Lucille's POV

“Lucy, I love you. I know I've said it so many times already. On the day I finally got the courage to confess to you, on the day I got engaged to you, on the day we got married, the day you gave birth to our son and every day to this point,”

I shook my head in disbelief as he continued, my cheeks burning red.

“Today makes us ten years together. Ten years of loving each other and another day to remember our vows, to understand our hearts that long for each other. I will continue to love you, cherish you and be one with you because without you, I can't breathe. You are my soulmate, Lucy, and forever, I wish to be with you. Do you accept to be my wife forever, never letting anyone come in between us?”

I took a step forward, unable to hide the blush that spread on my cheeks. Benjamin knew how to surprise me. “Yes, I accept,” I said, giving out my hand.

With the napkin, he slid the ring onto my finger. It burned, but I ignored it as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into a big hug. “I love you, Lucy,” he confessed once again.

I smiled. “I love you too,“

“Oh my God, they've been together for ten years and he still loves her so much. I wish I could get a man like him,” I heard a lady say.

“Who said love fades? This is the ideal marriage,”

“They are such a lovely couple. I'm jealous,”

The whispers of everyone around me only made me shy and blush harder. Benjamin pressed a kiss on my lips and then on my forehead. “Let's go,” he said, taking my right hand.

Like the gentleman he was, he opened the passenger door for me. We drove back home in silence as I stared at my husband with a love stricken look.

I've loved this man for ten years and not once had his love for me diminish. I couldn't wish for a better man. Once we got home, he opened the front door.

“Mommy!” Harvey shrieked, jumping off the couch as he ran to me.

“Hey baby,“ I crouched down. “Did you have fun with Aunty Katherine?”

Harvey nodded. “She helped me with my assignments and she told me I could watch some TV until you get back,” he excitedly told me.

“Yeah, yeah, time for bed. Up you go,” I said, kissing his forehead.

I turned to Kathy as Harvey ran off. “Thank you so much for taking care of him while I was away. I hope you aren't mad. I stayed later than we planned.”

Kathy waved her hands. “It's nothing. I know you two lovebirds cannot get over yourself with such an opportunity to have sex,”

"We didn't,” Ben quickly said, almost defensive, but then laughed it off.

“We saved that for later.” He winked at me, making me shake my head.

“Kathy, why don't I say thank you by getting you one of those wines you love,” I said.

She smiled, clapping excitedly as she glanced at Ben. “Really? Thank you. You know I have no money to get that for myself,” she said.

“You don't need to bother when I'm here,” I told her. “I'll need to change and check on Harvey,” I said, grabbing my bag as I walked away.

With a quick change, I checked on Harvey, who was now asleep, then headed for the little bar at the back.

All alcoholic wine was kept away from Harvey's view. I loved this design, as it helped Harvey to have a serene environment. I grabbed three glasses and a bottle of one of my best collections of alcoholic wine before heading back to the living room.

“... you sure are lucky,” I heard Katherine say, a few steps away from the living room.

“Come on, you know I can never touch her when I have you. Sexy, beautiful, young. She is a thirty-year-old mother with nothing to her than her law firm. I promise once I have it, you wouldn't have to worry about her,” I heard Benjamin say and my steps halted.

My husband.

I had never heard him speak of me like that in any way.

But today?

Our anniversary? My thirtieth birthday, he...

“Do it quickly. I can't stand her anymore,”

A lump formed in my throat, hearing the resentment coming from my best friend. Katherine has been my best friend for twenty years. How could she say that?

I heard the couch crunch up as they plopped on it. Then I heard them kiss, passionate, subtle sounds but —loud as it rang in my head, the betrayal sinking into my bones. “Fuck, I missed those lips of yours. I've had to put up with kissing her all night,” Benjamin said.

“I really wish I could divorce her,” he added.

“Then do it,” Kathy hurriedly said.

“You know I can't, sweetie. We both signed a prenup. If I bring forward a divorce, with how good she is, she would find out about our relationship and that would cut me off getting her law firm, but if she is dead...”

They both chuckled at their hidden joke. “Up the dosage on her ring. I need her dead in the next two months. I'll handle Harvey,”

The words from my best friend and my husband shattered me. My gaze dropped to my ring, the diamond shimmering under my gaze, the burn around my finger nothing compared to how my heart pounded in my chest.

Kathy's laughter made me raise my head. My gaze was blurry as tears filled them. “She's so stupid for the title 'goddess of the courtroom'. She could not even spot the change in her rings. She thinks it's diamond, not knowing it's poison,” she laughed once more.

I felt my heart drop to my stomach. My hands shook, my muscles failing me. I stepped back, my grip on the tray tight, but the sound of the glass hitting each other filled the room, alerting them. I covered my mouth to stop myself from screaming.

“Lucy?” Benjamin called.

