Ledger's POV

The rest of the practice progressed smoothly and by the time we were done, I was almost sad to see it end.

Cassie was still flushed when Dorothy stepped back, brushing her hands together like she’d just wrapped up some grand project.

“Alright, with this I can guarantee that you won't be hopeless on the dance floor,” Dorothy said, her voice even.

I grinned. She was back to being the icy everyone knew her as.

Dorothy gave Cassie that dry, knowing smile. “You’re actually better than you think. Your footwork’s sharp. You just need to stop thinking so much.”

“She overthinks everything,” I added, smirking.

“I don't even want to hear that, coming from you.” Cassie shot back just as I had expected. “Mr. I-Plan-Our-Matching-Outfits-A-Week-In-Advance.”

I blinked. “That is slander. I only plan three days ahead.”

She shot me a smug look. “Exactly.”

“She’s got you there.” Sebastian said, laughing lightly.

Dorothy raised an unimpressed brow. “Alright, lovebirds. Practice on your own n

Author's POV It was finally D-Day. Ledger drove Cassie to school as usual, but they had gone their separate ways much earlier with Ledger running off to join the team for practice after placing a quick kiss on her lips.He had only driven a short distance when he stopped then reversed. “Wait—We’re heading in the same direction, Cassie!”She laughed having realized it the same time he did. “I forgot I'm the team's reporter now.”Without wasting time, she hopped into the car and Ledger zoomed off.It didn't take long for them to arrive at the rink. They were one of the first few people to arrive. Ledger and Cassie took their seats on the bleachers.“This is great! We have some time to ourselves before the meeting begins.” Ledger said eagerly, pulling Cassie onto his lap, she wrapped her arms around his neck.“You are up against Winston College this time, Ledger.” She said with a pointed look. “They won't be easy to beat.”“Don't worry, Cassie. We've won the Monarch Cup three years in

Cassie's POV There was something else I was curious about. “Before we begin, you said Alison told you guys about me?” My gaze flickered between the couple.“She did.” Dorothy answered.I held my breath. “Everything?”“Everything.” She answered coolly. My heart sank. “I see.”“Wait, Alison did?” Ledger asked, frowning.Dorothy cast him a withering glare. “I know the whole thing with Fallon didn't turn out the way you had hoped, but I can't believe you kept this from me.”“You involved Father…”“Only because she was digging into the company.” Dorothy cut in angrily. She sharply faced me. “You haven't been looking into the secrets of the company's business, have you?”I shot her a pointed look. “I wouldn't say yes even if I was.” Dorothy rolled her eyes, turning her attention back to Ledger. “You certainly have a type.”I flinched at that, but Dorothy wasn't done. “I warned you several times that something about her didn't seem right, but you ignored me until it was almost too late.”

Cassie's POV“Why won't you tell me where we're going?” I queried, getting annoyed. He glanced sideways at me, smirking. “I told you. It's a surprise.”“I'm not sure I like surprises.” I muttered.Ledger was lost in thought for a moment. Probably pondering my words. Almost all the surprises I had received till date had been bad. It had put me off enjoying surprises.Ledger nodded. “Fine. I'm gonna help you love surprises once more, but this time… I'll tell you.” He paused for dramatic effect causing me to roll my eyes.“Just get on with it.”He chuckled. “Dorothy owns a dance studio, that's where we're going.”Huh? “A dance studio? What are we going to do there?” I asked unwittingly.“Because of the masquerade ball, Monroe. It includes a dance, remember?” He asked with a pointed look.“Oh.”I had indeed forgotten. That explained his instruction to put on something flexible. I shook my head, frowning. “Wait, Dorothy owns a dance studio?”Ledger nodded. “Yup.”“Does your Dad know ab

Cassie's POV “So, what's up?” I asked Ledger as soon as we were seated in the team's locker room. Thankfully it was empty.Ledger ran a hand through his hair, releasing a deep sigh. “It’s Otto. He’s been picking fights since practice started. The checks, the comments. I tried to ignore it. Then he aimed low, literally.” “So, you punched him again?” I asked.“He keeps getting on my nerves these days.” Ledger admitted. “I mean… the cheap hits during practice were one thing, but the kiss stunt? Nah. That was him marking territory.”I frowned. “What territory? I'm not a sidewalk.”He gave me a look. “You know what I mean. He's jealous.”“Jealous?” I repeated. “Of what?”Ledger turned slightly, meeting my eyes. “Of us.”I blinked. “Us?”Then I scoffed. “That seems unlikely.”“It’s clear. He had you, treated you like trash, then you moved on. Now you’re happy, and he can’t stand it.”I rolled my eyes. “Funny how his interest magically reappears once I stop crying over him.”“He thought yo

Author's POVWhitney's Café was full to the brim. Students were everywhere… at tables, leaned against counters, waiting on orders, but mostly just watching. The energy was loud, casual, and buzzing with one shared curiosity: what would Ledger and Cassie do today? The buzz around them had grown every day since they announced their run for Masquerade Monarch. From surprise interviews to short-form content, they had pulled off something new every single lunch break. At this point, the whole student body had started treating Whitney's like a live stage.“Any idea as to what the it-couple has in store for us today?” Someone asked, eyeing the center of the café where something was hidden beneath a large covering. Curious eyes flickered to the object every once in a while. Yesterday, it was the ‘Guess the Couple’ game—a chaotic round of pair-matching based on three-word clues, most of which were inside jokes. “No idea,” came the reply. “Two days ago it was the QR code sleeves.
