t answer at first. His hand came to rest at the back of my head, holding me there, like he needed me close just as much as I needed him.“I’m here,” he said f

Celine’s pov. The words wrecked me.He leaned back just enough to pull the shirt over my head, eyes darkening as he took in the sight of me. His hands followed his gaze, gliding over my chest, fingers teasing the edge of my bra before tugging the straps down. I arched up toward him, unable to help it.“Tell me you want this,” he said, voice suddenly low, tight, like he was holding himself back with every ounce of strength he had.“I do,” I breathed, and it wasn’t just lust behind the words. It was surrender. Full, raw, terrifying surrender. And that was all it took. The tension between us shattered.Kaine kissed me again, but this time there was no restraint. His mouth was hot and hungry, his hands everywhere—cupping, gripping, dragging me deeper into the moment. His shirt came off in seconds, and the feel of his bare skin against mine made me gasp into his mouth. He moved down, mouth trailing over my collarbone, down my chest, teeth grazing just enough to make me writhe. Celine’s pov. He set the glass down on the small table beside the hearth with a soft clink. Then, slowly, deliberately, he reached for my waist and pulled me to him—not roughly, not like the wild, volatile Kaine I’d grown used to, but with a kind of reverence that unnerved me more than any snarl ever could.I didn’t resist. My body betrayed me the moment his fingers touched the small of my back. The air left my lungs in a shaky exhale, and I tilted my head back just slightly, instinctively, like my body knew what was coming.“I want you to stop pretending,” he murmured, voice low, rich, and fraying at the edges. “Like you don’t lie awake thinking about the way I touch you. Like your body doesn’t burn when I’m near.”His thumb brushed the skin just beneath the hem of my shirt. Barely there. But it was enough to make my knees soften.“I don’t—” I started, but the words were weak. Hollow.“Liar,” he whispered, and his mouth descended on mine.It wasn’t gentle. It wasn’t asking. It was c

Celine’s pov. The words seemed magic in their simplicity and weight. What would life be like once I stepped over the threshold of that luxurious villa? Would I still feel like an outsider, or would I find my place beside him? Shaking my head to dispel the lingering thoughts, I started moving around the room. I stuffed clothes into a suitcase, my mind racing as I tried to make sense of my emotions. Why did this matter to me so much? Perhaps it was the possibility that I could find solace more than anything else. I had a chance to carve out my own space, to navigate this world with Kaine as my unlikely companion. The thought filled me with both dread and excitement, a dangerous cocktail that burned in my chest. It wouldn’t be easy, but what in life ever was? I owed it to myself to find out what lay on the other side of that door—what could be formed if I let my walls come down, at least for a moment. After what felt like eternity, I zipped up the suitcase decisively, determination w

Celine’s pov. I lay on the bed, the fabric cool and smooth against my skin, but it did little to soothe the storm brewing in my heart. What an eventful evening it had been. Did Kaine really get mad because Tess called me a maid? A part of me wanted to laugh, but the other was too caught up in the whirlwind of confusion that surrounded my emotions. My mind raced. What exactly was happening to me? I had sworn I hated Kaine, ever since the fateful moment he traded me for a secret, ripping away any semblance of control I had over my own life. He had taken me hostage, thrown me into a world I never wished to be a part of, with the weight of his title hanging over me like a dark cloud. Every encounter with him felt like a battle between my instincts and my desires. But now? Now, perhaps somewhere deep inside, that venomous hatred began to fade, blurring into something alarmingly akin to yearning. I hated the realization, hated the way it twisted my stomach into knots. Was I really starti