I reluctantly took a seat, taking in a deep breath. “You think I’ll harm you, don’t you?” she said, smiling.“Should I not think so?” I asked.“You should,” she said, nodding as her smile disappeared. “I don’t like you so much.”Funny she almost had me fooled that she might have liked me even though it was little. “Why pretend then?” I asked. Her smile returned. “I never did. I wanted to help my son. You interpreted it as pretense but it was an act of kindness on my part.”“What does this have to do with King? What does he want from me? What do you want from me?”“I don’t get involve in my son’t business. He chose you for reasons I am not obligated to share with you but what I want from you…” she paused, grabbing a file then tossed it on the table.I gave her a glance before picking up the file. “This is the agreeme

Lucille's POV My head ached. Bad. I groaned, turning to my side but hissed as my head made contact with the pillow underneath. That snapped me out of the darkness that engulfed me.I fluttered my eyes open to a room I didn’t recognize. I lazily turned to the side until it dawned on me what I had just seen. Quickly, I sat up, darting my eyes around.I knew this place. King had brought me here last time. I whipped my head to the side, staring at the bathroom door. If he was inside, I had a few minutes to get the fuck out of here.I didn’t like being in this room and recalling what had happened the last time, I didn’t want to get inbetween all of it. Until I remembered why I had passed out. That strawberry scent wasn’t here to make me feel better, it was to snap me unconscious. Josephine did it. That smile told me everything I needed to know.My things were kept neatly on the chair and I snatched them heading out the door. Fortunately, there was no one as I stepped out. When I spotted t

Lucille’s POV“Your fucking den?” I asked, snapping my eyes from the building we were parked at and the man who sat beside me.“What is the meaning of this?” I asked.I swallowed, watching him stare at me with a blank expression. “You’re safe,” he said.“Safe?” That word was close to making me laugh but I was so frightened to do so. “This place is not permitted to just anyone, especially not me. Why would you bring me here? Was this some kind of test? Or a way to kill me?”“You need to stop thinking I’ll kill you, Lucille.”“You need to try acting like you wouldn’t,” I retorted. “There is a little party going on in there. I brought you in as my date.”“Am I supposed to be happy about that?” My eyes narrowed at him.“They wouldn’t dare attack you when you’re with me.”“I love that you are confident in what you think your people would do but I won’t be with you every single time. How do you expect to protect me then?”“You’ll understand once we get in,” he said, stepping out of the car

Lucille's POV The document landed on the coffee table with a slap. “Thank you again,” I said to Mathew, my phone pressed to my ear as I plopped on the couch with a sigh.“It’s okay, love. I don't mind letting it go, after all, we got a few deals from it,” he said.“I know, but it doesn't change the effect it still had on your business, and still ready to let it go,” I said.“If you really want to appreciate me, let's go out for a drink tomorrow. It's been a while we hung out.”I've been busy for so long I barely interacted with friends. Katherine came around often, and it pulled me out of my work mode. Now, I needed to step out for some time. I agreed before hanging up, staring into space. I left for my room, tossed my bag to the side, took off my clothes, and laid on my back, arms spread, staring at the ceiling.I knew I should have been patient but I realized I didn’t need to always run to King. I was strong enough to handle my headaches on my own. Just this once, I’ll let Benjamin

King’s POVMy thumb grazed the side of her neck in circles. Her fear was quickly replaced with something else. Something I always loved seeing in those beautiful eyes of hers. And I liked them even more when it became defiant, hiding what truly went on in that dirty mind of hers.“What are you doing?” she asked, wrapping her fingers around my wrist. Not pulling, just keeping it there. A touch I was pleased to have.My other hand came around her waist, bringing her even closer to me. She gasped at the movement, pressing into me. “Let go,” she said but didn’t struggle to get free.If she did, she would be out of my grip in seconds. “You wanted answers but from the look of things,” I tucked her hair behind her ears, leaning in. “It seems you already have the answers to that.”She reacted to that —frozen in place for a second. However, she swiped my hand away, stepping back. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” she said.I pulled her back into me. Having her close to me has soon tur

Lucille's POV “I called him in,” Josephine said.“I don't need him here,” King said, without turning around.I blinked and it wasn't Benjamin. He handed over a jewelry box to Josephine before she waved him out of the office.King finally turned around, the safe shut. He held a wooden box but I couldn't let my guard down just yet.I took a cautious step back as King drew closer. However, that didn't stop him. He got close, his eyes locked to my face. Only when he was an inch close to me did he look at the box he held.“Open it,” he said.“Why?” I asked.“You want answers, explanations, they start here.”I briefly glanced at Josephine who looked disinterested. With shaky hands, I opened the box. I expected a lot of things but what was in it made me pause.I raised my head at King before taking out one of the many ring boxes. In it was what I guessed it was.“My wedding ring,” I muttered.I grabbed another and it was the same thing. I tried to take it out but King held my hand. “You can
