Katherine's POV

"Where are you coming from?" Dominic barked the second I stepped into the house.

I glanced over at the clock—it was almost 11:00 PM. I had intentionally stayed late at the office, drowning myself in work because any place was more peaceful than this gilded cage.

"I'm coming back from the office," I told him, setting my handbag onto the sofa and looking around the foyer.

"Look at me when I'm speaking to you!" he snapped, taking a long, threatening stride toward me.

Katherine's POV"Who did that to you?" I asked, my voice dropping as I pointed straight at her arm.Tyla froze. She looked down at her bruised wrist, then snapped her gaze back to mine, her eyes wide with sudden panic."It's nothing, ma'am," she stammered, pulling her sleeve down in a frantic motion."Tyla, your wrist is badly bruised. That's not a scratch," I pushed, stepping out from behind my desk."I... I hurt myself by mistake," she lied, her voice shaking. She bowed her head tightly. "Excuse me, ma'am," she whispered respectfully, turning on her heel and practically bolting out of the office before I could say another word.I stood there in silence, watching the door close behind her. I knew she was lying. The jagged, dark impression on her skin was unmistakably the grip of a heavy, furious hand."Could it be her sugar daddy that did that to her?" I thought to myself, a bitter knot twisting in my stomach."Okay, now I sound like Janice, prying into everyone's business". I forced

Katherine's POV"Good morning, my beautiful wife," Dominic said as I slowly opened my eyes."Good morning," I replied, still groggy. He leaned down and pressed a warm kiss to my lips."Get ready for work and come down for breakfast, okay?" he said with a bright, charming smile before turning and leaving the room in exceptionally high spirits."Wow," I blurted out to the empty room, completely taken aback.I took a quick shower, dressed for the office, and headed downstairs to the dining room."Good morning, ma'am," the domestic staff greeted in unison as I walked in."Morning, everyone," I responded, setting my handbag on one of the dining chairs. "Where's my husband?""Actually, he's.." Kyla attempted to answer, but Dominic's voice interrupted her."Breakfast is ready, babe," he announced proudly. Two maids followed right behind him, carrying covered dishes and setting the table."I cooked for you," he beamed, stepping forward to pull out a chair for me."Wow," I murmured,

"Hi, baby."Dominic’s voice echoed into my ear as I slowly opened my eyes. "Good morning, sleeping beauty.""Good morning," I responded, rubbing the sleep from my eyes while my mind raced to catch up with reality."Is that the way you greet the husband you haven't seen for close to forty-eight hours?" His tone dipped into familiar anger, the sharp edge instantly making my posture stiffen."I didn't mean it that way. I just woke up, and I was actually surprised to see you. I wasn't expecting you this morning," I said quickly, sitting up and pulling the sheet to my chest."Well, I cut the business trip short. The other party didn't show up. They claimed their flight was delayed, and I was furious. They could have made better provisions—you know I don't joke with business." He unbuttoned his shirt, pulling it off and tossing it onto the foot of the bed."I'm so sorry to hear that," I murmured, keeping my tone carefully measured."It's in the past now. Come give daddy a hug," he said, ope

Katherine's POV"Are you coming or not?" he asked, his voice low and steady in the dark.Hesitating for a long heartbeat, I slowly shifted across the small floor, moving over to sit beside him."That wasn't so hard, was it?" he murmured, a faint smirk in his tone."Why did you want me beside you anyway?" I asked, staring up at him through the dim, amber glow of the phone screen."I don't know... maybe I just missed being this close to you," he admitted softly."How ironic," I said, even as my treacherous heart fluttered wildly against my ribs."You sure know how to act like you don't want something," he noted, his dark eyes locking onto mine.I rolled my eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about, Ethan."Before I could blink, he shifted closer, his hand rising to cup my jaw. The warmth of his palm against my skin sent a violent shiver down my spine, and completely paralyzed, I didn't stop him."You really don't know what I'm talking about?" he asked, his thumb gently bru

Katherine's POV "What the hell?" I gasped as the elevator lights suddenly began to flicker overhead, causing the cabin to grind to a harsh halt. "What's happening?" Ethan asked, pressing his hand against the control panel, but none of the floor buttons responded. "Oh my God, we're stuck," I said, a wave of cold panic hitting my chest as I stared at the sealed doors. "Take it easy. I'm sure it's just a minor technical glitch," he said calmly. "They're probably working on it right now." I ignored him, tapping frantically at my screen. "There's no service at all," I blurted out, my anxiety spiking. "Check your phone. Maybe you have service." He gave me a dry look. "I didn't even know you knew I existed, Katherine." "Just check your phone, please," I snapped, my voice shaking. He pulled his device out and shook his head. "No service," he said, waving the black screen at me. "What are we going to do?" I cried, my breathing turning shallow. "Why on earth must I be stuck in

Katherine's POV"Your car?" I asked her, still visibly shocked."Yes, ma'am," she said, walking toward me with a file in her hand."Is that really your car?" I pressed, needing to hear it again."Yes, ma'am," she said, a bright smile crossing her face. "I just got it yesterday.""Wow, Tyla," I murmured, scrambling to comport myself and swallow the rising tide of suspicion. "Congratulations.""Thank you, ma'am. I'll go back in now," she said politely, turning away.I stood there in a daze, watching her walk off. I decided right then to force myself not to overthink it. After all, I reasoned, at eighteen, I owned a Ferrari. Maybe she comes from money or hit some crypto boom.I walked into the office building, but as I passed her cubicle a little later, my eyes snagged on another brand-new luxury handbag resting neatly on her desk. I deliberately forced myself to look away and push it out of my mind. It's definitely not my business, I told myself. After an excruciatingly long da

I rushed downstairs without even glancing in a mirror, my heart hammering against my ribs. My legs shook as we climbed the private stairs into the executive box, taking our seats. Ethan sat right in the middle, with Janice to his left and me to his right. How did I not know who he was?I was completely speechless as the game started. The players from both schools skated onto the ice, a

I don't care who you are. Just watch where you're going next time," I snapped, turning on my heel and marching toward the exit.Janice scrambled to follow right behind me. I had spent extra hours glamming up today. It was my two-year anniversary with my boyfriend, Ashton. I clutched my bag, my heart doing little flips at the thought of kissing him on the lips.I spun my locker humming joyfully as I turned the lock.A picture fell out of my locker. I picked it up,
