LOGINSerena's POV
Instinctively, I dashed around, hoping to avoid the imminent embarrassment but I accidentally bumped into someone and the drinks stained his suit.
A loud murmur echoed from the crowd.
“That's Elliot Vance, he is a cold and dangerous person.”
“Serena will get what she deserves now. Elliot once arrested a nanny for not making his coffee properly.”
“Last I heard, he had his gateman tortured when he had honked at the gate just once.” Another said.
“He must have been obligated to attend the Whitmore’s engagement because I rarely see him at events.”
I lifted my gaze and met Elliot Vance's deep and emotionless eyes. His face was expressionless, like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
Camille immediately stepped forward, bowing. “I apologize for her clumsiness, Mr Vance. Please forgive us.”
But the man in question did not react to Camille's apology. Instead, his gaze remained fixated at me.
I felt the urge to puke, so I quickly turned around and rushed to the restroom.
The murmurs from the crowd increased as I dashed off but I was unaware why. I stayed in the restroom, puking for a few minutes.
After washing up, the door to the restroom flew open and Karen appeared, looking like she'd seen a ghost.
“Serena!”
Completely oblivious, I said. “What's the problem?”
“We need to leave immediately!” She shrieked, the colour draining from her face.
“Why? Did something happen?”
“You have offended Mr Vance, Serena.” She answered.
“I'll apologize. I didn't mean to spill it on purpose.” I said.
“No, you don't get it.” She said hurriedly..”Leaving him standing there without an apology already made him the laughing stock.”
“Serena,” she paused and added, “No one messes with Elliot Vance. We need to leave immediately.”
“Why are you so afraid of him?” I asked as I stepped out of the restroom. “He's just a human being. An apology should do.”
“Serena, you're not listening.”
“Karen, I already said I'll apologize. We need to get back to work.” I replied and dashed off with her following and repeating her earlier words.
When I returned, the chaos had died down and the party was nearing it's end. Guests took to the dance floor and we're enjoying the music.
As I continued to attend to orders, I was not aware of a particular someone watching me keenly from the shadows.
“You really came here to ruin my engagement did you?” Adrian approached me.
I snorted. “You seem to have forgotten that we recently got divorced. Why would I come to ruin your engagement?”
“You could be jealous of Camille, God knows. I'm just here to warn you not to harm Camille or my child in her.” He said and walked away.
I did not spare him another glance as I did not come for him.
When the party came to an end, I looked around for Elliot Vance, hoping to apologize but I did not find him anywhere.
“I wonder what he'll do to you, Serena. He looked pissed when you ran off.” Karen told me as we returned to the hotel.
“Oh, he's not a god, Karen!”
“Then you've not heard tales about him.” She continued, “I heard—” and stopped abruptly.
I saw her face turn pale. When I traced her gaze I saw Elliot Vance standing in front of the hotel with a cigarette in his hand and a guard behind him.
“I think we should run.” Karen suggested.
But I walked up to him instead.
“Good evening, Mr Vance. I wanted to apologize for soiling your suit.” I said to him but his expression remained languid.
I continued, “You shouldn't have bothered stalking me or finding out my next location just because of the accident.”
The guard, whose head was bowed, suddenly looked up at me. His eyes held fear as if warning me to shut my mouth.
I continued, “It was an accident.”
“How do you intend on paying for it?” He spoke, his eyes darker under the night sky.
“Ah…a person like you shouldn't expect repayment. I'm sure you have enough money, what could I possibly offer you?” I replied.
He lowered his gaze, staring at me. His tall frame loomed over me.
“I will not ask again, Miss Cole.”
I chuckled, “You already know my name? Hah, you must have gone extra miles. Are you really that petty? It's just a suit, Mr Vance. What would you have me do?
The guard shot another look at me. Why is he looking at me like that?
“Will you arrest me or sentence me to death?”
Karen held my arm, “Serena.”
“Looking at the suit closely now, I'll be honest with you, Mr Vance. You need to change your wardrobe or even you stylist.”
The guard moved towards me then, but Elliot raised his hand, stopping him.
I continued, “You already have an aloof countenance, giving you a suit as cold as you only makes people have the wrong impression.”
“As a repayment, I can help select clothes that would suit you best and perhaps change the narratives people have about you.” I suggested.
He tossed the cigarette away. “Miss Cole, do you think we're joking here?”
“Fine then,” I sighed. “I'll get you another suit.”
“You have a week.” He declared before walking away.
