Mandy didn’t go home that night.

The thought of facing Jessica, who had a short temper, or her grandma, who’d be full of questions, was too overwhelming. Her chest felt tight, and her head was spinning with fear and confusion.

So instead, she got into her car and turned in a different direction.

Aiden’s place.

She didn’t even text ahead. She just drove there quietly, the city lights passing her like a blur, her heart racing faster.

When she arrived, she hesitated in the driveway. What will Aiden say if she just showed up like this?

Still, she got out and rang the doorbell.

But it wasn’t Aiden who opened the door, it was Alina.

She was smiling at first, but that faded quickly when she saw Mandy. Her eyes were red and swollen like she’d been crying a river.

"Mandy?" she asked softly, eyes widening. "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"

Mandy didn’t answer, her throat felt tight. She stepped inside as Alina moved aside for her, and they walked in silence to the living room area.
