Penulis: Ella
My phone buzzed.

Sera had posted on social media: "Thank you everyone for your concern. I'm okay now. Thank you to Damien for always being there when I need him. I'll spend the rest of my life repaying you."

The photo showed Sera lying in a hospital bed, her fingers intertwined with Damien's as he sat beside her.

They looked perfect together.

I barely glanced at it before turning off my screen and setting the phone aside.

Damien and I were over.

Whether Sera intended to show off to me or provoke me, I didn't care. I wouldn't feel joy or sorrow because of it anymore.

Even if no one in this house cared about me, I still had to live well for myself.

I cooked myself a warm, hearty dinner and went to bed.

With the house empty for once, this was the most peaceful sleep I'd had in years.

---

I woke up the next morning refreshed.

I made myself a cup of hand-ground coffee and sat in the wicker chair in the garden, listening to the morning news and stretching my muscles.

I prepared the hunting grounds and organized the safe house—tasks I'd always handled for the family.

For the first time, I was truly enjoying life.

I should have been living for myself all along.

After breakfast, I returned to my room to sort through the gifts Damien had given me over the years, planning to return them all.

But as I gathered everything together, I realized something startling.

Even though Damien had successfully inherited the Alpha position and possessed countless power and wealth, he'd never bothered to put thought into gifts for his fiancée.

The things he'd given me could be counted on one hand.

We barely had any photos together. Some of the "gifts" were just random pebbles he'd picked up while we were walking.

The few items were all worthless junk.

Even though I'd treasured each one and carefully locked them away in my drawer.

Now that I took them out, I discovered they'd all yellowed and grown moldy with time.

Just like Damien's feelings for me.

Expired feelings weren't worth clinging to, just like these worthless gifts.

I shook my head.

Damien was a neat freak. He wouldn't want these things back anyway.

I threw everything into an iron bucket—the few gifts, the handful of photos—and destroyed them all with silver powder.

As the silver smoke rose from the corroding memories, I said goodbye to my past and prepared to embrace a new life.

---

After finishing this cleansing ritual, I went to the Beta Elder to get travel permits for other territories.

For my upcoming secret research, I needed documentation that would help me hide my identity and tracks. On the surface, these were just permits for traveling to other territories.

I wanted to spend my remaining days here touring the surrounding areas and clearing my head.

I was browsing through travel guides when Damien arrived.

Unlike my relaxed state, he looked haggard.

According to what Ethan had told him, I'd shown no emotion when receiving the returned engagement gift. Damien hadn't slept all night because of it.

He knew better than anyone how much I loved him. He couldn't believe that would be my reaction.

But when he saw the destroyed gifts and photos in the garden's iron bucket, his world collapsed.

These things that I'd once treasured like priceless artifacts—now I'd discarded them like garbage?

"Why did you burn the gifts I gave you and all our photos?"

I heard the slight tremor in Damien's voice.

I looked up from my travel guide to meet his pale face.

"Those things are useless now. The person who gave them has changed his heart, so the gifts have no value anymore. That's why I destroyed them."

Damien froze for a moment, then seemed to understand something.

"You knew I'd come to see you, so you staged this whole scene on purpose. You're trying to play hard to get and win me back, aren't you?"

"Aria, why are you always so unreasonable?"

He was about to leave immediately when something on my coffee table caught his eye.

Travel permits.

Damien's mind went blank.

"You're leaving the pack? Just because we asked you to put the research patent under Sera's name? You're going to threaten us by leaving? You really are a manipulative woman."

"Tell me—where are you going?"

A strange panic suddenly surged in Damien's chest. He grabbed my arm tightly.

Even though I was right there beside him, visible and tangible, somehow he had the overwhelming feeling that I might disappear forever at any moment.

