LOGINSerena's POV
Silence hit the room.
Adrian quickly took the result and glanced through.
“You shouldn't entertain that, Adrian.” Helen said. “She fell pregnant twice and has never carried it to term successfully.”
“There's no guarantee that this baby will live.” Richard Whitmore added.
Adrian squeezed the result and tossed it aside. “This doesn't change anything, Serena. Your body is too weak to carry a child. Considering all the drugs you have taken and the number of things you've done for this pregnancy, there's no guarantee that your womb is still in good shape.”
I couldn't breath. My hand went to my chest.
I did all that for him. The drugs, the treatments, the yoga exercises, everything I did to give him an heir.
Camille tried to stand.
“Don't hurt yourself, honey. Just call me if you need anything.” Adrian was beside her in the blink of an eye.
I stood, rooted to the spot watching the man I love pamper another woman.
During my pregnancy, he never treated me this way.
I wanted to cry and shout but I won't give these people the satisfaction they desire.
Camille turned to me, caressing her protruded belly. “Serena, just take the money my husband is offering. Are you so used to the luxury of the Whitmore mansion that you hate to leave?”
“Shut your mouth!” I screamed. “If you think you won by snatching a man who was never capable of loving his wife truly, i can only pity you.”
“I was thinking of keeping you in the servants’ quarters considering our childhood bond but I might have you to throw you out if you say another word to Camille.” Adrian warned.
I chuckled, “What? You think I'll beg you, Adrian? You were really expecting me to crawl at your feet and beg for your mercy? I'd rather die!”
I stumbled up the stairs, prepared to leave. Upon reaching my room, I shut the door and crouched to my knees in tears.
I didn't even have the time to cry as much as I wanted, as the place suffocated me. I wanted to leave as fast as I can.
I pulled out a luggage and began to toss my clothes in. My shoes and bags went into the other luggage.
There was not much to pack, as I was hardly out since I married Adrian. A year after our marriage, I mostly stayed indoors, trying to conceive being kept as a housewife.
When I finished, I carried my luggages down the stairs.
“Don't let anger cloud your judgement, Serena.” Adrian advised, “Just take my offer.”
“To hell with you and your offer, Adrian. You will regret ever betraying me, I promise you.” I retorted and stormed out of the house.
I took a cab to the nearest hotel and spent half the money I had to get a room. It was already late at night, yet I couldn't sleep. Tears continued to stream down my face no matter how much I tried to stop it.
At the break of dawn, I picked up my phone and called my old time friend, Karen.
“Is this really you, Serena?”
“Hi, Karen.” I replied. “It's been a long time.”
“I'm so happy to hear from you! Are you okay?”
I paused before replying, “I need a place to stay for the meantime, Karen.”
“I'll text you my address right away!”
A glimmer of hope filled my heart after I ended the call. With online $5000 left in my account, it would be impossible to keep lodging in hotels.
I took a shower and got dressed. Upon getting the address from Karen, I boarded a cab and was in front of her house in thirty minutes.
She opened the door and ran out to hug me. I missed her so much but I was forced to stay away from friends.
She stared at me, “You don't look good, Serena. Come in quickly, it's freezing.”
Inside the house, Karen served me some food after I told her everything.
“I knew it from the start, Serena!” She paced the room, “I never trusted Adrian since our school days together but since you loved him I couldn't change your mind.”
“It's all gone now. I'll be fine.” I assured her.
“What about the child in your womb?” She asked.
To be honest, I didn't think about that yet.
“I want to return to interior designs, Karen.” I revealed.
She sighed and sat down on the couch next to me, “Mr. Stephen was very hurt when you resigned eight years ago.”
“I don't know how he'll feel now.” Karen admitted. “I'll reach out to him, Serena. Meanwhile, I've taken up event planning jobs for big families to support myself.”
“I can join you in that.” I offered.
“You're pregnant, Serena. You'll need to—”
“Please just let me. I need something that will get my mind off Adrian.”
She nodded reluctantly.
…..
The next day, I prepared to step out.
“It's snowing, Serena. Where are you going to?”
“To the court. I need to divorce Adrian.”
“Let me come with.” She suggested but I turned her down.
“I'll be back quickly.” I said and boarded a cab and reached the court office.
“Are you sure you want a divorce, Mrs Whitmore?” The lady asked for the second time as she prepared the divorce paper.
“Very sure.” I answered.
She handed it to me and said, “Here. You'll need his signature before you it can be issued.”
I took it from her, breathing a sigh of relief. As I took a cab to the Whitmore mansion, all I wanted was to severe any connection I have left with Adrian.
It didn't take long before I arrived. The house was quiet when I walked in but the maid informed me that Adrian was in his room.
I was glad because I didn't want to step foot in here again.
I hurried up the stairs and opened the door to his room and was shocked by the sight before me.
Adrian and Camille were naked and he was taking her from behind.
