I had read countless books about sneaky sisters and cheating exes.
Who would have thought it would happen to me? I was twenty-six, thinking my life finally made sense. But this… This moment tore everything apart. We were on the lower floor of Conner's company and everything happened because Clara had spilled scalding hot coffee on herself and blamed me. I tried to explain but my so-called fiancé gave me a big shock. “You are so disgusting Alyssa! I gave you everything but yet you are so greedy.” Conner spat out, every word stabbed my heart. “Conner, I-” My words were stopped instantly. “Shut up Alyssa! Don't you dare call my name. You should be grateful for Clara, she's even pleading for you! I should ruin you right now.” He raised his voice. I stepped back. I had dated Conner for three years and he never looked nor talked to me in such a way, especially not in front of all these people. My time, my life, my modelling career, I left it all to work as his consultant. I handled his projects. I built his company with my negotiating skills. I did the dirty work while he rested. Why was he doing this? This wasn't what he promised me. “Conner, don't you see? Clara’s manipulating you. She's lying, and that's what she's been doing since she got here. Clara wants to make me look bad.” I tried to explain to him. Clara hid behind Conner, sniffing and tearing up but I could see the smirk on that sneaky face. This was how she convinced our parents to hate me, using the same script. It was the same thing all over again, in front of these people. Connor was the light in my darkness. He was my pillar, my first love. I couldn't let him go. “Conner, please listen to me.” The slap came fast, and my vision blurred before I hit the ground. “You vengeful piece of…” Conner stopped himself, then he crouched to my level. His fingers dug into my cheeks and it burned. “Listen yourself Alyssa. You sound insane. I want nothing to do with you. You always rubbed yourself on me, so I had no choice but to humor you." He said. "But I'm done now! Take this as a warning. Stay very far away from me and Clara.” My eyes welled up. I couldn't believe how foolish I was. But no words left my lips. I watched Conner hold Clara by the waist, something he had never done to me, and that was bare minimum. “There's no place for you in my heart Alyssa. It will only belong to Clara. You can and will never compare to her.” And then he walked out. Just like that. Out of my life. Out of my feelings. Out of the future I thought we had. I had been blind. It was obvious. The calls, the late nights, the absence. Clara's sudden sweetness. I laughed. It was funny how I had been played and sad that I thought there was a chance. ***** “Hey Kate. Are you there please?” My voice was shaky when I called my best friend in the whole world. “Oh my gosh, Alyssa. Why do you sound like that? Tell me where you are right now, I'm coming now.” This was why I loved her. And why I hated myself now. Kate had warned me but I didn't listen. I waited and a car pulled up. Kate walked out in the snow, and wrapped me inside her arms. “My baby. Don't cry for that man! He's going to pay and you'd be the one to serve it.”“I want to go to the beach,” Alyssa said as she turned to face Harrison in bed.Harrison looked up from his phone. They had been awake for some time now and he had been on his phone ever since. His brows tightened in confusion as he simply stared at her.“The beach?”Alyssa nodded in response.“Today,” she added. His eyebrows rose. “Am I missing something here?” She pulled the blanket tighter around myself and stared at him.“What?”“I’m just trying to understand where this is coming from.”She sighed and to herself before speaking.“It's like I told you yesterday. I'm tired. I don't want to hear anything about another investigation. I just want to do something else.”Harrison's lips twitched.“So, you want to go to the beach?”“Exactly.”Harrison studied her for a moment, then placed his phone on the nightstand. He reached out his arms, pulling her over his chest. He leaned in for a kiss, a soft smile brightening his face.“Okay, whatever you want.”Alyssa blinked. “Okay? Really? Th
