Chapter 4

Author: Green Pick
As soon as I stepped outside the garden gate, Liam came to me. "Clara has decided to forgive you. You won't have to sleep at a hotel tonight. The guest bedroom is yours."

He spoke with a tone that radiated selflessness. It was as if he expected me to thank him for it.

I turned him down. "No, thanks. I'm just about to leave."

He frowned, unimpressed. "You're leaving? Where do you have to go?"

"I'm going back to Zentara."

A sarcastic laugh escaped from his lips. He thought I was throwing a tantrum.

"Playing hard to get as a way to provoke me, huh? I told you, Clara is my legal wife. I can't just let you take away her place."

We dated for five years and were married for three. For some reason, it only occurred to me then how much of a jerk he was. Now, everything in the past was starting to feel like a joke.

I calmly replied, "My husband's in Zentara. He'll worry if I'm home late."

Liam was stunned. It took him a long while before he found his bearings. Pale and confused, he yanked my wrist and questioned, "You married someone in Zentara?"

I nodded. "You and I both have our own families to go back to. From now on, I'll be out of your life for good."

I struggled out of his grip, but he was surprisingly strong.

"I don't believe you," he responded. "I'm a CEO worth over ten million now. Are you really willing to give that up? Even if you married someone else while you had amnesia, staying here should still be the better choice, isn't it?"

His urgency felt strange and even a little funny to me. I looked at him with a hint of pity.

Thanks to the fortune I left behind, Liam's company had gone public. However, compared to my current husband, it was nothing.

Besides, wealth was never what I truly wanted.

I slowly pried away his hand. "I don't care about these. I only care about the one I love."

His breath hitched. "And what about Lucas? Are you gonna abandon him?"

"I heard Clara's been good to him. From now on, she can be his mother without guilt."

A black Maybach pulled up just in time, and I recognized it instantly as my ride. I broke free from Liam's hold and got in without looking back.

Outside the window, he stood rooted to the spot, his eyes red-rimmed, staring fixedly in the direction I was leaving.

A few days later, Lucas came to see me, holding the ruby bracelet I once gave him. He begged me, saying he didn't know what to do.He was still in elementary school. Ever since the family went bankrupt, no one could support him to continue his studies, let alone participate in the baseball team training. He begged and cried out, "Mommy."In the end, I sighed deeply.Although Clara had led him astray, making him selfish and spoiled, he was still my child. No matter what, I could never truly abandon him. Still, I couldn't let him stay in the Hurrix residence.I instructed the butler to find him a new place to live, assigned people to take care of him, and gave him enough money to support his continued schooling. There was a catch, though. He had to study hard at school. If his grades didn't meet the requirements, I wouldn't continue to provide financial support. With nowhere else to turn, he could only thank me with tears.…In the meantime, news of Liam's imprisonment spread qu

All eyes converged on the stage. In the shadows, a staff member quietly came to remind us that it was time.I had no desire to argue with Liam or the others any longer. Grasping Ethan's hand, I hurried backstage to prepare.Malcolm remained composed as he revealed the truth that he still had a son. Murmurs spread through the crowd. When he loudly announced Ethan's name, Ethan took my hand and led me onto the stage. The moment Liam saw us, his face turned as pale as paper.Ethan, calm and confident, introduced me to everyone as his wife of two years and the rightful representative of Hurrix Corporation. The elite gathered below applauded warmly.Suddenly, a boy's voice rang out from the crowd. "Mommy!"I looked over and saw Lucas. He leaned against the edge of the stage, his eyes red-rimmed, his face filled with regret and desperation.Under everyone's attentive gaze, I simply wore a distant yet polite smile. "I'm not your mommy, kiddo. You must've got the wrong person."…Soon

The first thing I did upon returning to Zentara was to take inventory of the assets I reclaimed from Liam. Only after confirming that all the design drafts were recovered did I finally allow myself to relax.Ethan wrapped his arms around me from behind, his tone rather aggrieved. "Baby, you were gone for so long, and the first thing you did was to look at these papers?"I looked up and gave him a kiss, finally satisfying him."Lucas refused to acknowledge me," I said with a sigh.He kissed my cheek and replied, "That's fine. We can have as many kids as you like. We'll teach them all the proper protocols for loving and protecting their mommy."I broke into a laugh, and the earlier gloom dissipated completely. He hugged my waist and whispered, "Got some good news for you.""What is it?""Dad said there's a banquet next week where he'll officially announce me as the heir to Hurrix Corporation."I stared in surprise, mouth agape.Ethan seemed amused by my reaction and continued, "

Memories seemed to come back to me. Somewhere deep in my mind, Ethan had been a permanent resident. However, the memory was always blurry, shielded by a veil I couldn't quite lift.During that time, Ethan took good care of me. Every day, he patiently described the park's details, but never pushed me too hard. After a while of drawing, he insisted I rest.As I gradually finished the design, the park began to feel more familiar. On the day I completed the last drawing, I added a tiny circle to the bottom right corner of the paper.Excited, I handed him the drawing. Before I could even fully present it, Ethan leaned in and kissed me. That moment marked the day we truly connected. From then on, our relationship blossomed into love.He brought in the best doctors from around the world to treat me, and with the help of many, I finally regained my memories.I remembered the park, the skinny boy, and that very promise. I also remembered my ex-husband and my son.By then, two years had pa

"I've only met her once when we were little," Ethan said, lowering his gaze to the sketch paper on the table. "I wasn't a healthy child—always thin, always sick. The other kids didn't want anything to do with me."His tone was light, like he was recounting something from a lifetime ago. "But she did. She didn't care that I was different. She took my hand and pulled me into her world."A small, nostalgic smile touched his lips. "She loved to draw—in the sand, on paper, anywhere. She'd sketch all these weird little houses with odd shapes, and every time she finished one, she'd draw a tiny circle in the bottom right corner."Something like a signature, a sweet little quirk of hers."I stiffened slightly. That was a habit I had as well. It persisted even after I had amnesia. That was the end of his story. He lightly tapped on the table and reminded, "The coffee's gone cold."I finally snapped out of my daze and quickly lifted my cup to take a sip of coffee. Then, I lowered my head

Liam's mouth was agape. He was genuinely too stunned to speak.Seeing his lack of movement, Clara quizzically asked, "What's wrong, darling? Something off with the contract?"She leaned in to glance at the contract in Liam's hands, only to freeze at the words "Hurrix Corporation".Within seconds, she quickly composed herself and scoffed. "I didn't think you'd be so desperate over a bit of money, Elena. Faking ties to the Hurrixes just to scare us? That's low."Prompted by Clara's words, Liam seemed to snap back to his senses. "Elena, Hurrix Corporation is the pinnacle of the business world. People like you don't even get to sniff that level."Besides, Mr. Hurrix Senior is well into his 70s and has never had any children. Who exactly did you marry? Don't tell me you've become a sugar baby for a dying tycoon."By then, I couldn't be bothered to argue anymore. "It doesn't matter whose name is on the bottom line. The contract is legally binding, so sign it, and we'll be done."Liam
