"Serene, you should kill me now. If these bullets failed to take my life and if I survived, I will come for you" Dante Volcov spoke coldly even when he has several bullet injuries on his body and he lost a lot of blood too. A simple man couldn't have withstand this much pain. But he is not just anyone. He is whispered to be Lucifers reincarnation, and the future Don of the outfit.

Serene looked at her bloody hands. He is right, she should take what's left of his life. But she couldn't. She is not a killer like him. She is a doctor. Without a word, she fled from the scene, hoping that he should never find her.

Present...

Serene gasped awake from her dream, or more like a nightmare. She still couldn't forget that night, even after 2 years.

"Serene, are you awake? Ray just called. There is an emergency in the hospital. He is requesting you to go to the hospital quickly" Serene's roommate Christy called out from outside her door.

Serene noticed that Ray has indeed called her several times, but her mobile was on silent mode.

"Got it" Serene called back.

She quickly finished her morning routine and rushed to the hospital. Her boss Raymond wouldn't have called her so many times if its not something urgent.

The moment Serene stepped inside the hospital, Ray all but dragged her in the direction of the operation theater.

"Its a little boy. He got into an accident. He needs stitches on his head and his heart is not stable because some metal rod pierced his chest and ruptured his heart. You are the best cardio surgeon in Nashville. And that boy needs your magical hand desperately" Ray filled her in on the way to the operation theater.

Everything that happened after that is a blurr. She got dressed in her shrubs before inspecting the boys test reports. It took her around 7 hours to restore the boys heart. The damage was too bad and she tried her best to save the boy.

"He will survive. But he needs strict bed rest for the next one month. Better not to do anything that excites or stresses him out" she instructed the boys parents.

"Thank you so much Doctor. In another hospital the doctors said that my boy will not survive. They suggested us to come here to City Cardio, saying that you are our best shot. Thank you so much" the boys mother said with tears.

Serene felt warmth spread inside her heart when she heard those words.

"I did what I could. Take care" she replied humbly before following after Ray.

"You look exhausted darling. Come, let me treat you to a meal" Ray offered.

He was her professor when she was a student. Despite being 6 years older than her, Raymond is very talented and kind.

"Thank you Ray. I am famished" she replied softly.

They ditched the hospital cafeteria and decided to go a good restaurant instead.

"Serene, that man looks like Boris" Ray pointed out in the direction of a couple who are looking into each other's eyes with full of affection while Boris was seen sliding a ring on her finger. The same ring which he promised to buy her.

Her heart felt like its freezing again. The earlier warmth she felt when the boys mom showed gratitude vanished in an instant. Boris is her boyfriend, who is currently flirting with someone else so openly.

Its been 2 years since she felt this way. As the only daughter of the most dangerous Mafia boss Alexander Rivera, she never experienced Emotions like love or affection. She lost her mother early, and was raised by the servants to become her father's puppet. Someone without any feelings or opinions, someone who is expected to follow her father's every command to a 't', until that night. She fled, changed her last name, her appearance as well. Probably no one in her past knows that she is a medical student, as her father all but ignored her until he needs her.

'Your engagement in one month'

Serene felt the familiar uneasiness when she remembered why she fled.

"Serene, say something" Ray urged.

She glanced at Boris and his companion with out a flicker of emotion. She felt nothing, maybe because she never completely loved him. But she always treated him with honesty and he was definitely a very good friend. She never felt the flutters or heart skipping feelings with Boris which Christy always talks about. She likes his company, and the feeling of comfort and the freedom to do what she likes with him, which she never got to do in her past. She is disappointed in him that he decided to cheat behind her back like this.

"Lets go, I don't feel like eating here" Serene turned to leave. She doesn't feel like confronting Boris and waste her energy.

'We are done. Let's break up' she texted him instead before walking out of the restaurant.

She noticed the striken look on Boris before he lifted his gaze to meet hers. She turned away from him.

"Serene, stop" Ray is behind her, probably too worried at her lack of reaction. What's there to react about? Her illusion of a normal life is shattered by Boris's betrayal. Back stabbing, killing and stuff like that are not new to her. She thought only people from the Mafia would do all that. But how naive was she.

"Its ok Ray. I am fine" she assured Ray camly.

Ray didn't look convinced.

"Can I go home? I don't feel like coming back to the hospital" she requested him.

"Ofcourse doll. Take your time. Just remember that I am here for you" he replied softly.

She gave him a forced smile before leaving from there. She walked on the road lost in thoughts when a sleek black car parked while blocking her way. Chill ran down her spine. She remembered this car and its owner.

"I told you, I will come for you" his voice, still as cold as ever reached her ears. She wanted to run, but she knows he will not let her.