The previous day. After Finn dropped Camille some meters away from the Whitmore's mansion, he was proud of himself for having managed to turn things around and make Camille believe that she was to blame. He thanked God for his sharp mind, if not for that everything would have crumbled. He drove home with the speed of light and burst through just when Kelvin had finished making dinner.“Kelvin!” He exclaimed. “Thank you.”The latter nodded. “How did she suspect me? God, that bitch! She's gonna be the death of me!”“She most likely linked your device location to hers.” Kelvin explained. “And she says you've been acting weird.”Finn drew in a sharp breath. “Just two more weeks to her due date and I won't have to endure all of this any longer. If she doesn't deliver between that period, I might take things into my hands and make her have an operation.”Kelvin said nothing.Finn turned to him, laughing. “You really are something, Kelvin. I always knew you had it in you!”Kelvin swallowed
“Who is that man?” Adrian's eyes were red with anger.Camille immediately broke down in tears. “I knew you would misunderstand me, Adrian!” She sobbed.Helen Whitmore quickly rushed to her side. She reprimanded Adrian. “I told you it's not what you think. Camille is not like that ex-wife of yours!”Camille added in between her sobs, “I was having a serious craving and no one was home. I had to get to the restaurant myself.”Adrian was not having it. More than anger, fear was dominant in his eyes. He had abandoned his eight years of marriage and that cannot certainly be for a cheating and deceitful woman.“You could have ordered it, Camille. Besides, how did you get to the restaurant? The cars were all parked in the garage.”“Of course I couldn't drive, babe!” She cried harder. “Don't you see how big my belly is? I had to ensure safety so I took a cab.”Richard Whitmore was remained in the background of the situation casually remarked, “The daughter-in-law of the Whitmore family takin
Serena's POV I only had time to think through Elliot's contract when Karen had gone on her date. Since the day he demanded that we get married, I've felt different from the way I was, I couldn't discuss the events of that day clearly to Karen and all I could think of is how Elliot thought about me as the useful tool to claim his father's inheritance.I wanted to be mad and angry that he didn't consider other sophisticated ladies because I was easier to fool, but I couldn't be because he was even offering ten million dollars. After Adrian's betrayal, I didn't think I'd be involved with love again. The seven months contract marriage is just the right fit.And my pregnancy?I drew in a sharp breath. Should I tell him? What if he withdraws the offer? Thinking of it now, I stand to gain more from him, a chance to make the Whitmores regret, a social standing as Elliot Vance’s wife and even ten million dollars that could set me and baby up for life.I bit at my fingernails. Since it's on
Before she could complete her sentence, Kelvin had grabbed her waist and locked her lips in his.Finn grinned. He couldn't thank Kelvin enough for his help. Seeing them kissing, Camille had no more doubt. She let Finn take her away. When Karen acted and pushed Kelvin away, Finn and Camille were already exiting the first floor. A hot slap dashed across Kelvin's face.“How dare you!” Karen was mad. She picked up her bag resting on the table and made to leave but Kelvin stopped her.“Get your hands off me!”“Listen, I'm sorry.” Kelvin apologized genuinely. “I had no other choice.”“You definitely did,” she snatched her wrist from his grip, her glare hitting him like daggers. “But you chose to support your friend and deceive that bitch!” Karen chuckled. “I suppose this has revealed Camille's secret to me. I have the power to avenge my friend now!”She made to leave again but was stopped once more by Kelvin.“What did you just say? Did you know Camille before now?”Karen glared at him.
“Camille?” Kelvin's shock was evident in his voice. Camille stood with a hand resting on her protruding belly. She did not look happy.Kelvin hated this but there was no way he could ditch his friend. He quickly gathered his composure. He smiled warmly as he walked up to her. “I didn't know you'd be stopping by today. Have a seat.”“Where's Finn?” Camille snapped almost immediately, it was obvious she did not buy Kelvin's pretense.Kelvin hated this. Since Camille only stepped in a few minutes after Finn left, could she have seen him?Kelvin decided it's best not to lie, so he answered, “He left the house without telling me his destination.”Camille grabbed his arm, she was close to tears. “You're his best friend. You should know.”“Look, Camille it's snowing. You shouldn't have come all the way here in this condition.”Camille's tears burst through just then. “How can I not have come? Finn has been acting weird lately, I never seemed to notice until last night.”She held Kelvin's ga
Finn Vance was in a world of his own. After putting a call to Karen with no response, he got into his car and drove to his apartment. There, his friend, Kelvin was drinking away.“Where have you been, man?” Kelvin asked the moment Finn walked in.Finn sank into the couch and yawned. “Camille is becoming a pain in the neck.”“Camille? Your pregnant girl?”Finn laughed. “She's Adrian Whitmore's now. Once I get my hands on the Whitmore's wealth through my son, I won't have anything to do with any of them again.”“On the contrary, I think you might have hit the jackpot.” Kelvin grinned.“Stop playing with me, man.” Finn hissed. “I wonder how long it will take for Camille to just deliver that baby. I'm losing my mind. She wants to see me all the time!”“I'm not talking about that, Finn.”I cocked my brows.“Your father dropped by. He dropped a file.”I immediately sat up. “My father? What's he looking for? Don't tell me it's an apology note, Kelvin.”Kelvin rose and handed the file to him