"Why is this meaning of this? Why would she do this?" Alyssa was confused and she couldn't wrap her head around it.She turned to her mother, "Mom, do you have anything to do with this? Claire is not meant to know." Alyssa said, bringing the telephone to her mother's face. Mrs Rodriguez looked at the device and shook her head, "I told no one about it. I was too ashamed too." She replied, and Alyssa sighed. If Claire had gone to take her place, then it would be hard fro her to do anthing, so she could only look forward and forget about it. "You aren't going to forget about this. We would get to the bottom of this." Harrison said, and even Jang and Cang stepped forward. "We could access the cambridge mansion, and capture evidence from within."Alyssa shook her head, "It's okay." She said. Harrison walked to her, "Alyssa, you don't have to back down. I'm standing right by your side.""No. I don't think I want to make them go through any more drama anymore. Let's just let it be, Harri
Alyssa gave a nod, taking off her shoes, and dropping her bag. "How was the meeting with your grandparents?" Harrison asked, before they could reach their destination. "They were pretty chill about it." She smiled in response, and then she paused. The voice she heard was familiar, and the colour drained from her face instantly. "Mom?" The words escaped from Alyssa's lip, as she came face to face with the person before her. It was her foster mother. Mrs. Rodriguez stared at her without an iota of remorse, like she would do what she did, without thinking once again. "So you are the one snooping around." Mrs Rodriguez asked. Alyssa ignored the question, "Does father know this is what you are doing?" She clenched her fists. "You tried to kill me with assassins! For God's sake, Mum, what the heck are you even hiding?" She snapped, still staying close to Harrison. Jang and Cang stood behind the woman who had been tied up. There was no way she could anything right now, s
"Grandma. Grandpapa." Alyssa stared into the eyes of the two people who had made significant impact in more than half of her life. They looked up at her, a smile on their face."You can tell us anything, Alyssa." "Are you okay?""Is it your husband?"Her grandmother had already sat up, ready to address what was going on with her.And this was what Alyssa loved about them. The way they never played with her life, and the way they were always serious about things that went on with her.It was what she loved, and it was what pushed her to do things everything she planned to do."I don't know how you'd take this." Alyssa smiled, looking away awkwardly."Are you pregnant—"Alyssa raised her hands instantly, "No. Nana, please let me finish. Stop bringing out ideas."Her nana looked at her, while she gathered herself."Mum and Dad are not my real parents." Alyssa finally said, refusing to raise her head.In the silence, you could hear the drop of a pin.She didn't have any expectations to w
CHAPTER 106Harrison walked into the home and gave the young child a rub on his head.“I hope you enjoyed your stay.” He smiled at the boy.“I did! Uncle Alfred took me to places and I was so happy. But we also worked on homeworks which I didn't like, even though it was quite easy.” Harry said, and continued his rambling as he clinged on to his mom.Alyssa smiled as she listened to his words. They must have really enjoyed it.The scene made her think of the number of times she had spent in her grandmother's arms.Dread filled her. She would have to break the news sooner or later. But with what had just happened, would it be easy for her to walk freely?“Have you eaten?” Alyssa smiled at Harry and the boy nodded.“I haven't. But when I'm eating. I'd love for you to eat with me, as we haven't done that in a while. Would your stomach be able to handle it?” Alyssa asked him, with a small grin.Harry nodded fervently. He had hoped for moments like this.Alfred's company didn't make him fe
The best way to track a snake was by going through thick bushes, and in the world of coding, the thicker the codes, the harder it was to get through it.Alyssa knew this and that was what she was prepared for.“Just give me a few minutes, Harrison. And then I'd find the man.” She turned to her husband, and realised how close his face was to her lips. The urge to give him a kiss arose but she shut it down to focus on her work."You can kiss me if it helps you work faster." Harrison spoke, the muscles in his jaw moved with every word.A blush appeared on Alyssa's face and without wasting time, she moved closer and planted a peck on his face."Thank you." Harrison said, giving her a boyish grin.Soon enough, the screams behind them vanished and Harrison turned back. The man had fainted. He watched as Jang opened up a bottle of water, and emptied it on the man's face. With a gasp, the man opened his mouth, as if he was begging for air.“You were saying.” Jang stepped forward, his foot was
