MasukPaige couldn’t believe what she just saw.
Her mouth was left open for a while.
She tilted her head the other way like she didn’t care.
The whole students were shocked. I guessed the entire school believed our relationship now.
The entire cafeteria was buzzing with whispers.
“Aaron Briggs kissed her!”
“Since when were they dating?”
I could hear all these from the group of students whose eyes were focused on us.
I looked at Aaron, he stayed calm holding my hand like nothing ever happened, his fingers firm around mine like this was normal.
Before I could do anything, Aaron tightened his grip on my hand and we both walked out of the cafeteria.
We walked into an empty class and we shut the door behind us.
I released my hand from his grip, my fingers tingling slightly.
“You kissed me without warning,” I snapped at him, my heart still beating faster than normal.
“Relax,” Aaron said with a shrug.
“We wanted them to believe it right? That was the best way.” He said, leaning on a table.
Aaron stepped closer, lowering his voice.
“You know, you looked really good back there. Everyone staring, the whispers, I didn’t expect to feel this way either.”
Heat rose to my cheeks.
“What way?”
He smirked.
“Like I want to kiss you again.”
My breath hitched slightly.
Before I could answer, he leaned in, just close enough for me to feel the warmth of his lips brushing mine, teasing, making my stomach flip.
Then, without really thinking about it, I kissed him back.
It only lasted a moment.
But it was enough to make Aaron pause.
When we pulled apart, his eyes searched mine, surprised.
“Well,” he said softly, a hint of amusement in his voice, “that wasn’t the reaction I expected.”
My heart was racing, and I immediately stepped back, trying to regain my composure.
“Don’t misunderstand,” I said quickly. “That was just part of the act.”
Aaron raised an eyebrow.
“In an empty classroom?” he asked as he smirked.
I crossed my arms defensively, even though my pulse hadn’t settled.
“Practice.”
For a second he just stared at me.
Then something shifted in his expression.
“Practice?” he repeated quietly.
Before I could say anything else, he stepped closer again.
This time he didn’t rush. His hand moved to the edge of the desk beside me, trapping me between him and the table without actually touching me.
The closeness alone made my breath uneven.
“You’re a terrible liar, Allison,” he murmured.
My heart started beating faster.
“Aaron…”
But he was already leaning in again.
His lips met mine a second time, slower this time, like he was testing how far I would let him go.
For a moment I froze.
Then my fingers curled slightly against the edge of the desk as I kissed him back again.
The kiss lasted longer this time. Long enough for my thoughts to completely disappear.
When we finally pulled apart, Aaron looked at me differently now, less teasing, more curious.
“Still practice?” he asked softly.
My chest rose and fell as I tried to steady my breathing.
“Yes,” I said quickly, even though my voice wasn’t as confident as before.
Aaron let out a quiet chuckle.
“Good,” he said, straightening up.
Then he added with a small smile,
“Because if that was practice, the contest is going to be very interesting.”
Then a slow smile spread across his face.
The type of smile that made him effortlessly charming.
“I’ll take you home,” he said casually.
I frowned slightly. “You don’t have to.”
Aaron glanced at me with a small smile.
“Come on,” he said. “You don’t think I’ll let my girlfriend walk home alone, do you?”
Aaron walked toward the classroom door, opening it before looking back at me.
“So,” he said, tilting his head slightly, “can I give you a ride home or are you planning to keep pretending I don’t exist outside school?”
I sighed and grabbed my bag.
“Fine,” I muttered as I walked past him.
Aaron’s quiet laugh followed behind me as we stepped into the hallway.
His black Mercedes was parked near the front.
Aaron walked ahead and opened the passenger door for me.
I paused.
“You’re really committed to this whole ‘fake boyfriend’ role,” I said.
He leaned casually against the door.
“I told you,” Aaron replied with a small, confident smile.
“If we’re going to do this, we should do it properly.”
Aaron closed the door, walked around, and got back behind the wheel.
The car pulled smoothly back onto the road.
For a moment, silence filled the car, but it didn’t feel as comfortable as before.
Aaron broke the silence, glancing my way.
“You’re awfully quiet today. Did I scare my girlfriend already?”
I gave him a small smirk.
“Scared? Not even close. Just getting used to the idea of being seen with you.”
He laughed quietly. “Good. Because you’re stuck with me for a while.”After a moment, Aaron glanced at me.
Before I could say anything, Aaron’s phone rang.
He glanced at the screen.
The relaxed expression on his face disappeared instantly.
He answered the call.
“Hello?”
A pause.
His grip on the steering wheel tightened.
“What do you mean he’s injured?” he said sharply.
My head turned toward him.
Aaron’s voice dropped lower.
“Where is he now?”
Another pause.
Then he said quietly,
“I’m coming.”
He ended the call.
For the first time since I met him, Aaron didn’t look confident or teasing.
He looked tense.
The air in the car shifted, heavier.
“Aaron?” I asked slowly.
He kept his eyes on the road.
“It’s Ethan,” he said after a moment.
I frowned.
“Who’s Ethan?”
Aaron didn’t answer.
He just pressed harder on the accelerator, the car speeding down the road
.
And suddenly, I had the strange feeling that I had just stepped into something much bigger than a fake relationship.
