Tragic

Daniel looked at his phone constantly and watched how agonizing the time was slow. He was supposed to be in the sea doing Grandma's task so at least food will be on their table for the night and morning but there he was at the detention hall doing anything but nothing. He had other looking scrawny kids in the detention hall with him but he didn't give a fuck about them as most of the popular kids are already home and his the only one left behind.

"Maybe if you don't eat your fingers and tap nervously at your desk this place wouldn't be bad at all.” I glared at the kid who was so irritating, he looked to be 15, had his perfectly gelled to the back, and wore glasses. You could tell he was a nerdy one but how he ended up in detention hall was something I don't know and I didn't care to know.

It was already 4:59 pm, it was left one minute and he will be out of the school property, he watched everyone direct their gaze to the big wall clock hanging on the wall opposite Mr. Jones's desk. Daniel followed every tik tok of the clock till it was finally 5:00 pm. He threw his backpack behind his shoulder and dashed out of the detention hall heading for home.

Daniel was running back home, when he reached home he dropped his backpack beside the cottage wall. He was careful enough for his grandparents not to spot him. He removed his school hoodie and placed it on top of his backpack. What he had on was just his white t-shirt on denim trousers neatly folded at the ankle and he made a run for the sea.

His small canoe was lying in the shallow waters anchored to a rock. He unanchored it, entering the small canoe and paddling his way to the deeper waters. He went further and the more further he go into the sea the deeper it was. He had tried casting his fishing net in all levels of water hoping for a catch but he didn't. He felt disappointed, if only he had come earlier he cussed under his breath.

When Daniel realized he hadn't caught anything and night befalling, he decided to take a quick nap and try again in a few hours.

Daniel was lying with his back on the canoe as it rocked him gently, to and fro, then he felt droplets of rain on his face. The sky grumbled with thunderstorms as it went dark completely in an instant.

The strong and mighty wind took over the sea and he was nowhere near home. He couldn't see as everywhere was now peach dark, he had to pick the torchlight that was strapped at the side of the canoe for safety only to realize he had forgotten to charge it as the device had refused to give a bright light. Even with the dim light, the Torchlight was able to offer. Daniel turned his canoe around so it was facing the direction of his home but the Torchlight has knocked off his hands into the sea from a mighty wind that gave the canoe equally a swift movement making Daniel lose his balance on the paddle dropping it too into the sea.

He was stranded, he cried inside of him for someone to come to his rescue then he prepped and talked himself not to believe he was stranded.

He began paddling the canoe to his strength using his hands, but the mighty and turbulent wind was making it impossible for him to move, with the harsh rainfall that blinded one's eyes and made it impossible for him to see through his soaked hair.

"I can't die". Daniel thought to himself coz he felt he was already close to his death.

"Who will take care of my grandparents if I'm gone.” Those were the thought that circled his tiniest mind at that moment he couldn't make a distance with the tide.

Even with his persistence and prayers, it was like it fell on deaf ears. A strong tide washed over Daniel plummeting him into the cold and salty water that felt like ice cubes dropped to the skin. His canoe was already wrecked from the heavy and strong impact of the tide. His breath had been knocked out of his lung. He watched himself continue to sink to the ocean floor and it seems impossible for him to get help as he was too weak at that point to swim to the surface of the waters.

"This was my death". That was the last thought Daniel's mind registered before he closed his eyes and allowed the sea to swallow him.

Alec was your regular merman, he lives a boring life under the sea. Nothing under the sea interests him. All he ever wants was to go on adventures and find new fascinating treasures. The ones the mortals toss into the ocean and see of no relevance were of great treasure to the young merman.

"Come back here now Alec. I forbid you to go anywhere". Alec's dad king Optum and Alec were once again in their heated argument.

"There's a big storm at the surface of the sea, it's dangerous for our kind to be at the surface at this moment". King Optum said in the most gentle tone he could offer. Alec could see the hot steam stream from his ears to depict how angry he was but that didn't bother Alec. Alec felt he should be at the surface of the sea at that point. He knew there were new treasures out there for his picking and it excited him.

"Dad please not now. You know you can't stop me". Alec smirked.

"Why can't you just be like your twin brother, obedient and follows everything that I say". Optum raised his voice once again losing the calm voice he wanted to use and sweet talk Alec into not going for his adventure.

Alec was rummaging through his wardrobe checking out what he needed for his collection to be complete then he realized it will never be complete as humans always come up with new things every day.
