Lila POV

"What I want," Derek said slowly, his voice dripping with dark satisfaction, "is very simple."

I stood there frozen, my papers still stuck to his wet chest like my secrets were literally glued to him. The hallway felt like it was closing in around me. This couldn't be happening. This couldn't be real.

"You're going to be my girlfriend," Derek announced casually, like he was talking about the weather.

My brain stopped working completely.

"WHAT?" I choked out, my voice cracking like a broken whistle.

Derek's evil smile grew wider as he watched me fall apart in front of him. "You heard me perfectly, Lila Richmond. You're going to be my girlfriend. We're going to hold hands, go on dates, kiss in the hallways. The whole show."

"Are you insane?" I gasped, backing away from him like he had just grown horns. "I would never in a million years be your girlfriend! I hate you! Everyone knows I hate you!"

"Do they?" Derek asked, tilting his head like a predator studying its prey. "Because from where I'm standing, it looked like you were just fantasizing about my body. Your eyes were closed, your lips were parted, you looked like you wanted me to kiss you right here, right now."

My face exploded into flames of humiliation. "I was NOT thinking about you! I was thinking about-"

I stopped myself just in time, but Derek's eyes lit up with wicked understanding.

"About your stepbrother," he finished for me. "You were imagining it was Ryan standing here half-naked, weren't you? God, you really are messed up."

Tears burned my eyes. This was torture. Pure evil torture.

"Here's what's going to happen," Derek continued, completely ignoring my obvious distress. "You're going to pretend to be madly in love with me. You're going to write those sexy stories about me instead of your stepbrother. And in return, I'll keep your disgusting little secret safe."

"I won't do it," I whispered, my voice shaking. "I can't do it."

Derek shrugged and started to peel another one of my papers off his chest. "Fine. Then I guess everyone's going to find out that sweet, innocent Lila Richmond has been writing detailed sexual fantasies about her own stepbrother's body."

He cleared his throat and began to read out loud: "Ryan's muscles rippled as he-"

"STOP!" I screamed, lunging forward to cover his mouth with my hands. "Please don't! Please!"

Derek grabbed my wrists gently but firmly, holding my hands against his face. His skin was warm and his eyes were staring directly into mine. For a moment, we were so close I could feel his breath on my fingers.

"Then say yes," he whispered against my palms. "Say you'll be my girlfriend, and I'll keep your secret forever."

I felt trapped, cornered, completely helpless. If he told anyone about my stories, my life would be over. My family would disown me. I'd be expelled from school. Everyone would think I was a sick freak.

"Why?" I asked desperately. "Why do you want me to be your fake girlfriend? You could have any girl in school!"

Derek's expression changed for just a moment. Something flickered in his eyes - something that looked almost vulnerable. But then the cocky mask slipped back into place.

"Let's just say it would solve some problems for both of us," he said mysteriously.

"For how long?" I asked, feeling my resistance crumbling.

"Until I say it's over," Derek replied. "Those are my terms. Take them or leave them."

I closed my eyes and felt my world tilt sideways. I was about to agree to be fake girlfriend to my worst enemy. The boy who had just destroyed Ryan's dreams. The boy who was now destroying mine.

"Fine," I whispered, the word tasting like poison in my mouth. "I'll do it."

Derek's triumphant smile was absolutely blinding. "Perfect. We start tomorrow. And Lila?"

"What?" I asked miserably.

"You better make it convincing. Because if anyone suspects we're faking it, our deal is off and your secrets go public."

He released my wrists and stepped back, finally handing me my soggy papers. But as I reached for them, our fingers brushed and I felt an unexpected jolt of electricity shoot up my arm.

What the hell was that?

"Sweet dreams, girlfriend," Derek said with a wink, then walked away whistling like he didn't have a care in the world.

I stood there holding my ruined papers, feeling like I had just made a deal with the devil himself. My hands were still tingling from where he had touched me, and I hated myself for noticing how good he smelled up close.

"This is a nightmare," I muttered to myself. "An absolute nightmare."

But as I started walking toward the exit, trying to process what had just happened to my life, I stopped dead in my tracks.

Two people were kissing passionately against the wall near the main entrance. The girl was blonde and perfect, her hands tangled in the guy's hair. And the guy...

My heart stopped beating.

Those shoulders. That hair. That perfect profile that had haunted my dreams for three years.

Ryan. The papers fell from my numb fingers as I watched my stepbrother kiss another girl like she was his salvation.

But when the blonde girl turned her head slightly, I saw her face.

And my blood turned to ice.

I knew that face. I knew those cruel blue eyes and that perfect smile.

It was the face of my worst nightmare.

