Chapter 2 After Their Deaths

Author: Heroic Thief
When I came to, someone had fished me out of the sea. Sophia, my sister-in-law, covered me with a blanket. She was still shuddering from the fall. "You scared me, Bianca. Are you sure this will work?"

"It will."

Sophia and I traveled to a seaside town in the south and bought a villa. We turned it into a bed and breakfast business.

At the same time, the Lawson brothers were still looking for us. She was a little uneasy. "They're going all in on this. Look at the reward they're promising. What if someone does find us and turns us in for money?"

"Nah. Charlie already has a daughter out there, and Christopher has a mistress. This is all for their company's image. I bet Lorelei's going to be released in a couple of days, and she's the 'mastermind' here."

Gossip flew everywhere. The Lawson brothers sent out a lot of people to look for us after we fell into the sea. The guests on the ship saw everything, and the cops took Lorelei away quickly. She was pale as paper and kept saying she was innocent.

Christopher glared at her with hatred, but I knew it was fake. There were no cameras nearby, and even though he did see Lorelei push us into the sea, he'd forge evidence for his lover.

Sophia's concern was unfounded. All I said was the truth, and as I'd predicted, Lorelei was released after 48 hours. I saw traces of fear on her face when she got out. A group of bodyguards stood around her, and no one could get more of her pictures.

Sophia went into a tirade. "Are they fucking blind? For Charlie, I can understand! We've been married for more than a decade. He neglects me and has a daughter out there because he lost his feelings for me, but Christopher? You guys have only been married for three years, and he's already sick of you?"

I did not look happy at all. Sophia patted the back of my hand. "Out with the old, in with the new. There are plenty of men out there! And we're rich. We have a lot of options. I saw some sexy models going into the bar over there. Let's check them out tonight."

That lifted my mood. "Yeah, let's get into romance again."

Sophia and I exchanged a smile. Small towns were the best. Life was slow, and we'd get a lot of tourists when that season came.

Tons of hot guys swarmed the street's nightclubs. Quality men, all of them. When I got into the club the first time, I was almost blinded by how flashily beautiful the men were. Sophia almost refused to go back. She dragged me around to flirt with the guys. The woman even went after the club's owner.

Three days later, she figured out his whole profile and tried to play matchmaker for me. I stopped her. "I don't mind having fun. We're both rich now, so best not fall for anyone."

Sophia patted my head. "I'm already forty. More than half of my life is gone, so I don't care about marriage anymore, but you're still young. Don't give up on marriage just because one asshole hurt you. Find someone who'll treat you nicely."

Yeah, I know she had a point, but first, we had to deal with our business problems. It was tourist season, and the rooms were all full every single day. I got a big client too. They booked for a whole month. Two guys, and they paid us 15 grand.

I laughed happily and went with Sophia to get some groceries and necessities. Two guys. I asked, "Wonder if they're a couple, Sophia. What if they get too rowdy?"

Christopher took a deep breath. "And our competitors were trying to take us down. Charlie and I were working our butts off, and we broke our bodies thanks to that. You ladies ignored us when we came to you. And you were flirting with those men. Unbelievable."I was already close to forgiving Christopher. "Well, you didn't tell us you guys booked a room.""And risk you escaping me again? Charlie even gave you guys 15 million in case you ran out of money. You ladies didn't notice that?"No, we didn't. We put all our money in an account abroad and had a trust fund manager handle it for us. And also, I was having the time of my life, so I didn't care much about anything else.Sophia swore up and down that we had enough money and that we should spend as generously as we could. I had no idea Charlie gave us more money.Christopher pinched my cheek. "I gave you money too, but you didn't even notice. I can't believe you'd bite me the moment we met. And you went club hopping with those esc

I was in no hurry. As long as I received the money, I was good. However, Christopher got home from work and said nothing about the money. I wondered if he knew about it. He would have come to me if he had. He'd defend his precious little Lorelei. If he didn't, I'd be talking to him. Dinner came. Christopher told the chef to make my favorite food, and he was earnest about it. That was confusing, but then I realized what he was getting at. He was trying to get back in my good graces. Then, I received an apology text from Lorelei and a public apology on social media, which left me surprised.Christopher said slowly, "Now, are you happy? I didn't have an affair with her. I only gave her the ring because she was an ambassador for the company's jewelry. I thought she had that air about her, so I gave her a fake. I had a gem cutter polish and cut your diamond, but she took a liking to it."She grabbed it and said she would make it into a mainline product, so I said nothing about it.""

