CHAPTER 8✍️

Starr’s POV

The next morning, I gazed into the mirror, my eyes sparkled with self-admiration. I couldn’t help but notice the transformation that had taken place over the past two years. My skin, had lightened to a radiant glow, My curves, were mind blowing.

With a gentle smile, I traced the contours of my face, my fingers dancing across my high cheekbones, my full lips, and my almond-shaped eyes. I felt like a work of art.

We had already packed our things yesterday, so it wasn’t hard to get the airport that morning.

Few hours later, I checked the flight status and saw that our plane had just landed. My heart skipped a beat.

We made our way to the arrivals gate, my eyes scanning the crowd for a glimpse of my best friend .

And then, suddenly, I saw her. Her long hair flowing behind her. Her eyes locked onto mine, and a radiant smile spread across her face.

“Lizzy” I exclaimed, rushing towards her with open arms.

I swept her into a tight hug, feeling a mix of emotions: joy, love, and a hint of nostalgia. We held each other for a moment, the world around us melting away.

“I’ve missed you so much, Starr,” she whispered, her voice choked with emotion.

“I’ve missed you too, Lizzy,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. “I’m home now.”

I almost forgot, that I came with Tania, I and Lizzy were locked in our own world that we didn’t even notice anyone around us. “Oh, Lizzy meet my friend Tania, the one I told you about,” I said with a huge smile on my face.

Lizzy’s eyes brightened, and she extended a hug to Tania. I always knew my best friend had a good heart, so I was sure it wasn’t going to be an issue bringing Tania along with me. “Welcome Tania, it’s really nice to meet you.”

They exchanged pleasantries, and afterwards we left for our home.

That night we all laughed, did videos and took pictures, talked about a lot of things and Lizzy wouldn’t stop talking about her boyfriend, how amazing he is, how cute, and all of that. I couldn’t help but feel extremely happy for my best friend and I hugged her and told her she deserved the best.

•••••••••••

Somewhere in Dubai, in another apartment.

Seven’s POV

I had arrived a few hours ago, and the guys wouldn’t stop talking nonstop about Gab’s woman and her friends, especially one. They said she just arrived too. They’ve been constantly saying she’s too beautiful and was my kind of woman, but I knew they were clearly insane.

“Seven, come and see!” Gab called out, his voice filled with excitement. “You won’t believe who Lizzy posted.

I walked into the room, curiosity and confusion etched on my face. “Who is it?”

“That friend of hers she always talked about, the one I told you about, remember?” Gab wanted me to remember, but I didn’t always put things that didn’t matter in heart, so I was confused.

“Seven, the one I said Lizzy showed her picture to me, God! That girl is so gorgeous.” He added with an expression that was clearly uncalled for.

“Guys, what is it? Man, why do you have that look on your face? Chris and Jude walked in on us having that conversation, and Gab quickly showed them a picture of the girl he was talking about and they flared up, saying all the nice things about her.

Chris replied, his eyes fixed on the screen. “Oh my God, she’s so beautiful!”

They all gathered around, equally mesmerized by her appearance on Lizzy’s video.

“Whoa, she’s stunning!” Jude exclaimed.

“I know, right?” Chris agreed. “I mean, we knew she was pretty, but...wow.”

I chuckled. “You guys need to calm down. It’s just a video.” And they all looked up at me, and Chris spoke up instantly.

“Man, you should come take a look at her, I’m sure you will leave that playboy life of yours and focus more on commitment,” Immediately that rolled that of his mouth, I couldn’t control my laughter and I ended up laughing out loud.

“What? Are you insane? Chris, why would you even think that I, Seven, would ever get involved in a stupid committed relationship? I’m honestly done. After Trisha, there’s absolutely no woman I’d ever be involved with,” I replied, with honesty filled in my tone.

“Really?” Chris threw that at me immediately. What if you fall in-love with her? He added.

