••~~MADDISON~~••

The next morning, I woke up to him.

Sleeping beside me.

One arm tucked under his pillow, the other across his chest like a Greek statue finally at rest. That beard...God. It wasn’t just a beard. It was a sculpted jaw-throne. The kind that could bruise your thighs and bless your soul in the same night.

He looked different like this.

Peaceful.

Soft.

Almost dreamy.

Like a fallen angel who was only on earth for a vacation.

An Angel who knew how to break hearts.

Long lashes that could make girls jealous, lips slightly parted, brow relaxed. Vulnerable. But still dangerous. Like the bad boy in the movies, the kind that kisses you breathless in one scene and breaks you in the next.

And then it all came rushing back... the Mirror Room. His grip. His mouth. The way he touched me like he had every right to. Like I already belonged to him.

My fingers traced my bottom lip,

I could still feel the scrape of his beard down my neck.

My thighs squeezed involuntarily.

And still… all we did last night was sleep.

SLEEP!

Which was the most dangerous part. Because I liked sleeping next to him.

I bolted upright. No. No, no, no.

Didn’t need him waking up. Didn’t need to see that look that would make me feel like a mistake.

What the hell was I even thinking?

I knew I had issues. I knew I froze. Bedroom stuff never came easy. Asides my recently broken relationship, I have gone on dates, made out a few times, been in short-term relationships, have come close to having sex couple of times but I never get through the trauma-punch. Not even with Chad. I simply couldn’t handle men touching me like that…. not without breaking.

I needed to message Ms. Sinclair. Tell her I’d made a mistake. Back out. Cancel. End this whole arrangement before it explodes in my face.

I knew I would get in a lot of trouble for messing things up with their biggest client.

Shit.

I can't think of that right now.

First.... the bathroom.

I slipped out of the bed, careful not to wake him, and tiptoed inside.

White walls. White tiles. I could smell luxury off the walls.

And of course, the whole place smelled like him. Musk. Cedar. Heat. Like dominance bottled and sprayed across the entire room.

Without thinking, I grabbed a towel off the hook and wrapped myself in it. Only when I pressed it to my nose, breathing him in, did I realize it was his.

“Shit.” I dropped it instantly, like it burned.

Of course it's his.

I planted myself in front of the mirror, mumbling to my reflection. “One weak moment, Maddie. That’s all this was,”

“Even good girls get one.”

I nodded. Grounded myself. Breathe.

'Get out before he wakes up.'

Except… where would I go?

Back to Sydney’s shoebox apartment? Sleep on a beanbag next to her constantly moaning, sex-obsessed boyfriend?

Yeah. That’s what I deserved.

“You’ll figure it out, Madds. You always do.”

I opened the mirror cabinet. Neat rows of grooming products. And then, a whole row of toothbrushes. A dozen. All unused.

Of course. How many women had brushed their teeth here before me?

He’s probably had a long line before me and there’ll be more after.

I wasn’t special. “Just another toothbrush in a row.” I mumbled, sighed.

I grabbed a white one and reached for the toothpaste.

Then chaos.

A bottle slipped from the shelf, hit the sink, popped open,

Pills. Red. Everywhere.

“Crap!”

“No no no….”

I scrambled to scoop them up, half already melting into the sink.

Then,

“What the fuck are you doing?”

That rough sexy voice slammed into me. I flinched back from the sink so fast I lost my balance. But he caught me. Of course he did. Because that’s his thing. Catching me when I’m about to collapse.

Strong arms. Steel-hard chest. The kind you don’t want to leave even if it’s killing you.

“I…. I’m sorry, I was just reaching for toothpaste and everything kinda... exploded. I didn’t mean to….” I mumbled quickly, breathless between words.

He didn’t loosen his grip.

“Don’t touch my shit,” he growled. His eyes locked on mine…. green, wild, possessive. “Rule number one. Ask.”

His body coiled around mine like a wolf protecting what was his.

I should pull away. I don’t. I can’t. God, I like the way he holds me.

Like I wasn’t broken. Like I’m something worth catching. Like if the world went up in flames, his arms would be the only thing left standing.

“I... I was going to leave,” I whispered. “Didn’t want to overstay.”

His brow rose. “Leave?”

“After last night… I figured you were done with me.”

His jaw flexed. Silent. Then his gaze dropped to my lips. A flicker of heat passed through them.

Then he leaned in. Closer. Tighter. Took my bottom lip into his mouth like he owned it.

One slow, deep suck. A bite. Another suck.

His hands didn’t even move, but my whole body was caving into his, heating up like a bugger in a damn microwave. I clutched his shoulders, weak, weightless, on fire, moaning into his mouth. And then suddenly, he pulled back.

Left me breathless.

“Does that feel like a man who’s done with a woman?” He drawled, rough, sexy, possessive.

I couldn’t even answer. Just breathed. Shook my head. “No,” I whispered.

His voice dipped lower. “We’re just getting started, Maddison. But don’t fuck with my rules.”

He stepped back and I nearly collapsed.

How can one man make your body forget how to stand?

Have you ever wanted someone so badly it scared you?

That’s Corian Van Halen. In seconds.

He adjusted his watch. “Ausley will have breakfast ready. Eat.” he commanded.

Then paused, leaned in, and whispered against my ear,

“You’ll need every ounce of strength when I take what I’ve been starving for.”