Christopher had exhausted all the goodwill I had for him. I came back with the food and put it on his nightstand. I'd gotten some for Sophia, too.Christopher looked at me. "I asked Lorelei to explain herself. Did she?"I nodded. "Yes, and so what?""Nothing. Now you trust that I'm loyal, don't you?" He put my hand on his chest, and I snickered. I brushed his question aside and took a table for him. He could feed himself.Christopher took the inch and ran a whole mile. "I'm a patient. Can you feed me?""Don't push it, Christopher!" I gave him a look.He slowly sat up and, with a trembling hand, carefully scooped up the soup and fed himself. The second spoonful dribbled down his shirt, and the third splashed all over the table. Yeah, I had enough.I snatched the spoon and fed him, and he happily swallowed the food. "You're the best, honey. I knew you wouldn't just stand by.God, he was insufferable. "Christopher, I'm only helping you because we are technically still married, but

Sophia and Charlie came out. They saw how white Christopher was, and they panicked. Charlie quickly took his brother to the hospital, and we followed. He noticed how worried I was, and he said, "You care about Christopher.""I just don't want him to die in my villa. Sophia and I worked hard on it, and I won't let you two ruin it."She snorted. "You'd better agree to the divorce, or I'm going to tell the whole world what you did, Charlie."His face fell, and he clutched his chest, his eyes closed. I panicked. "So, they're both going to pass out in our villa?"Charlie fell down, and Sophia screamed, "Charlie!"We scrambled to take them to the hospital. Christopher had a stomach ulcer, while Charlie had a myocardial infarction. They were hooked to IVs, and Christopher looked a little better. The doctor said the ulcer was widespread thanks to Christopher's erratic eating. If he kept this up, it would turn into stomach cancer.Charlie had to undergo surgery, and it took three hour

I took a deep breath. Since he wanted a chance, I crossed my arms and put some distance between us. "Fine, explain yourself. Let's see if you can spin this in your favor. Did you give Lorelei that ring?"Christopher fell silent, and I laughed. Well, it was on me to hold on to a sliver of hope. He was all lies, Christopher. "Save it. You've as good as answered the question." I shoved him away and came to the door.Sophia came out, and she held my hand. Charlie caught up to her. Fiercely, Sophia said, "I don't care about your explanation, Charlie. That daughter of yours is real. You've seen the picture. She looks just like you! You can't deny it!""And you!" I looked at Christopher. "You confess that you gave Lorelei that ring. You knew that was my collection, and it represents our third-year anniversary! I was going to make some jewelry and sleeve buttons out of it, but you ruined it."Furious, I grabbed Sophia's hand tightly. "I'm getting a divorce. What about you, Sophia?""Me

And I was caught immediately. "Where are you going, honey?""I can't believe you, Sophia!" Charlie grabbed Sophia. Naturally, Christopher was holding me.The Lawson brothers were here. Mr. Quincy tried to come to our aid, but they bought him over with money. The club owner and his bodyguards left. I was struggling the whole way, and I was sobering up.They took us back to the villa, and to my horror, they easily cracked the passcode. "What are you doing?"Charlie told Christopher, "You deal with your wife, while I deal with mine."He was going to take Sophia upstairs, and I panicked. "Let Sophia go!"Christopher pulled me back. "I think you should worry about yourself first." He dragged me to a room upstairs, but I shoved him away."I have nothing to say to you. I'm dead, and we're done! I'm the owner of a bed and breakfast, while you are trespassing on my property!"He laughed mirthlessly and untied his necktie with one hand. Shit, how could someone be so hot?I could see the