The previous day. After Finn dropped Camille some meters away from the Whitmore's mansion, he was proud of himself for having managed to turn things around and make Camille believe that she was to blame. He thanked God for his sharp mind, if not for that everything would have crumbled. He drove home with the speed of light and burst through just when Kelvin had finished making dinner.“Kelvin!” He exclaimed. “Thank you.”The latter nodded. “How did she suspect me? God, that bitch! She's gonna be the death of me!”“She most likely linked your device location to hers.” Kelvin explained. “And she says you've been acting weird.”Finn drew in a sharp breath. “Just two more weeks to her due date and I won't have to endure all of this any longer. If she doesn't deliver between that period, I might take things into my hands and make her have an operation.”Kelvin said nothing.Finn turned to him, laughing. “You really are something, Kelvin. I always knew you had it in you!”Kelvin swallowed
“Who is that man?” Adrian's eyes were red with anger.Camille immediately broke down in tears. “I knew you would misunderstand me, Adrian!” She sobbed.Helen Whitmore quickly rushed to her side. She reprimanded Adrian. “I told you it's not what you think. Camille is not like that ex-wife of yours!”Camille added in between her sobs, “I was having a serious craving and no one was home. I had to get to the restaurant myself.”Adrian was not having it. More than anger, fear was dominant in his eyes. He had abandoned his eight years of marriage and that cannot certainly be for a cheating and deceitful woman.“You could have ordered it, Camille. Besides, how did you get to the restaurant? The cars were all parked in the garage.”“Of course I couldn't drive, babe!” She cried harder. “Don't you see how big my belly is? I had to ensure safety so I took a cab.”Richard Whitmore was remained in the background of the situation casually remarked, “The daughter-in-law of the Whitmore family takin
Serena's POV I only had time to think through Elliot's contract when Karen had gone on her date. Since the day he demanded that we get married, I've felt different from the way I was, I couldn't discuss the events of that day clearly to Karen and all I could think of is how Elliot thought about me as the useful tool to claim his father's inheritance.I wanted to be mad and angry that he didn't consider other sophisticated ladies because I was easier to fool, but I couldn't be because he was even offering ten million dollars. After Adrian's betrayal, I didn't think I'd be involved with love again. The seven months contract marriage is just the right fit.And my pregnancy?I drew in a sharp breath. Should I tell him? What if he withdraws the offer? Thinking of it now, I stand to gain more from him, a chance to make the Whitmores regret, a social standing as Elliot Vance’s wife and even ten million dollars that could set me and baby up for life.I bit at my fingernails. Since it's on
Before she could complete her sentence, Kelvin had grabbed her waist and locked her lips in his.Finn grinned. He couldn't thank Kelvin enough for his help. Seeing them kissing, Camille had no more doubt. She let Finn take her away. When Karen acted and pushed Kelvin away, Finn and Camille were already exiting the first floor. A hot slap dashed across Kelvin's face.“How dare you!” Karen was mad. She picked up her bag resting on the table and made to leave but Kelvin stopped her.“Get your hands off me!”“Listen, I'm sorry.” Kelvin apologized genuinely. “I had no other choice.”“You definitely did,” she snatched her wrist from his grip, her glare hitting him like daggers. “But you chose to support your friend and deceive that bitch!” Karen chuckled. “I suppose this has revealed Camille's secret to me. I have the power to avenge my friend now!”She made to leave again but was stopped once more by Kelvin.“What did you just say? Did you know Camille before now?”Karen glared at him.
“Camille?” Kelvin's shock was evident in his voice. Camille stood with a hand resting on her protruding belly. She did not look happy.Kelvin hated this but there was no way he could ditch his friend. He quickly gathered his composure. He smiled warmly as he walked up to her. “I didn't know you'd be stopping by today. Have a seat.”“Where's Finn?” Camille snapped almost immediately, it was obvious she did not buy Kelvin's pretense.Kelvin hated this. Since Camille only stepped in a few minutes after Finn left, could she have seen him?Kelvin decided it's best not to lie, so he answered, “He left the house without telling me his destination.”Camille grabbed his arm, she was close to tears. “You're his best friend. You should know.”“Look, Camille it's snowing. You shouldn't have come all the way here in this condition.”Camille's tears burst through just then. “How can I not have come? Finn has been acting weird lately, I never seemed to notice until last night.”She held Kelvin's ga
Finn Vance was in a world of his own. After putting a call to Karen with no response, he got into his car and drove to his apartment. There, his friend, Kelvin was drinking away.“Where have you been, man?” Kelvin asked the moment Finn walked in.Finn sank into the couch and yawned. “Camille is becoming a pain in the neck.”“Camille? Your pregnant girl?”Finn laughed. “She's Adrian Whitmore's now. Once I get my hands on the Whitmore's wealth through my son, I won't have anything to do with any of them again.”“On the contrary, I think you might have hit the jackpot.” Kelvin grinned.“Stop playing with me, man.” Finn hissed. “I wonder how long it will take for Camille to just deliver that baby. I'm losing my mind. She wants to see me all the time!”“I'm not talking about that, Finn.”I cocked my brows.“Your father dropped by. He dropped a file.”I immediately sat up. “My father? What's he looking for? Don't tell me it's an apology note, Kelvin.”Kelvin rose and handed the file to him