“You’re clearly crazy, Chris, Gab, you should tell him.” I added with a hint of sarcasm in my voice. I’m not capable of love again, but clearly heartbreak. I added.

Amusement spread across Chris’s face immediately. I said that, And I knew what would come next would be a stupid trick.

“Really?” So you want to bet on it? If you fall in-love with her, you’d give me half of what is in your bank account, deal? He responded almost immediately, with a huge smirk on his face.

I wanted to prove them wrong, cause I knew all women were the same, slutty and dependent. “I thoughts to myself. I know she’d fall just like every other slut.

I smirked, confident in my abilities. I’m the one who’s going to make her fall cheaply And when I do, she’ll be just like all the others - begging for my attention, dependent on me for everything and Of-course want more from me, then I will freaking dump her ass and win the bet“

“Well, Lizzy just told me she’s back in town now, and I told her to try to convince her for all of us to have dinner on Friday.” He concluded, Chris and Jude were already so overjoyed to meet this girl, but for some unknown reason I was too, but at the same time I didn’t want to. But I guess I should, cause I’m just about to fuck another Slutty Bitch!!! And win this godforsaken BET.

Starr’s POV

The next morning the girls were all in my room, and Lizzy kept on asking who Kelvin was and I kept on explaining that he was just a friend but she didn’t believe, and finally when she did she instantly made a funny requesting face, I’d recognize that face anytime. She always did that each time she wanted to ask me for something that I’d definitely say no to.

“Okay, come out of it Elizabeth,” I said calling out her full name, and we all bursted out into laughter. “Come on, spill your shit. What do you want from me?” I asked.

Still making that face, like a baby that wants breast milk from her mother, Lizzy finally opened her mouth to talk to me. “Baby, it’s not something hard, just a little tiny request. Please promise me you’ll say yes,” she started off, but hurriedly added another. “I know you love me, so you’ll say yes,” she added, cause she knew I was a head nut to crack.

And the moment she did all that to make this request, I knew it was something either provoking, or something I’d never agree to. “Lizzy, what’s it? I hurriedly asked her.

“Okay, I’d like for you to come with us to a dinner date. All of us are going right, Tania? You would, right? I hurriedly threw at Tania. And before I could process anything, Tania was already flying her hands up to show how happy she was to go out, so she instantly said yes. “Yes, Lizzy, I’ll go too.”

“Jesus Christ!, please can you all calm down? I’m trying to understand the whole thing,” And to be honest, I was, I’m confused. “Lizzy, what date? What are you talking about? I asked her and I wanted to a full explanation for that date. I knew Lizzy she just wants me to agree and when she gives her full explanation, I won’t be able to back out knowing that I’ve promised her.

“It’s just a date, Starr,” she replied, squinting her eyes like something was in them.

“I know, Lizzy. It’s just a date. But it’s just going to be us, right? The four of us?” That exactly was what I wanted to know. Lizzy started looking around like she lost something. I instantly knew she wanted me to meet other people, and I’m no fan of that.

“Starr, they’re my friends, and trust me, they don’t bite.” She said, trying to sound convincing.

Wait a minute, what did I just hear? They? Is she kidding me? “Elizabeth, did you just say they? Like it’s not just one person but multiple? I asked. My voice sounded confusing but firm.

“Ye…., Yes.” she responded stuttering. But I wasn’t in the mood for odd plays. I just wanted her to tell me the truth.

“Lizzy, please spill it already.” I asked, my voice etched with firmness.

“Okay Starr, I will, but first, promise me you’d say yes, promise me you’d agree…” but I cut her off immediately.

“No, Lizzy, I won’t promise you anything.” My facial expression is rigid. So she can grab the memo. “Lizzy, if they’re the opposite gender, MEN, count me out of it. I’m not going. I concluded, my voice stern. Tania and Ella just stood there watching us banter.

