I slowly opened my eyes, only to realize my lower body was aching terribly. Everything felt wet, and a dull, unbearable pain spread through my abdomen.

What happened?

As I looked around, I immediately realized this wasn't my room or the apartment I had rented yesterday. Where was I? Then the memories came rushing back.

Lindsay.

“Linds... Lindsay?” I called weakly.

The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the apartment, and relief washed over me. I must have been at Lucas's apartment after

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   65. Shining Rose

Two months had passed since I fell down the emergency staircase at Lucas's apartment. I had started a completely new life in downtown California. It wasn't the future I had imagined, but it was still a fresh beginning.Dave had insisted on buying me an apartment in the heart of the business district. He said it would make it easier for me to find a job. After that, he promised he would never interfere in my life again.I looked like my old self again. My body had regained its slightly chubby figure, and my complexion was healthier. From the outside, I looked like someone who had finally moved on.Only I knew the truth.Sometimes I still dreamed about the babies I had carried. In every dream, they were two little boys with bright smiles. They always ran toward me, laughing as they wrapped their tiny arms around me.The dreams were beautiful. They were also heartbreaking.Every time I woke up, my pillow was damp with tears. I would stare at the ceiling for a long time before reminding m

“Never!” I snapped, glaring at Dave as he stood tall in the doorway without the slightest intention of moving aside.“You're carrying something that belongs to me,” Dave said firmly. “I have every right to my children.”“Never!” I shouted, my voice rising. “I said never!”I spun around and stormed into my bedroom. Without wasting another second, I yanked open the closet and pulled out my duffel bag. My clothes, sketchbooks, and painting supplies disappeared inside one after another.I was leaving.Leaving this apartment.Leaving this city. Most importantly...Leaving Dave behind. Before I could zip the bag shut, a shadow fell across the doorway. Dave stood there with both hands braced against the frame, blocking my only way out. His expression remained calm, but his eyes were filled with determination.“Where are you going?” he asked, lifting an eyebrow.“Away,” I answered coldly. “Far away from you.”I finished packing and slung the duffel bag over my shoulder. Then I walked straight

Lindsay had gone out to buy food for me. She wanted to find something soft enough for my stomach. Honestly, I was already tired of eating bland food. This new apartment still felt like a dream. Lindsay had received it from her father, a man who had never spoiled her with expensive gifts before. Throughout college, most of her support had come from her older brother instead. Her father had bought this place as a reward for nearly graduating. I couldn't help admiring how fortunate she was. She belonged to a family that could always catch her when she fell.My thoughts drifted back to myself. I was pregnant, carrying two tiny lives inside me. Even surviving on my own seemed impossible right now, let alone raising children. What was I supposed to do after they were born?My dream of starting my career would have to wait. At the very least, I'd need to stay home until the twins were old enough to be cared for by someone else. Only then could I look for a job.I stood inside Lindsay's beaut

Lindsay's PovRose had improved tremendously over the past week. The color had finally returned to her cheeks. She no longer looked as fragile as she had on the day we rushed her to the hospital.I stayed by her side every single day. I barely left her room except to eat or attend class. Taking care of her had become part of my routine.Lucas visited every day without fail. He always tried to keep me company for a while. Every single time, I sent him away.No matter how patient he was, I couldn't trust him yet. Not after everything that had happened. Some wounds simply needed time.I had already made my decision. He would have to wait until Rose gave birth. Only then would I know whether he truly deserved another chance. After the babies were born, I planned to move Rose somewhere safe. By then, I would have graduated from college as well. Everything would be much easier to arrange.Only time could prove where Lucas's loyalty truly belonged. Would he protect our secret? Or would he ev

Lindsay's PovI stared into his green eyes, searching for even the slightest trace of deception. But then I remembered.I was dealing with a trained agent.Someone like Lucas had spent years hiding his emotions and controlling every expression on his face. If he was lying, there was no way I would be able to see it in his eyes. What a waste of effort."Good," I said coldly. "I don't want that annoying bastard finding out Rose is pregnant or learning about her condition. If this information leaks, there'll only be one person responsible."I pointed directly at him."You.""I know," Lucas replied calmly. "I knew you'd say that. I won't.""Good," I answered firmly. "Because I meant every word." I know he will do something stupid and will tell Dave about everything...and thinking about that..made my anger boiled. men will always be men..unexplainable! He remained silent for a moment before speaking again."But... do you really think this is fair to Dave? Rose is carrying his child... the

  • Fat Girl's Nemesis   60. New Home

Baby?Did she just say... baby?I no longer had the strength to open my eyes. Sleep pulled me under like a thick, warm blanket wrapping around my entire body.Everything became quiet. For the first time in what felt like forever, I slept peacefully. When I finally woke up again, I found myself in a different room. Lucas was sitting beside my bed while the strong scent of antiseptic filled the air, making my stomach churn.I blinked several times, trying to clear my vision. Then I searched the room for Lindsay."You're awake," Lucas said quietly. "Lindsay's taking a shower. She said she smelled terrible after staying here all day."He stood up."Do you want something to drink?"I nodded.Lucas picked up a bottled drink, slipped a stainless-steel straw inside, and carefully helped me drink. The cool liquid soothed my dry throat, even if only a little."How do you feel?" he asked immediately. "Are you in pain? Does anything still hurt?"His voice remained calm and expressionless, but the
