An Unexpected Tension

For several seconds after the kiss, neither of them moved.

Rose stood frozen in front of Jason, her heart pounding wildly in her chest. Her mind struggled to process what had just happened.

Jason, on the other hand, looked calm. Too calm.

His expression was unreadable as he watched her reaction.

Rose finally stepped back, creating some distance between them.

“What was that supposed to mean?” she demanded, her voice sharp with irritation.

Jason crossed his arms casually.

“You were talking too much,” he replied.

Rose blinked at him in disbelief.

“You kissed me because I was talking too much?” she repeated.

Jason gave a small shrug, as if it wasn’t a big deal.

Rose felt heat rush to her face.

This man was unbelievable.

“You’re completely impossible,” she said, shaking her head.

Jason simply stared at her, the faintest hint of amusement appearing in his eyes.

That only made Rose more annoyed.

Without another word, she turned and hurried into her room. She shut the door behind her and leaned against it, releasing a long breath.

Her mind was racing.

What just happened?

She pushed herself away from the door and began pacing around the room.

“Why would he do something like that?” she muttered to herself.

Jason was her boss. A strict, arrogant man who rarely smiled and never showed much emotion.

Kissing her was the last thing she expected from him.

Rose sat down on the edge of the bed, pressing her hands to her temples.

Another troubling thought suddenly crossed her mind.

Why didn’t I stop him immediately?

For a brief moment, she remembered the warmth of his hand on her waist and the intensity of the kiss.

Her cheeks burned.

“Did I… actually enjoy that?” she whispered to herself.

She quickly shook her head.

“No. Absolutely not.”

Jason was arrogant, controlling, and far too confident in himself.

Falling for someone like him would be a terrible idea.

Rose lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

“This trip is going to be a disaster,” she murmured.

Eventually, exhaustion took over, and she drifted into sleep.

The next morning, Rose woke up earlier than usual.

Sunlight filtered through the curtains, filling the room with a soft glow.

For a moment, she forgot everything.

Then the memory of the kiss returned.

Rose groaned quietly and buried her face in the pillow.

“Why did that have to happen?” she muttered.

After forcing herself out of bed, she got ready for the day.

She chose a fitted blouse and a pencil skirt that made her look professional and confident. After fixing her hair and applying light makeup, she examined her reflection in the mirror.

She looked calm.

At least on the outside.

Inside, however, her thoughts were still in complete chaos.

When she finally stepped out of her room, she nearly ran into Jason in the hallway.

He was already waiting there.

Their eyes met briefly.

Both of them clearly remembered what had happened the night before, but neither of them mentioned it.

Jason looked completely composed, as if nothing unusual had occurred.

“Ready?” he asked.

Rose nodded quickly.

“Yes.”

They walked toward the elevator together in silence.

The tension between them was almost impossible to ignore.

Rose kept her eyes forward, refusing to look at him.

She could still feel the memory of his kiss lingering in her mind, and that only made things more uncomfortable.

The meeting that morning was even longer than the previous one.

The conference room overlooked the busy streets of the city, with tall buildings stretching toward the sky.

Several executives were seated around the table when Rose and Jason arrived.

As usual, Jason took control of the discussion.

He spoke confidently, explaining the company’s proposals with calm authority. The clients listened carefully as he answered every question without hesitation.

Rose watched him quietly.

She hated to admit it, but he was impressive.

When it was finally her turn to speak, she stood up and presented the financial reports.

Her voice was steady and professional.

To her surprise, the clients seemed very pleased with her analysis.

Jason even supported her ideas during the discussion.

Rose noticed it immediately.

That was unusual.

At the office, Jason was usually the first person to criticize her work.

Now he was agreeing with her in front of everyone.

For a brief moment, their eyes met across the table.

Jason gave a small nod of approval.

Rose quickly looked away.

Her heart skipped a beat.

When the meeting finally ended, everyone began gathering their documents.

Rose stood beside Jason organizing the files when a familiar voice suddenly called out.

“Jason?”

Both of them turned toward the sound.

A tall, elegant woman was walking toward them.

She was strikingly beautiful, with long dark hair and a confident smile that seemed to light up the entire room.

Before Rose could react, the woman reached Jason and wrapped her arms around him.

“Jason! I can’t believe it’s really you!” she said happily.

Rose froze.

Jason looked surprised for a moment, but then recognition appeared on his face.

“Sophia?” he said.

The woman pulled back slightly but kept one hand resting on his arm.

“I heard you were coming to Australia for a meeting,” she said warmly. “I just had to come and see you.”

Rose stood quietly beside them, feeling strangely out of place.

Jason finally seemed to remember she was there.

“Oh,” he said casually, gesturing toward her. “Sophia, this is Rose. My assistant.”

Sophia turned her attention to Rose.

Her eyes slowly traveled from Rose’s face down to her shoes before returning again.

Then she smiled politely.

“Nice to meet you,” she said.

Rose forced a polite smile in return.

But something about Sophia’s gaze felt unsettling.

It wasn’t openly rude.

But it definitely wasn’t friendly either.

And for the first time since arriving in Australia, Rose had a strange feeling that this trip was about to become far more complicated than she had expected.