“See why I didn’t want to say anything? Cause I knew you’d give that answer. Starr please, there’s no harm in having a dinner date with men, moreover, one is my boyfriend, Gab, the one I told you about? And I really want you to meet him. Please, babe.” She added, trying to sound really convincing, but I wasn’t having it. I wasn’t going to sit with that godforsaken gender.

“Lizzy, honestly, I’

“Starr, come on, please, just this once. Let’s have fun. And you don’t necessarily need to speak to them.

After a few hours, it was night, and they started dressing up, Lizzy still came to me with a sad face, so I just agreed and she immediately ran off to my wardrobe to get me a beautiful dress, that showed all my curves.

I dressed up, and I looked so beautiful. Lizzy applied a light makeup for me and we were all set to go.

Few minutes later, we arrived and my phone rang so we told Tania and Ella to go in, while Lizzy waited for me to finish my call, cause she was scared I’d go back home. Honestly, I wish I could.

I finished making my call, and we both stepped into the restaurant, immediately we did, everyone single person, both those who were on a date with their boyfriends, they all turned and were gawking at us, especially at me and I was shy but I didn’t want to show it.

The table we were headed, the guys all looked profusely. Tania and Ella kept on looking at me, but I noticed Ella’s face. She was giving me this look that I didn’t know how to describe, so I just took my gaze elsewhere till we stopped there. And 2 guys stood up immediately to shake my hand.

“Hi Starr, right? It’s finally nice to meet you, I’m Christian” A light-skinned one shook hands with me. Then it was followed by Lizzy’s boyfriend, then a very dark skin one. He called his name Jude, and I nodded.

Then lastly, a man I didn’t even notice, he’d been seated there all along the whole pleasantries. He looked at me, and I felt his sharp blue eyes. Oh My God! They were so beautiful. He stood up, and I could clearly see his chiseled arms. He looked so beautiful, No handsome. I fought with my thoughts.

He had a very smooth lined jaw, his long pointed nose, and a caramel skin color. He was a perfect man. He was the most beautiful man I’d ever seen in my entire life. But the moment he smirked and gazed directly into my eyes, with our hands joined together, I knew he was worse than Charles. He was a badass playboy that I hated immediately.

“Hi, I’m Seven, it’s finally nice to meet the almighty Starr. They always talk about,” I got confused cause, is he okay? But I let him finish his speech. “I guess, You’re QUITE BEAUTIFUL THOUGH,” Immediately he said that I hated him even more. It felt like it was just the two of us there, others were simply staring at us.

And I came to the conclusion. He was just a handsome, proud duck. Really? I’m quite beautiful? Is he insane? Did he just insult me?

The Next Morning 🌅The sunlight spilled through the sheer curtains, painting soft golden patterns across the bed. My head still ached faintly, but the dizziness had eased. I reached for my phone and blinked at the time — 7:43 a.m.Seven wasn’t beside me. His side of the bed was empty, the sheets already cool. I sat up, rubbing my temples as flashes of last night returned — the nausea, the photo, the haunting sense that something was slipping through my fingers. The faint sound of voices drifted from downstairs. I slipped into one of Seven’s shirts and padded barefoot toward the stairs. Halfway down, I stopped. He was on the phone again.“…I told you I’ll take care of it,” he said, his tone clipped. “No, she doesn’t know anything yet. And she won’t — not until I’m ready to have that discussion with her.”My breath caught. There was a long pause before he spoke again, softer this time. “I made a promise, and I intend to keep it. Even if it costs me.”“Moreover, I’m not still sure about

Days Later ⏱The last three days have been nothing short of blissful. Sometimes, I still catch myself smiling for no reason — just thinking about everything that’s happened.Seven and I finally went to Nigeria to see my father. It had been almost a year since I last saw him, and as the car pulled into our compound, a wave of memories came rushing back — childhood laughter, long evenings under the mango tree, and the sound of his voice calling me “my sunshine.”He was already waiting on the veranda when we arrived. The moment he saw me step out of the car, he opened his arms wide, and I ran straight into them. His familiar scent — a mix of aftershave and home — wrapped around me like comfort.“Daddy,” I whispered, smiling through tears.“My daughter,” he said softly, holding me tighter. “You’ve grown into everything your mother once dreamed you’d be.”Then he looked at Seven, who stood a few steps away, waiting respectfully. My father’s eyes softened even more.“And you must be t

