Natalie's POV

Maurice resumed duty three days after he called in sick. His face was badly bruised when I visited, so much that I started to think Kevin was the culprit.

“It wasn't Kevin" That was the only response Maurice uttered the whole day. He spoke very little and was less cheerful.

His mother, Louisa Brown, was much younger and prettier than I imagined her to be, and she kept smiling at me regardless of the situation and her son's condition.

“Welcome my child, Maurice will be fine soon..." she said.

Whether Maurice spoke or not, I was ready to be there for him. I moved into the kitchen not minding the pleas of Maurice's mother not to bother, I had come with condiments required to prepare a fish soup broth and that I did for Maurice, hot and spicy.

“I was simply repaying him his favor of standing by me when I was ill" I told Louisa, but she felt awkward seeing her son boss' daughter prepare a meal.