He turned away like he hadn’t just turned me inside out.

Already dressed in black running gear, tension flexing across every muscle. Over six feet of walking dominance.

Then he was gone.

And I was left standing there, trembling, breathless, drowning in him and wondering what the heck he had planned next.

••MADDISON••I walked into class late again. Professor Daniels gave me a look and I mouthed sorry before sliding into my seat next to Sydney. She didn't look at me, just kept sketching in her notebook with her pencil moving fast across the page in sharp, angry strokes.I pulled out my own sketchbook and opened it, staring at the blank page while I waited for her to say something like she always does. Some tantrum about family drama or her sex-obsessed neighbor, something, anything Sydney-coded, but there was only silence. It felt wrong, like a log pressing down on my chest.Sydney and I didn't do silence. We talked about everything. I watched her from the corner of my eye and noticed her jaw was locked and her shoulders stiff."Syd," I whispered. She kept drawing, pretending she didn't hear me."Sydney."Her pencil stopped for just a second, then kept going."What?" Just that."Why are you being like this?"She put her pencil down slowly and finally turned

••CORIAN••I woke up with Maddison in my arms, her face buried in my chest, her breathing soft and even. I didn't want to move or wake her, but I needed to say it and needed her to know."Maddison," I whispered. She stirred, her eyes fluttering open... those beautiful hazel brown eyes."Morning," her voice was sleepy."Morning, pretty."She gave a soft smile, but then she saw my face and it faded."Corian... I'm sorry about yesterday. About Julia. I shouldn't have...""No," I stopped her. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Julia. All I ever want to do is protect you, Maddison. And sometimes that means I may do things you don't approve of, but it's never intended to hurt you."She was quiet, looking at me before she sat up and I did too."I want to have a say in my own life, Corian," her voice was firm. "I don't want to be treated like I'm owned. I want to be your partner, not your trophy."I reached for her hand and held it. "You are my trophy, Maddison. I wo

••CORIAN••I snuck out of bed. Left Maddison sleeping. She looked peaceful. Finally. Her face was so soft and her breathing was even so I know she wasn’t having any nightmares. But I wasn't peaceful. Not even close.I headed to the warehouse. Where Rocky had Nick tied. The drive felt long. But also too short. My hands gripped the steering wheel with a rage I couldn’t contain. I kept seeing her face. Her tears. Her ripped shirt. Her jeans pulled down. And I wanted to kill him. I wanted to kill him so bad. When I walked in, he was sweaty and bloody. Tied to a chair in the middle of the room. Clearly Rocky had already started working on him.Good.I stared at him. And I wasn't Corian anymore. It was Trojan. And he wanted blood."Leave," I told Rocky.Rocky was leaning against the wall. Arms crossed. He looked at me, hesitating."Are you sure?"He knew what I was about to do. He knew what happened when Trojan came out."Leave, Rock."Rocky pushed off the wall.

••CORIAN••My hands gripped the steering wheel. I couldn't concentrate at work. No matter how hard I tried. I was headed to Maddison's school. Because Rocky told me she was there.I was still on the phone with him."Has it been delivered?" I asked."Yes. Jax is making sure Terruso finds it. I had it delivered to one of their safe houses. But Jax will make sure he sees it."I wiped out the source code from Mom's inheritance chip. Then destroyed it. Had the pieces sent to Terruso. He would assume the chip is gone. He would be enraged. And that would cause him to be sloppy. For sure he's going to make a move on me tonight. And that would give me enough time to alert the cops to his safe house where his mini Pit party is setting up.He's going to join Dad in jail. He'll never cause Maddison another ounce of pain.Rocky said he spotted her at Angelique's studio earlier. I didn't know why she was there. But I guess it had something to do with her art. At least t

••MADDISON••I felt awfully guilty now that I had left the studio... it's like the anger had started to wear off and I regret letting Nathan paint me in almost nothing.I regret wanting to hurt Corian that way. Why did I do that? Why did I let my anger get the better of me?No, I just can't. I'll have to call Angelique and tell her to stop. I can't let her publish that painting.I probably shouldn't have walked out on Corian like I did also... and calling him pathetic? that was wrong too. I should have just had a conversation like normal people do but there is nothing normal about growing up with an alcoholic mother who walks out of every real conversation we've ever had.Oh, I messed up. I have to fix it.But I was already in Nick's office. He was on the phone when I entered his office. Signaled me to sit. I did. Tapping my foot. Impatient. When he was done, I went straight to the point."What happened?"Nick leaned back in his chair and smiled. "Would y

••MADDISON••A woman appeared from somewhere I hadn't noticed before, and she looked older with a kind face that made me feel slightly less nervous. She handed me a brown silhouette wrap that felt thin between my fingers."You can change behind that screen over there," she said gently.I nodded and took the wrap from her hands. My hands shook as I stepped behind the screen and started undressing. The wrap was the definition of thin and sheer and it basically hid absolutely nothing at all when I put it on.I stared at myself in the small mirror hanging there, my entire body outlined through the fabric like I wasn't wearing anything. What am I doing here, what am I really doing? He lied to me about my mother, he hurt me by keeping secrets. I reminded myself, took a breath and stepped out from behind the screen.Nathan's eyes found me immediately and they softened and widened at the same time."Wow," he breathed out like he couldn't help himself. My face burned h