That night, long after everyone had gone to bed, although Seven was in the bathroom, I lay awake staring at the ceiling. My phone glowed faintly in my hand, showing me pictures of my boutique in Dubai. The racks of dresses, the soft lighting, the gold letters of my name shining proudly above the entrance—it all looked so far away, like a life I wasn’t sure I’d get to keep. Was I really supposed to leave it behind? My customers, my work, everything I built from scratch? The idea of starting over in New York pressed on my chest, heavy and suffocating. The bathroom door opened, and Seven walked out with a towel slung around his shoulders. His eyes went straight to me. I quickly shoved my phone under the pillow.“You’re still awake?” he asked, his voice low.“Couldn’t sleep,” I said, forcing a small smile. He sat down on the bed beside me and took my hand. “You’ve been quiet all evening. What’s going on?”“Nothing,” I lied quickly. “I’m fine.”He leaned in, kissed my forehead. “Whatever i

Seven kissed the top of my head like that would stitch me back together, then pulled back just enough to study my face. He searched my eyes as if he could exorcise Kenzie’s words with a look.“We don’t have to stay,” he said quietly. “If you want, we can leave. Now.”For a second, I almost nodded. I wanted nothing more than to escape—to shrink away from the laughter, the looks, the sense that the world had turned against me. But something stubborn lurched up inside me, hot and fierce. I had never been good at running from things that hurt me; I had a habit of staying until I understood why they hurt.“No,” I told him before I could talk myself out of it. My voice was small, but there was a steadiness beneath it. “I don’t want to make a scene. But I—” I swallowed. “I want you to stand with me. Not to argue with them, but just—be here.”He nodded, relief loosening his shoulders. “Always,” he said. “I’ll be right here.”Seven’s words lingered even after he left the hallway. “I’ll always

I closed the bedroom door behind me and headed straight for the bathroom. My hands trembled as I turned the lock and leaned against the sink. The fluorescent light hummed above, its harsh glow reflecting my red-rimmed eyes in the mirror.Kenzie’s voice still echoed in my head like a cruel refrain—pretender… no good for him… I’d rather die than let my brother marry you.The words dug under my skin, sharp as broken glass. I wanted to scream, to throw something, to tear her words out of my memory, but I just gripped the edge of the sink until my knuckles turned white.I didn’t even realize how much time had passed until I heard the soft knock.“Starr?” Seven’s voice came through the door, calm but laced with worry. “Are you okay?”I froze, staring at my reflection. Did I look okay? My mascara smudged beneath my eyes said otherwise.I turned slowly, facing the door, though he couldn’t see me. My voice cracked as I spoke:“Why didn’t you tell me… that you had sweet sex with Tina? Kenzie’s

The kitchen went utterly still after Catherine’s sharp words. Her voice, though small, carried a weight that silenced everyone.“Stop talking to her like that, Kenzie. You don’t get to treat her that way. She doesn’t deserve it.”Kenzie blinked, clearly surprised. For once, she had no quick comeback. The smugness slipped from her face, leaving only tight lips and a hard stare. Catherine, tiny but unyielding, stood her ground, her eyes blazing with quiet defiance.I let the silence linger for a moment before slowly turning to face Kenzie’s friend. She still sat perched on her stool, smirking as if she’d already won. My chest rose and fell, but when I spoke, my voice was steady, and sharper than glass.“You know what?” I said, meeting her eyes without flinching. “I’m not even going to argue about what happened in the past. Yeah… maybe you had something with Seven. Maybe it was good.”Her smirk widened as if she thought I was surrendering.“But here’s the truth,” I went on, my words cutt
