Saving the enemy

Alex chose to be your boring son. That's not what I want for myself". Alec dramatically rolled his eyes at his dad.

"Your tone boy...have you forgotten you're the next in line for the throne after I'm gone. Why are you throwing your future away". Optum shouted bringing some bubbles to Alec's face.

"That's why you have two sons. If I die out there at least you have another son to inherit your throne". Alec said to him equally pissed his dad was against what made him happy. Alec knew his dad was worried about him but he's 18 and he can take care of himself so the young merman thinks.

"Estonian is all yours... it's your destiny to rule this kingdom one day. Everything I did, I did for your good why can't you see that son". Optum brought his hand to Alec's shoulder but he shrugged off his hand.

"I will see you later dad". Alec said swimming out of the palace.

The palace was surrounded by seaweed and all kinds of coral you can imagine with different colors, for one Alec think the corals were looking sick. The sea life felt sick to him as if they were withering away with every passing second.

Alec took one of the corals into his hand, he plucked it from the stem to carefully examine it and maybe administer a cure. The corals should have the deepest shade of purple but they had turned slight orange at the side. Something was going on with the sea life but Alec couldn't have it figured out at least for the moment.

"Well, it's not my problem". Alec thought to himself.

"My dad is the king, he should look after his kingdom". Alec said out loud as he kept on swimming further away from the palace. He was greeted by so many mermen and mermaids but he didn't spare them a glance because his aim was focused on one thing, reaching the surface which he did not less than a few minutes.

As Alec's dad said the tides were really strong, and Alec confirmed it when he got to the surface. it was a big storm and if any human was out in that storm, Alec dare not imagine it all.

Alec swam through the surface of the water searching for anything that will catch his eye. He knew it was dangerous to be swimming at the surface most especially where he can be spotted by humans. Most of them regarded the sea mortals as a myth but the ones that get a chance to meet them, see them as bad luck and wouldn't spare a chance to kill if they get them. They were merman's hunters far back in the years Optum explained to Alec, that's why he can be so worried about Alec whenever the young merman ventures into danger and calls it an adventure

Alec swam to the north part of the sea, he saw a canoe that was wrecked from the heavy impact of the tide. He knew a human was on that canoe and they might have died but he felt he needed to be sure. Alec submerged his head into the saltwater searching for any form of life and he did.

There lying on seaweeds was the most beautiful human he had ever seen. He had hair that almost looked white in color, pale skin, and lips that were red. He swam to the human scooping his head into his arms and lying beside him.

"What should I do in this situation". Alec thought to himself worried. The human was cold and will catch hypothermia if he was still in the cold seawater. The human was running out of breath and the only thing he thought about was this one time his friend Basil helped save this girl by connecting their lips. He breathed air into the girl's lung and swam with her to the shores and left her there, with that the girl was saved.

"I can also do that with this human boy". Alec thought to himself as he didn't wait any seconds longer and connected their lips in a kiss. He pushed the air from his mouth to his lungs then wrapped his torques color tail around his thigh as he dragged him to the surface of the water with their lips still connected and their bodies very close.

Alec swam with the human on the surface of the sea waters. He knew he was taking a big risk but he thought dad wouldn't be worried about that but of how much effort he put into rescuing a human life.

After what felt like 20 minutes Alec swam with the human, with his lips crushing into the human lips looking for land, Alec finally found one, not far away, a few meters away.

Alec carefully dropped the human on the sand disconnecting their lips and slowly moving back into the waters. He was grateful everywhere was peach dark if not he would be spotted by a human, Alec learned they don't see in the dark but Alec can see them as sea mortals see in the darkest of days and shades.

"I know he's going to be safe here and he will get the help he needs". Alec thought to himself now in the deeper part of the water. His whole body was submerged in the water except his head, the water came right to his nose.

"I Will stay here till someone comes and helps him". Alec thought waiting earnestly and people came. They were shouting what looks like a human name. They were old.

"They were his parents". Alec smiled to himself knowing he had saved a human.

"I hope to see you again human". He blushed when he remembered the kiss he shared with the beautiful human. It brought a fuzzy feeling to his heart and stomach.

Daniel up to the soft feeling of the mattress. He wondered how he was able to be on his mattress. Last time if he remembers correctly and his memory doesn't fail him, he was drowning in the sea.

The thought of him drowning just as if it was happening again made him sit up straight from his bed so quickly it frightened his Grandma. She was sitting close to him on his bed dabbing a hot towel on his forehead.

"You're safe". She rushed to calm him down.

"You startled me there you know". She added smiling at him.

