LOGINSerena's POV
“What do you think you're doing here, Serena?” Camille yelled angrily as she grabbed the duvet over her. “Are you back to beg?”
Adrian put his briefs back on and walked over to me, running his hands through his hair. “Didn't I tell you, you can't do without me, Serena. You have no place to go.”
I handed him the divorce paper quickly, pushing back any urge to scream. “Sign it.”
He looked surprised at first. “How could you go to the court under the heavy snow? Do you want to lose the pregnancy?”
“Why do you sound like you care for me, Adrian? Does it matter how I managed to get the divorce?”
“Sign it and let's be done with this.” I ended.
He stared at me, an unexplainable feeling appeared in his eyes.
Camille came from behind, placing her hand on his chest and leaning on his shoulder.
“Just sign it quickly, babe. She only came back to see if you could take her back.”
“No. I came back to get his signature so there would be no more connection between us.” I replied. “The faster he signs it the better it will be for us.”
“I hope this is not some quack plan of yours to extort my money under some plot of alimony?” He probed.
I laughed. “Why are you wasting time to sign the documents, Adrian? I have already made it clear that I don't want your money.”
“Where are you going to stay, then?” He demanded. “Your parents died a long time ago. You don't have any relative. How do you think you can cope?”
He paused and continued, “When you eventually lose the child in your womb, you'll need money to take care of yourself.”
“Mr Whitmore, you don't have to worry about me or my child. Just sign the document.”
“Let me warn you, Serena. If you think you can come crawling back after this divorce, you're mistaken. You need to think with a clear head now.”
“Clear head? This is the goddamn best decision I've ever made in my life. I'll be rid of a heartless husband and a foolish father for my child.”
“How dare you!” Camille raised her hand but Adrian stopped her.
“It's fine. Let her be. She will regret this.” He concluded before signing the paper.
“You'll need to come with to get your copy.” I told him.
“I'll be right down.”
“I'll be taking a cab. Meet me there.” I called over as I walked away with the divorce paper in my hand.
I could feel his gaze burning on my back but I did not look back. He will regret ever betraying the love we shared, and replacing me with another woman after everything I did for him.
The drive back to the court was not long. Thankfully, we did not spend much time since he arrived almost immediately.
After a few minutes the divorce certificates were handed to both of us.
“Sir, madam, here are the divorce certificates.”
“Thank you.” I took mine and was about leaving when I felt a grip on my arm.
I pulled away, “Don't touch me!”
“Why won't you listen to me and just think it through? I know you're mad at me but I had no choice. There was no hope for us in the future.”
“Don't you think it's too late for an explanation now, Adrian? Shove it down your ass!”
“Serena—”
“I said, don't touch me.”
“Just take the money so you could get a good place to stay.” He continued. “You might think you're still young and attractive. But you're not, Serena. No man will want a woman like you.”
“Are you serious?”
He laughed condescendingly. “Isn't that the truth, Serena? You're no longer attractive, you've put on more weight and you can't bear a child. I needed an heir from a healthy woman, not a weak one like you.”
“I'm just twenty-nine, Adrian. I have a whole life in front of me. Don't worry about my physique because I don't want the attention of a fool like you.”
I left him standing there and took a cab back to the house.
“I was beginning to get worried, as it's getting late.” Karen said the moment I stepped through the door.
“Well, I'm fine now that the divorce has been processed.” I told her.
She turned around with a card in her hands. “I got this from the grocery store today. It fell from a woman's pocket.”
I took it from her and stared at it. It was Adrian and Camille's engagement ceremony.
“It's happening two days from now.” She added. “I can't believe he replaced you so quickly, Serena.”
I dropped the card on the table. “I don't care, Karen. I just need a job I can get busy with.”
Her face lit up. “I contacted Mr Stephen. He needs to see some of your recent designs first. Do you still think you got in you?”
Hope appeared on my face.
“To be honest, I don't know, Karen. I can try though.”
“Good. Take some rest. Tomorrow we can sort that out.”
I nodded, had dinner and went to bed. I was able to sleep well, probably because I shared nothing with that man anymore.
Karen's screams made me bolt out my room and down to the living room. She was seated next to her laptop, mouth open and eyes widened.
“Did something happen?”
“I just got a job paying two million dollars, Serena! That could take us months!” She giggled.
“What kind of job?” I took to the chair next to her.
“Well, I joined a team of event planners a few months back and days ago I submitted my application for an engagement ceremony.” She explained, excitement written all over her.
“That's wonderful, Karen. I can help out too.” I said but she was about to decline when I insisted.
“We've talked about this already, Karen. Please.”
“Fine. Let's find out who our clients are.” She clicked on the information and suddenly her face turned pale.
“What's the matter?”
She turned to me slowly and answered, “It's the Whitmores.”
