Act 43: Meeting Killian

She bids farewell to Clarissa and Ian at the elevator and blows a kiss when the door closes. “She told me,” Devyn says, leaning into Kieran’s arms. “She’s told me about the cancer and everything else. She doesn’t want help….”

Kieran holds her closer and breathes out a sigh. “I think our Clarissa is done fighting,” he says. Devyn nods at this, thinking back to Clarissa’s words and how the fight had left her entirely. How does one come to terms with the knowledge that they will die in the next few months? Is it a slow process of denial and then acceptance? She hopes that she will never have to find out, not at least until she's old and her children are grown.