"Sorry". Daniel said still feeling uneasy about how he got to be on his bed.

"Who saved me". Daniel thought to himself coz he never expected he will be saved especially in that far part of the sea.

"Why were you lying unconscious by the sand". Grandma asked, clearly looking worried.

Daniel was about to answer but grandpa entered his room. The conversation was put to a halt at that moment as grandpa came to his side and pressed his hands on Daniel's forehead checking his temperature.

"He didn't catch a fever nor a cold". Grandpa smiled.

"How are you feeling son". Grandpa added coming to sit beside grandma on Daniel's bed while Daniel leaned to the headboard of his bed facing them in an opposite direction.

"I'm feeling fine".

"Are you sure"? Grandpa asked worriedly.

"Yes". Daniel smiled to show them he was really fine and they don't have to worry about him.

"Daniel why were you lying on the sand unconscious". Grandma repeated the question she once asked.

Daniel couldn't find a response to give her because he can't even tell how he came to be in the place they found him.

"Grandma I don't know...the last thing I remembered was drowning". Daniel spoke fear lacing his voice.

"Wait to drown". Grandma was shocked.

"Yes...".

"With the bad weather and signs of a storm, you still had to go fishing".

"That was reckless you know and stupid Daniel". Grandpa added equally pissed at Daniel for making such a reckless and stupid decision.

"I'm sorry. I never thought the storm will be that bad and we needed food and the little money the supply was going to get us".

"You don't have to worry about that. Tho we are old we can still take care of you and ourselves. Daniel, you would have died out there if someone hasn't come to your rescue. Do you know how we're going to feel if that were to happen, that you died"? A tear rolled down grandma's cheek.

Daniel knew how she would be feeling, the feeling of guilt of losing a grandson after she lost her daughter and son-in-law in a car accident; The feeling of how poor she was and couldn't afford a better life for his grandson.

"Grandma I'm very sorry... I didn't mean to make you worry". A tear slipped Daniel's eyes and rolled down his cheek.

"Come here". That's what Grandpa could utter as we all came into a bear family hug.

"We love you so much please promise us to think about your decision before acting". Grandma whispered to Daniel's ears.

"Yes Grandma". Daniel pecked her cheek going back to his bed.

"Are you hungry or do you need anything?". Grandma asked standing at the edge of Daniel's door with grandpa.

"No thank you...I have school tomorrow...I will sleep now". Daniel said.

"Goodnight then". Grandma said exiting the door so did grandpa.

Daniel stretched out his hand to the nightlight that stood beside his bed on a table made with bamboo and switched off the light covering his body with the blended darkness of his room.

A feeling came washing all over Daniel, he knew it happened during the time he was saved from the water. He felt goosebumps prick at every inch of his body as a shudder traveled his spine. He brought his hands to his lips, they had felt devoured by another and that feeling was giving him shudders.

"Whoever had rescued me had to have kissed me". Daniel thought to himself.

"I will want to see who saved me". Daniel thought to himself but that seems like an impossible wish that will never come to pass even in the next century.

*****

Daniel was at school early, let's say at least he has to pay back in some way for his life being saved, you can say it's Daniel turning a new leave but he doubts the cham will last.  It's unlike him to come to school that early.

Daniel had to wake up very early in the morning and the thought of waking very early every morning is something he doesn't think he will live up to. He still feels sleepy and every minute now and then he passes a boring yawn as if he never caught sleep the previous night. It was becoming annoying but not for too long when he sets his eyes on Simon.

The red-haired boy had dyed his hair to be black. He was in school early and was just dropped by his mum in her car. Daniel watched the mum drive out of the school packing space before he made his move on Simon.

"He snitched on me yesterday". Daniel thought to himself.

"He deserves what's coming to him now". Daniel added smirking and walking to where the red-haired boy sat waiting for other students to start coming to school.

"Even if you dye your hair black. You're still the red hair boy I know...you will always look pathetic". Daniel grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and slammed him to the opposite wall.

"Ooo". He winced from the impact of the wall.

"What did I do to you this morning to deserve such ill-treatment from you". Simon frowned

"Oh don't you remember". Daniel glared at him slamming him one more time to the wall.

"Does that jog your memory"? He added.

"If you hadn't slammed me to Lockers yesterday we would have made it to class in time but the only difference now is you're slamming me to walls". Simon said out of a short breath.

"And to think of it your face is unreasonably close". Simon smirked.

"Because I'm trying to teach you your place". Daniel glared some more trying to make him coward around him.

"No, it's because you're gay".

"Daniel I know you're gay". Simon smirked.