*Aaron's POV* The city lights streaked past the window as I drove through the quiet streets.I wasn't thinking about Ethan.Or DNA results.Or family secrets.I was thinking about Allison. My fingers tightened slightly around the steering wheel.A few months ago, I would have laughed if someone told me a girl would become this important to me.Yet here I was.Thinking about her smile. The way she laughed at my terrible jokes. The way she somehow managed to make even my worst days feel lighter.I exhaled slowly. At one point, I had considered creating some distance. Not because I wanted to.Because I thought it would protect her.My life wasn't simple. It never had been.Between family expectations, the investigation, and everything waiting to explode around me, part of me had wondered if Allison would be better off without being dragged into it.But tonight had made one thing painfully clear.I didn't want distance.I wanted her.Simple.Complicated at the same time.Annoying.Perfec
The air instantly felt heavier.Paige jumped forward, voice sugary and poisonous. “Aaron, I saw the whole thing. Liam basically attacked her, but honestly, Allison didn’t seem to mind it at first. She’s been playing both of you...”“Shut up, Paige,” Aaron cut her off coldly, not even sparing her a glance. She froze.humiliated written all over her.I stepped closer to him, speaking fast. “Aaron, Liam followed me out here. He confessed he likes me and said I deserve better than you. I told him to back off and stop interfering, but he grabbed me and kissed me anyway. I slapped him. Paige was hiding and recording everything.” I let out a sigh after narrating everything. My chest felt heavy.Aaron’s jaw clenched hard. His eyes dimmed with cold fury as he looked at Liam. For a heartbeat, the corridor was dead silent. Then he snapped his fingers sharply toward the end of the hall where a couple of guys from our school were lingering.“Yo. Come here. Now.” he snapped. Two tall guys appea
Allison's POVThe party was somehow louder than when we'd arrived.I didn't even know how that was possible.Music pulsed through the hall.Colored lights swept across the ceiling.Students crowded around tables, dance floors, photo booths, and every corner they could possibly occupy.Parkview students truly had a talent for turning every event into chaos.I stood beside Aaron, sipping my drink while watching a group of boys nearly knock over a decorative stand."Five seconds," I muttered.Aaron glanced over."What?""Five seconds before something breaks." I replied.A loud crash echoed from the other side of the room.I pointed."There."Aaron followed my gaze. Then laughed. His attention shifted toward the entrance.A group of Student Council members were heading our way.The moment I saw their matching badges, I already knew what was coming.Aaron clearly knew too.His expression immediately became annoyed."Uh oh."He sighed."Can they just not disturb me today.""They found you.
As I stepped out of the café, my mind kept drifting to the text. What did Liam plan on saying now?"I shouldn't be worried," I muttered, rubbing my face with my palms. Finally, I pulled out my phone and typed back."Yeah. For a few minutes."I slipped the phone back into my pocket and continued walking. My thoughts drifted to the party tonight. What I would wear.Who would be there. What kind of chaos Parkview students would manage to create without teachers around."Ugh."I groaned as I turned onto my street. The Student Council was organizing it.That meant freedom. And freedom at Parkview usually meant trouble.By the time I got home, the sun was already beginning its slow descent. After a quick shower, I stood in front of my closet. And stared. And stared. And stared some more. Why did choosing an outfit suddenly feel like a life-or-death decision?I pulled out one dress.Rejected it.Then another.Rejected that too.A third one.Still no.My bedroom door opened. My mother peeked
Allison's POVThe moment I stepped through the front door, my mother looked up from the dining table and narrowed her eyes. Not suspiciously.Knowingly.I froze. She froze. Then a slow smile spread across her face."Oh."I immediately pointed at her."No.""No what?""Whatever you're thinking." I said. She laughed."I'm not thinking anything.""You are."She laughed.I dropped my bag onto a chair."Mum.""Allison."The innocent look on her face was completely fake.I knew it.She knew I knew it.Yet she kept going."Why are you smiling like that?" She asked.I touched my face."I wasn't smiling."She raised an eyebrow."Sweetheart, you've been smiling since you walked through the door."I groaned."Can I at least sit down first?""Maybe."I shook my head, fighting back a laugh.Home.Simple.Small.Comfortable.Nothing like Aaron's mansion.Yet somehow it always made me feel warm inside.Dinner that night was peaceful. The smell of fried rice filled the house while the television play
I turned from Ethan's bookshelf and walked toward her.She was standing beside the dresser, her golden-brown hair falling over one shoulder as she stared down at something hidden behind a row of neatly arranged grooming products."What is it?" I asked.Instead of answering, she stepped aside. My eyes landed on the object.A comb.Simple.Ordinary.But caught between its teeth were several strands of hair. For a second, I didn't move.I just stared. Then my heart started beating faster."No way."Allison's eyes widened."That's useful, right?"Useful? It was more than useful. It was exactly what I had been looking for.A grin spread across my face before I could stop it.The first real grin I'd had in days."You have no idea."Carefully, I picked it up.The room suddenly felt brighter.Lighter.Weeks of frustration, dead ends, and unanswered questions finally felt worth it.I reached into my investigation folder and pulled out a small evidence bag.My movements were careful as I transf