"Is there really no possibility for us anymore?"Damien still didn't want to give up just like this.I didn't answer, but my silence had already given him the response. It wasn't that I couldn't refuse him.I just didn't know how to say goodbye without hurting him. This silence was my final gentleness toward him."I understand."Damien lowered his head and finally gave up.I helped him to his feet and took out a healing crystal from my white coat pocket.Damien recognized it immediately. This was the first gift I had ever given him, something I had searched for through countless hardships, and it had helped him through a difficult time. But when he fell for Sera, he had returned this meaningful healing crystal to me in order to completely sever his feelings for me.This was the thing he regretted most.He had originally thought the healing crystal had been destroyed along with everything else, never imagining that I had kept it with me all this time."I should have destroyed this along

The temperature was so cold it seemed ready to freeze the air into frost.Only when the taste of rust spread between his lips and teeth did Damien realize he had bitten through his lower lip.For this reunion, he had spent twelve full months searching almost every corner of werewolf territory. He had completely neglected all pack affairs, leaving everything to his beta assistant. The elders couldn't bear to watch the former golden boy Damien continue in such a dazed state, so they finally told him where I was. After getting the information, he immediately booked a plane ticket here.He had traveled dusty roads all the way, not even stopping for a drink of water. He just wanted to see the person who haunted his dreams as quickly as possible. However, after meeting me again, he discovered a cruel truth:I was no longer the little childhood friend from his memory who would endlessly tolerate and treat him gently. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't find even a trace of affection in m

Under a chain of stars, on a stone bench soaked in moonlight, Kieran sat quietly curled up.He placed his forearm on my knee, but his gaze couldn't move away from my face.Only when the healing salve touched his burn did he suck in a sharp breath and come back to his senses."The burn is quite serious. If you don't treat it properly, it'll leave a scar. You're going to be the Alpha King someday. How can you be so careless as to get burned by kitchen flames?""It doesn't matter. Scars are a warrior's honor. Besides, I'm just a man—who would care if I have a few scars on my arm—""I care."I sighed, making the boy's eyes go blank. After applying the medicine, I looked at him seriously."Kieran, you should go back tomorrow. I understand your feelings, but I don't have time for romance right now. I don't want you wasting your youth here for me. You're the Alpha King's heir. You have more important things waiting for you."Kieran opened his mouth, about to say something, when I continued:"

Next to a ginkgo tree on the western lawn of the Alliance's secret research facility, I found a warm spot to sit down. The smell of disinfectant from the laboratory still lingered in my nostrils. I unbuttoned my collar, breathing in the fresh outdoor air as I scattered crumbled whole wheat bread to the gray and white flock of pigeons.I had been at this secret research facility for three months now.Once I entered the laboratory, I often stayed for an entire day.The access card in my pocket seemed ready to leave permanent marks on my white lab coat.Such busyness would be unbearable for most people, but for me, after experiencing so many difficulties, this was nothing. I was more fulfilled now than I had ever been in my life.In the laboratory's new drug development team, my partner members were all the greatest healers in the current werewolf world.Although I was currently just an assistant in the laboratory, in these short three months, I had learned more than I had in all my previ

The dull thud of fists hitting flesh exploded through the living room. An Omega couldn't possibly withstand a werewolf's assault.Sera's wails gradually became fragmented. She convulsed like a dehydrated fish struggling for water, her face covered in snot and tears."I'm sorry, Uncle Marcus... I'm just a bastard with no parents. I wanted a family so badly that I told those lies."She suddenly grabbed Father's pant leg, her forehead hitting the floor hard enough to leave purple bruises."Please spare me. I'll never lie again. Please, I'm begging you to spare me."Father stared at her with bloodshot eyes. Her answer was an even more violent barrage of punches. When Father finally stopped, Sera lay on the ground like a dead dog, barely breathing."Dad." Ethan's voice sounded like it was floating from an ice cave. "The day I encountered the rogue wolves... who really saved me? And who made the antidote?"Father's body shuddered violently. He suddenly began slapping himself frantically."It

Seeing Father about to casually toss the recording device into the trash, Damien immediately stepped forward."Wait. I want to hear what's recorded on this."The Blackwood family's words had reminded him of something important.I had deliberately placed this recording device in a gift box and left it in such a conspicuous place. There had to be a reason."What's there to listen to? It's probably just some curses against us. Too inauspicious. Better to throw it away."Sera unnaturally stood up, trying to remove the tape from the recording device. Her behavior was extremely nervous, completely unlike the composed person she usually was. This impulsive action was totally out of character for her."Stop."Damien wouldn't let her succeed and immediately stepped forward to stop her.As they struggled over the device, Damien managed to press the play button first. After a burst of static, a triumphant voice rang out:"Aria Blackwood, get on your knees and beg me.""I might let Daddy forgive y
