Raina’s pov

Ian was impulsive. At least, that was the impression he gave me. The kind of impulsive that made my blood boil when I wasn’t too busy begrudgingly admitting he was right. Tonight was one of those nights. I hated that he’d sunk his teeth into Tiana without a second thought, but… she’d seen too much. Letting her walk away would’ve been a disaster waiting to happen.

And Silas.

I didn't even want to think about him. Not after his betrayal. But I had let him stop me because part of me knew Tiana wasn't really in danger. Still, I hated that I listened to him.

The room had emptied out after that, everyone splintering off to their own corners of this mess. Velmoran was locked in one of the rooms, her silence and submission more unnerving than any attack she could have lunged on us. Nina disappeared with Judy to gather supplies for tomorrow. Ian, for once, didn’t linger, which left me alone with Liam.

Raina’s POVSomething was off with Liam. He’d been quiet ever since that little huddle with Ysra, quieter than I’d seen him in… well, maybe ever. Liam wasn’t exactly the type to keep his feelings on a leash—if something was bothering him, you usually knew. But now? He was doing everything he could to keep whatever was in his head locked up, and failing miserably. And the worst part? He thought I hadn’t noticed.Yeah, right.I shifted my weight against the cold wall, crossing my arms as Ysra and Judy arranged their supplies in the center of the room—a mix of herbs, candles, and other things I couldn’t name but was pretty sure you couldn’t just pick up at the corner store. Nina knelt beside them, her hands hovering as she asked questions and actually got real answers. The room smelled sharp and earthy, like crushed leaves and metal. But my attention wasn’t on them.It was on Liam.He stood near the far wall, close enough to Velmoran’s bound form that it felt deliberate, like he was guar

Liam's POV “Are you sure you’re strong enough to do this?” I asked Ysra as she stumbled out of the guest room. She’d been resting, but from the looks of her, it hadn’t helped much. I joined her in the hallway, just outside the room where Velmoran was being kept.“It doesn’t matter. I can’t sleep.” She pressed a hand to the side of her head, making small circular motions like she was trying to scrub the images out of her mind. “I keep seeing these visions. They’re all jumbled—I can’t even explain them properly.”“Try,” I urged. “Describe it exactly how it comes to you. Is something bad going to happen?”She leaned against the doorframe, steadying herself before meeting my gaze.“Honestly? I don’t know. But I do know this—we have to turn her back. I keep seeing her in her lab, terrified… and then… there’s Raina—bloody and crying.”My throat tightened. “Does Ian happen to be in any of these visions?”Her brows furrowed, her eyes narrowing. “Yes. How did you know that?”I didn’t know how

Liam's POV It was like standing in the midst of a minefield. One wrong move and that would be the end. At this point, I wasn't sure if I was on any sides, just somewhere on the fence.Velmoran was restrained now, yet my living room still pulsed with tension. Ian and Raina literally wanted to tear each other apart. With Ian being the leader and Raina a predator to our kind, the others were wise enough to steer clear of either, leaving the responsibilities of keeping them in check to fall on my shoulders."We have her now, so what's next?" Nina asked from her perch on the edge of the couch."Before you all continue whatever this is, can I please leave? I already have a lot on my plate right now to not want to get involved in what-in-the-every-logical-way-should-be-impossible that's going on here right now," Tiana said.Ian snorted. Raina and Nina shot him a glare. He chuckled, raising his glass of wine to his lips."I'll explain everything to you—""Don't," Tiana hissed, cutting Nina o

Raina’s POVIt was like staring at a nightmare dragged into the real world.Velmoran wasn’t just a monster, she was a grotesque mockery of what used to be human. She loomed in the doorway, well over six feet, hunched forward with her head tilted at an unnatural angle. Her eyes glowed a deep, burning red, scanning the room with unnerving precision.Marble-like scales were scattered across her body, glinting under the dim light, crawling up her limbs, and even coating parts of her face. Her claws—long, black, and curved—extended from her hands like talons. Her hair wasn’t hair anymore. It was a brittle collection of patches, strands jutting out as though chunks had been ripped away, leaving raw scalp exposed in places. She shrieked. An ear-piercing sound that made my bones feel like they’d vibrate out of my skin. The sound hit me so deep it bypassed my ears and seemed to rattle in my spine. If not for the two small, withered bumps on her chest ending in wrinkled, pinkish nipples, you wo

Liam's POV I gasped, my eyes snapping open. My hand flew to the hilt buried in my chest, and I groaned as I yanked it free, the blade tearing its way through flesh. A hiss escaped me. For a moment, I lay still on the floor, the throbbing ache in my chest fading as my body knitted itself back together. My lungs burned with phantom pain, the kind that lingered even after death was reversed."You’re awake… finally," Raina’s voice said from somewhere behind me.I sat up slowly, feeling dizzy. She was leaning against the doorway, her arms folded, her expression unreadable."It’s been a long time since someone killed me," I muttered, dragging myself upright and collapsing onto the nearest chair. "Kinda forgot how much that hurts." My voice was hoarse, my movements sluggish. I hated how vulnerable death made me, even briefly.A cold object hit my lap. I glanced down.A blood bag.I looked back up at her, narrowing my eyes into slits. "You know this is illegal, right?""Yeah, well, it was ei