Lila POVThe kiss lasted maybe five seconds before reality crashed back into me like a wave of ice water.I pulled away from Ryan so abruptly that I stumbled backward, my hand flying to my mouth."I cannot," I gasped. "Ryan, I cannot do this."Ryan stood there breathing hard, his eyes wide and confused. "Lila—""No," I said firmly, shaking my head. "This is wrong. We cannot do this. We are stepsiblings, Ryan. This is exactly the kind of thing that got me into this mess in the first place.""It is not the same thing," Ryan argued, taking a step toward me. "Those were just stories. This is real. What we feel for each other is real."I backed away until my legs hit the bed. "It does not matter if it is real. It is still wrong. Our parents are married. We live in the same house. We are family.""We are not blood related," Ryan said desperately. "We did not grow up together as children. Our parents got married when we were already teenagers. That makes a difference.""Does it?" I asked. "B

Lila POVRyan stood there for a moment longer, his back to me, his shoulders tense. Then he walked out and closed the door behind him.But before I could even process what had just happened, the door flew open again. Ryan stormed back in, his face flushed with anger."No," he said firmly. "No, I am not doing this. I am not walking away like some coward while you destroy yourself.""Ryan, I told you to leave," I said, wiping tears from my face."And I told you I am not leaving. You do not get to push me away like this. You do not get to tell me that I cannot help you when I am the only one who actually has evidence to save you.""I do not want your evidence!" I shouted back, standing up from my bed. "I do not want anything from you!""Why?" Ryan demanded, walking closer. "Why are you being so stubborn about this? Why would you rather get expelled than accept help from me?""Because accepting help from you comes with strings attached!" I yelled. "Because every time I let you close, you

Lila POVI do not know how long I sat on that floor.Long enough for the sun to set outside my window. Long enough for the house to grow quiet as my mother and Robert finished dinner downstairs without me. Long enough for my legs to go numb from sitting in the same position. The marks on my arms had faded from red to pink. They would be gone by tomorrow, leaving no evidence of what I had done to myself. Just like everything else in my life lately, the pain was temporary but the damage underneath lasted longer.I heard footsteps in the hallway outside my room. Heavy footsteps. Not my mother's quick, angry steps. These were slower, more hesitant. Then a soft knock on my door."Lila?" Ryan's voice came through the wood. "Can I come in?"I did not answer. I just stared at the door, wondering what he could possibly want from me now.The doorknob turned, but the door only opened a crack before hitting the chair I had wedged under the handle."Lila, please," Ryan said. "I need to talk to you

Lila POVWhen I got home from school that afternoon, my mother was waiting for me in the living room. She did not say a word. She just held out her hand.I knew what she wanted."Mom, please," I started to say."Give me your phone, Lila," she said coldly. "And your laptop.""But I need them for school. I need them to—""You need them for nothing. You have proven that you cannot be trusted with technology. You used it to write those disgusting stories. You used it to communicate with boys who are clearly a bad influence on you. So now you lose the privilege."My hands shook as I pulled my phone from my pocket and handed it to her. She took it without looking at me."The laptop too," she said.I went upstairs to my room and retrieved my laptop from my desk. When I brought it down, my mother was already disconnecting the internet router."You will go to school, you will come straight home, and you will stay in your room. No phone. No internet. No communication with anyone until this mess

Derek POVMy teammates walked away after that, leaving me standing alone with James.Well, almost alone. A few students had witnessed the entire confrontation, and they were staring at me with a mixture of shock and curiosity."That was intense," James said quietly, looking at my swollen lip. "You should put ice on that.""I am fine," I said, though my jaw was throbbing.James studied me for a long moment. "You really care about her, do not you? This is not just about doing the right thing. You actually have feelings for Lila."I did not deny it. There was no point anymore."Yeah," I admitted. "I do.""Even though it might cost you everything?" James asked."Especially because it might cost me everything," I replied. "If I walk away now, if I abandon her to save myself, then what kind of person does that make me?"James was quiet for a moment, then he nodded slowly. "Okay. So what is the plan?"I looked at him in surprise. "What?""The plan," James repeated. "You are trying to defend

Derek POVThe reaction to my speech was mixed. Some students took the petitions I offered, reading them carefully before deciding whether to sign. Others walked away shaking their heads, clearly not interested in defending Lila. But at least some people were listening. At least I had planted a seed of doubt about the narrative everyone had accepted as truth.I watched Lila walk into the school building, her shoulders hunched, her face pale and exhausted. She looked like she had been through hell. And she had. Because of me. Because I had been too weak to stand up for her when it mattered most. But I was done being weak."Derek!"I turned to see James jogging toward me, his face tight with concern. James had been my closest friend on the team since I transferred to this school. He was one of the few people who actually knew me beyond my reputation as the bad boy hockey player."Hey," I said, giving him a slight nod."What are you doing, man?" James asked, looking at the petitions in my
