DIANA'S POV

The knife lands on the dummy, nearly reaching Kael's eyes.

My body is shaking. I’m happy I missed it, he didn’t move. He still isn’t moving.

I thought he would. What if I hadn’t missed?

“You are letting fear get the best of you, love.” He isn’t smiling at me. “When you need to protect yourself, you don’t let your emotions rule you, unless your enemies would get to you first.” He drops his hand.

“But I don’t need to protect myself now.”

“But you need to learn how to. Learning it on a dummy won’t help—"

“And practicing it on you won’t help either.” I basically shout at him, hoping he’ll come to his senses. He just stares at me blankly, which strikes my nerves. Fine. If this is how he wants it—

I walk to the dummy and position myself like it. “Practice on me first. Maybe I’ll learn better this way.”

He blinks at me. He opens his mouth to say something, but the look in my eyes shuts him up. He grinds his teeth and nods.
