Rescuing Belinda

“Mother and father are still not on good terms. I don’t know what to do about them anymore. They are so stubborn.” Megan Bennet, the daughter of Alpha and King Talos Bennet of the MoonLove Pack and Kingdom uttered tiredly.

She was out in the woods with her brother to hunt for meat for dinner. As they walked in the woods, their shoes made some sounds, the snapping of woods and the crushing of dry leaves on the ground.

“You took after their stubbornness, Megan. You’re just like our mother. She never admits she’s wrong.” Damon Bennet, the only son and heir to the Moonlove Kingdom throne, her elder brother, answered coldly, keeping his eyes out for the prey of the night.

“No… you took after her! Not me!” Megan answered, feeling offended.

“I’ve sighted a deer.” Damon answered, with his eyes fixed on his prey. He pulled out his arrow from his quiver and began to fix it on his bow.

He pulled up his bow and pointed it at the deer, which was busy eating grass.

He was about to release the arrow when Megan sharply stopped him.

“Damon…” she whispered.

“Let me concentrate, Megan. If that Deer leaves, mom and dad won’t be the only ones having issues. You’d have issues with me too.” He answered, with his eyes still fixed on the deer.

“Look…” She kept tapping him pretty hard until he angrily dropped his hand.

“What?!” He almost yelled, and Megan hastily stopped him by blocking his mouth with her hand.

“Shhhh… look over there. That is a lady tied to a tree.” She whispered, pointing to where Belinda was tied.

Damon’s eyes fell on Belinda , and he clenched his jaw. He wondered how cruel people around were to tie her to a tree, all naked, in the cold.

“Why will they tie her to a tree? She isn’t even with clothes. It's cold.” Megan said with great pity. She began to move closer to a big tree to have a better look at her.

“We need to go back now. We don’t know what is going on, she is in another pack boundary, and we can never intrude. Let’s just hunt and go home.” Damon whispered at her back and grabbed her hand.

“No! I can’t just leave. She’s suffering, can’t you see? She looks so pale. Look at her, Damon. Don’t you feel pity for her at all?” Megan yanked her hands off his, and began to approach the short walls.

“Come back here, Megan! We shouldn’t be trespassing. It can get us killed.”

“Then I’ll do this alone! Can’t you see she needs help?! They are bad people. If they aren’t, they wouldn’t tie a young woman to a tree like this… naked! Who does that? Isn’t it better to just kill her than humiliate her like this?”

“So you are just going to walk into their territory? How do you know they aren’t watching her?”

“No! I’ll crawl in and get her out of there before no one sees me, and you don’t have to help me. I’m not surprised, you have no remorse for anyone other than yourself.”

Megan angrily turned to leave, but Damon grabbed her. “Wait…”

“Wha…t.”

“I’ll go in. Stay here. I can’t let you put yourself in danger. Not on my watch.”

Megan gulped hard and looked at his face. “You’ll save her?”

“Yes, and don’t ask me any more questions. I feel like I'll regret this already.”

“I love you! Thank you.” Megan answered, giving his arm a tight squeeze.

“Stay close to the border. I may need to pass her over to you. Just keep your head down.”

Damon warned his sister, as he removed the heavy things he had on him, like his bow and arrow.

After he was lighter, he looked around where Belinda was tied and noticed no one was actually watching.

‘That’s strange.’ He thought as he carefully climbed the short fence made of bricks. He already got rid of his shoes, so he hardly made a sound as he walked on the sandy ground.

He looked back and saw Megan staring at him fearfully. She had her eyes out for him, and this made him a little relaxed. He knew she would alert him if things were about to go south.

He got very close to where Belinda was, and pointed a flashlight on her face as he stared at her. She looked so beautiful up close.

‘What could you have done?’ Damon questioned himself and to his great surprise, she lifted her head slightly.

“Is somebody there?” Her voice sounded so soft, weak and unstable.

Damon uttered no word to her at first. Instead, he moved back to check how she was tied, and to figure out the fast way to get her off the tree.

He wanted to start cutting the rope with his pocket knife, when he called himself to order.

‘What if I touch her and she thinks I want to kill her. She’ll start screaming and we’re f**ked!’

He hastily moved away and moved his face closer to hers. “Hey…” He whispered.

“Please. Help. Me.” She butted in, using the remaining bit of strength in her to speak. Her head fell forward and her eyes fell shut.

“Hey…” He shook her softly, but she didn’t respond. He sighed and looked at Megan who was beginning to lose patience.

‘Why is he so slow?’

“Hurry!” She whispered aloud. And Damon began to cut the ropes that bound her to the tree.

He had to stay in front of her because she wasn’t conscious anymore, and she could fall off once all the ropes were cut.

He didn’t want her to fall to the ground and make a sound, so he let her fall on him as he cut the ropes.

After he succeeded in getting her off the tree, he made her lay her whole weight on him. He lifted her from her legs and threw her over his shoulders.

He gathered so much strength to lift her but when he lifted her, he realized she weighed less than he could ever imagine.

‘Do they feed her at all?’

He threw his knife in his pocket and began to approach the boundary where Megan was waiting.

“Give her to me.” Megan whispered, and Damon passed her over the short brick fence carefully.”

When Megan reached for her and carried her, she lifted her brows in awe at her weight.

‘What? She weighs less than 3kg?’ She reminisced as she waited for Damon to cross the fence.

After he was out, he took Belinda from Megan and they took to their heels. Running with Belinda in his arms wasn’t as hard as he thought. Carrying a deer was much of a work compared to Belinda.

After they were far from the pack boundaries, Damon took a pause and sighed.

“We still need to hunt, Megan! What were we even thinking?! Father would never let her in the house.”

“He doesn’t have to know, Damon! I can get her in through the back door and keep her in my room. I’ll ask my healer to revive her and you know… do whatever she can to make her better.”

“And dinner? And the pack we just minded their business? We’re doomed, Megan!”

“Relax, okay? Don’t you feel good that you’re saving someone? We were not seen by anyone. Our Kingdom is far from here, they can never think it’s us, okay? We aren’t doomed.”

“Oh my….” Damon uttered.

“And I’ll sort dinner, okay?! I’ll get two rabbits and we’ll be on our way home. That should do right? Please, cloth her with your coat. If I had one, I would have given it to her.”

“Just get on with it. I’ll stay here with this criminal.”

“Don’t call her that. You don’t even know her.”

“Exactly. We don’t know her. Why would everyone in a pack let her get tied to a tree without any offense? Think about it, Megan! If she did nothing, they wouldn’t just wake up and decide to tie her to a tree, naked.”

“Just watch her, okay? I’ll get dinner. And don’t do anything stupid, Damon.”

Megan picked up her bow and arrow and began to walk away. Damon laid Belinda on the ground and sat next to her.

‘If I get into serious trouble, Megan will definitely be behind it.’ He thought.

He switched on his torchlight and pointed it at her face. He stared at her as she lay unconscious.

‘Is she dead?’ He wondered. He placed his two fingers right underneath her jaw to feel her pulse. He could feel it but it was pretty faint.

Her skin was so cold and pale. He exhaled and removed the coat he wore. He lifted the upper part of her body and began to wear the coat for her.

She had a petite stature, so his coat was more like a gown for her. He buttoned down and pulled her closer into his arms and lifted her hands to his mouth.

He began to blow his warm breath on her hands. After a while of doing it, he furrowed his brows.

‘What are you doing, Damon?’ He questioned himself. He wanted to let go of her hand, but to his greatest surprise, she held his hand too.

He looked at her face, but she still seemed unconscious. He sighed and let her keep holding onto his hand like a baby.

‘I hate situations like this!’
