Arthur’s POV
I took a subconscious step back, watching my father. “What is the meaning of this?” I asked.
The side of his lips curved up, a smile I was well aware of. Victory and pride. Unfortunately, it always had something to do with making me succumb. He loaded the gun, staring at it like some trophy.
“What do you think will happen if I shot your legs?” he asked, but I knew he didn’t need me to respond. He chuckled.
“You will be crippled, right? And certainly won’t be able to get on a bike ever again,” he finally looked at me. “Am I right?”
“Forcing me to take control that way would not get any of us respect. The board certainly wouldn’t want a cripple as their leader, which might lead to Neil taking over,” I said.
“I lose, you lose, son,”

Sierra’s POVDexter didn’t seem to want to take no for an answer. I contemplated going along with him. After all, it was a simple meal. I reluctantly agreed to go with him. He took my hand, heading for the parking lot.He seemed nicer tonight, and I wasn’t sure why, but I was going to take it. However, just a few steps in, from behind, someone pulled my hand away from Dexter’s, pulling me to the side.It took me a second to recover and have a look at who it was. Arthur. His head was so red, it looked like it was about to explode at any moment. “Arthur, come on, we were having a moment here,” Dexter said.“I warned you,” Arthur said and sent a punch flying towards Dexter.I quickly stepped in between them. Arthur’s fist hung midair, and something flashed in his eyes. I didn’t want to think about what it was as I spoke. &l
Arthur’s POV“This establishment is nothing but trash! How dare you treat me this way?”“You will all regret this. And I hope you will be ready for it. First time choosing to take part in your lousy race and this is how you treat a star. You sure are going to lose customers soon.”“We really hope you can understand, sir. You were completely rude to a customer and you continue to be rude. Please leave, or I would have to call security,” the manager said as nicely as she could come up with.“You all are-““Leave the premises, Dexter,” I interrupted, walking over to him.The manager gave me a warm greeting, and I gestured for her to return to her office. I could tell how exhausted she was already. There was no need to keep her here for someone this irrelevant.“If it isn

Arthur’s POV“Do not take it to heart. She’ll come around,” Mum whispered as we watched Sierra go up the stairs.“Maybe it’s best you leave her alone. You aren’t exactly convincing enough,” Jackson chimed in, his tone filled with anger.“What do you mean?” I asked.Everything seemed fine, but then it seemed it vanished before my eyes before I could process things. “At the race, there were a lot of gossips flying around. I have a feeling Neil is involved. Too many people know about her and they are not happy about it,” Jackson said.I rushed up, heading for the door. “What do you want to do?” Jackson asked, making me pause, but then I walked off.He joined me on the porch. “Beating him up would solve nothing,” he said.“He’s trying t
Sierra’s POVDealing with my emotions has only turned worse with the coming days. I was going to stay away from Arthur. It would be better I let go of him than he did. I would hurt too much, yet just the thought of doing it myself still hurts. But Elvis so badly wanted to talk to him. I couldn’t, not after I found the courage to walk away from him earlier. Fortunately, Jackson caught on and went with Elvis instead. A part of me wanted to get Elvis to stop.I would not want him close to Arthur, but pulling Elvis away from what he loved was not something I usually did. Frankly, I did not know how. “Hey cutie,” someone said beside me.Mum and Dad, who were speaking to someone in the corner, instantly stopped and walked over to me. “Hi,” I smiled politely.I tried to walk off, but he held out his hand, stopping me. “Can I help you?” I a
Arthur’s POVGetting a call from my father a night before a race was one thing I knew would always deter my mood. I tried my best to hide it and act like everything was fine, but fighting the internal turmoil while in a race was harder than I thought.Just before the race began, I spotted Sierra. My eyes found her minutes after she sat, and I knew something was wrong. I tried to brush it off as not seeing her face properly and so there was nothing wrong, so I focused on the race.Usually, I don’t go head first, but I needed to end the game quickly to get to Sierra. There was a chance she was fine, but having a thought that she wasn’t made me uneasy. Dexter overtook me, excited by the shock that ran through most of the crowd. His best doze in a race.I didn’t expect him in the race, but he did not matter to me. A few distances before the finish line, I spotted Sierra leaving. T