The previous day. After Finn dropped Camille some meters away from the Whitmore's mansion, he was proud of himself for having managed to turn things around and make Camille believe that she was to blame. He thanked God for his sharp mind, if not for that everything would have crumbled. He drove home with the speed of light and burst through just when Kelvin had finished making dinner.“Kelvin!” He exclaimed. “Thank you.”The latter nodded. “How did she suspect me? God, that bitch! She's gonna be the death of me!”“She most likely linked your device location to hers.” Kelvin explained. “And she says you've been acting weird.”Finn drew in a sharp breath. “Just two more weeks to her due date and I won't have to endure all of this any longer. If she doesn't deliver between that period, I might take things into my hands and make her have an operation.”Kelvin said nothing.Finn turned to him, laughing. “You really are something, Kelvin. I always knew you had it in you!”Kelvin swallowed
“Who is that man?” Adrian's eyes were red with anger.Camille immediately broke down in tears. “I knew you would misunderstand me, Adrian!” She sobbed.Helen Whitmore quickly rushed to her side. She reprimanded Adrian. “I told you it's not what you think. Camille is not like that ex-wife of yours!”Camille added in between her sobs, “I was having a serious craving and no one was home. I had to get to the restaurant myself.”Adrian was not having it. More than anger, fear was dominant in his eyes. He had abandoned his eight years of marriage and that cannot certainly be for a cheating and deceitful woman.“You could have ordered it, Camille. Besides, how did you get to the restaurant? The cars were all parked in the garage.”“Of course I couldn't drive, babe!” She cried harder. “Don't you see how big my belly is? I had to ensure safety so I took a cab.”Richard Whitmore was remained in the background of the situation casually remarked, “The daughter-in-law of the Whitmore family takin
Serena's POV I only had time to think through Elliot's contract when Karen had gone on her date. Since the day he demanded that we get married, I've felt different from the way I was, I couldn't discuss the events of that day clearly to Karen and all I could think of is how Elliot thought about me as the useful tool to claim his father's inheritance.I wanted to be mad and angry that he didn't consider other sophisticated ladies because I was easier to fool, but I couldn't be because he was even offering ten million dollars. After Adrian's betrayal, I didn't think I'd be involved with love again. The seven months contract marriage is just the right fit.And my pregnancy?I drew in a sharp breath. Should I tell him? What if he withdraws the offer? Thinking of it now, I stand to gain more from him, a chance to make the Whitmores regret, a social standing as Elliot Vance’s wife and even ten million dollars that could set me and baby up for life.I bit at my fingernails. Since it's on
Before she could complete her sentence, Kelvin had grabbed her waist and locked her lips in his.Finn grinned. He couldn't thank Kelvin enough for his help. Seeing them kissing, Camille had no more doubt. She let Finn take her away. When Karen acted and pushed Kelvin away, Finn and Camille were already exiting the first floor. A hot slap dashed across Kelvin's face.“How dare you!” Karen was mad. She picked up her bag resting on the table and made to leave but Kelvin stopped her.“Get your hands off me!”“Listen, I'm sorry.” Kelvin apologized genuinely. “I had no other choice.”“You definitely did,” she snatched her wrist from his grip, her glare hitting him like daggers. “But you chose to support your friend and deceive that bitch!” Karen chuckled. “I suppose this has revealed Camille's secret to me. I have the power to avenge my friend now!”She made to leave again but was stopped once more by Kelvin.“What did you just say? Did you know Camille before now?”Karen glared at him.
“Camille?” Kelvin's shock was evident in his voice. Camille stood with a hand resting on her protruding belly. She did not look happy.Kelvin hated this but there was no way he could ditch his friend. He quickly gathered his composure. He smiled warmly as he walked up to her. “I didn't know you'd be stopping by today. Have a seat.”“Where's Finn?” Camille snapped almost immediately, it was obvious she did not buy Kelvin's pretense.Kelvin hated this. Since Camille only stepped in a few minutes after Finn left, could she have seen him?Kelvin decided it's best not to lie, so he answered, “He left the house without telling me his destination.”Camille grabbed his arm, she was close to tears. “You're his best friend. You should know.”“Look, Camille it's snowing. You shouldn't have come all the way here in this condition.”Camille's tears burst through just then. “How can I not have come? Finn has been acting weird lately, I never seemed to notice until last night.”She held Kelvin's ga
Finn Vance was in a world of his own. After putting a call to Karen with no response, he got into his car and drove to his apartment. There, his friend, Kelvin was drinking away.“Where have you been, man?” Kelvin asked the moment Finn walked in.Finn sank into the couch and yawned. “Camille is becoming a pain in the neck.”“Camille? Your pregnant girl?”Finn laughed. “She's Adrian Whitmore's now. Once I get my hands on the Whitmore's wealth through my son, I won't have anything to do with any of them again.”“On the contrary, I think you might have hit the jackpot.” Kelvin grinned.“Stop playing with me, man.” Finn hissed. “I wonder how long it will take for Camille to just deliver that baby. I'm losing my mind. She wants to see me all the time!”“I'm not talking about that, Finn.”I cocked my brows.“Your father dropped by. He dropped a file.”I immediately sat up. “My father? What's he looking for? Don't tell me it's an apology note, Kelvin.”Kelvin rose and handed the file to him
