Mate

Tragic Love

After I fainted from the pain, I learned the truth about my mate Kaelen’s position as Alpha of the Grayswood pack. He had inherited it from his older brother, who had died in battle. Not only did Kaelen take his brother's power, but he also inherited his brother's widow, the former Luna, Lydia. I wanted to reject him and break free from our mate bond, but Kaelen wouldn’t let me. He begged me with tears in his eyes and promised, "I have to bear a pup with Lydia to truly inherit the pack. Violetta, I swear that you're the only one I love. Once Lydia is with pup, you and I can finally be together openly!" That year, Kaelen spent 54 nights in Lydia’s bed. At first, it was once a month, but soon it became nearly every two days. Finally, after the 54th night, the news came that Lydia was carrying his pup. And that was when I finally gave up hope. But when I faked my death and escaped with our pup, Kaelen went mad. He didn't care about the Alpha title he had just obtained. He searched the world over for us, desperate to find me and our pup.

Chapter 1
My son Sylvan looked up at me with pitiful eyes as tears streamed down his cheeks. He insisted he couldn't sleep until he saw his dad tonight. If it hadn't been for that heartbreaking sight, I don't think I would have found myself standing at Lydia's door.I hesitated, my hand hovering over the door. This door always brought back painful memories.A year ago, I had been playing with Sylvan when a sharp, suffocating pain suddenly gripped my chest. When I came to, I found my mate, Kaelen, in bed with Lydia. The sting from my mate's betrayal hit me hard, and I blacked out."The Elders drugged me…," Kaelen had said, kneeling beside my sickbed, his voice desperate. "My brother—he was killed by rogues. He didn't have kids, so according to the pack's law…""So, you got into bed with your brother's mate?" I interrupted, my nails digging into my palms. He grabbed my wrist tightly. "It was only to have a pup! The Elders said that once Lydia is with pup, I'll fully inherit the Alpha posit

Chapter 2
When I returned to Sylvan's room, he had already cried himself to sleep. In his dreams, he called out, "Dad… you promised you'd teach me how to shoot, so I could become the bravest warrior…"My heart tightened as I held him close. Poor little guy. He loved his father so much that he was still calling for him even in his sleep. But his father… his father was waiting for another pup. Sylvan had sat at the shooting range all night, hoping Kaelen would come back, but he never did.As I recalled what had happened, I pulled out the phone I had carefully stolen earlier. It had taken a lot of effort, but I had managed. I opened the message my father had just sent me.[Come to Silvercreek in seven days. I'll send someone to pick you up.]Years ago, I had eloped with Kaelen. My father never approved of him. He had been furious, and he threatened to never speak to me again. But when I sent word and said I wanted to come home, my father agreed without question.I kissed Sylvan's cheek gent

Chapter 3
The next morning, I comforted Sylvan, who was once again upset because his father didn't join us for breakfast. As I was doing so, a familiar, irritating knock came at the door."The elders want to see you in the council hall."Before Kaelen and Lydia's affair started, the servants would still call me "Lady Violetta". But now, everything had changed. My place in the Grayswood Pack had become unclear. Even the lowest omega now looked down on me.When I arrived at the council hall, all the elders and nobles of the pack were already there. The elders smiled at Lydia and said, "Congratulations. The healer has confirmed Luna is with pup."I couldn't stop myself from looking at Kaelen. He stood there with Lydia's hand in his, his joy so obvious it made me sick. The most respected elder, Timothy, stepped forward and bowed to them. He lead all the others in formally pledging their loyalty to Kaelen as Alpha."Luna Lydia is the only one who can bear the true heir to Grayswood Pack," Timo

"I've already explained to you," Kaelen said. "Lydia's with pup. She's alone, and I can't help but worry. That's why I'm spending more time with her."I didn't want to argue. "I'm not throwing a tantrum. Of course, Luna needs help while she's with pup. You can go do what you need to do."Kaelen looked at me in surprise, but then he seemed to relax just a little bit. He smiled gently. "I knew you'd understand, Violetta."Tomorrow, I'll spend the day with you and Sylvan," he promised.I held back my disgust and forced a smile as I said goodbye. The next day, Kaelen was thoughtful enough to prepare a car. He planned to take me and Sylvan out for a day of fun. When I saw Sylvan's hopeful face, I couldn't bring myself to refuse. But just as I was about to say something, Sylvan's smile faded. His face twisted in pain, and he clutched his stomach, his body convulsing as foam started to form around his mouth. I was terrified."Mommy, my stomach hurts so much...""Kaelen, call the hea

Chapter 5
I wasn't sure if Lydia had something to do with it, but the healer Kaelen promised to call never showed up, and Kaelen himself never came to check on Sylvan. When Sylvan passed out, he was still conscious enough to understand. He knew his beloved father had given up on saving him."Sylvan, how about I find you a new daddy, hmm?" I asked softly.I wasn't set on remarrying, but if that's what Sylvan wanted, I was willing to find someone else for him.Sylvan glanced at the photo of Kaelen by his bedside. He was quiet for a long time before pulling at my sleeve."I don't care who my daddy is. I just want to be with you, Mommy."These last few days, I hadn't been hiding the fact that I had been in contact with my father. Sylvan knew I was planning to leave soon. The second-to-last day before I planned to leave, Kaelen finally returned. He had already forgotten the pain Sylvan had suffered, and he was practically glowing with excitement."The elders agreed!" he said, his voice full

Chapter 6
Once we crossed the river, Sylvan and I boarded a plane to head home to Nebaria. On the flight, I overheard the passengers around me gossiping in hushed tones. They were talking about Kaelen—how he had run away from the ceremony.Kaelen ran? But wasn't that ceremony the one he had been dreaming about for years, the one where he would claim all the power?"I heard Alpha Kaelen ran because his mate, Violetta, left him!""But isn't his mate Luna Lydia? I heard he was always in love with her, and that when the Moon Goddess paired her with the former alpha, Kaelen was heartbroken and ran off to Nebaria to heal.""That's old news. He bonded with a she-wolf in Nebaria, and I heard he even had a pup with her!"I couldn't help but sneer inwardly. They had no idea. Sylvan tugged at his eye mask, just waking up from his nap."Mommy, are they talking about Daddy?" he whispered.I quickly pulled the mask back over his eyes. "You must have misheard. Go back to sleep, sweetheart. I'm here."S

After I gathered myself, I told my parents everything that had happened over the years. My father explained that after Isaac put me on the plane, he had gone back to Grayswood Pack to gather more information. According to the report, just before the ceremony began, Kaelen had suddenly felt a sharp, excruciating pain. The pain was so intense that he fell to his knees. It was the pain I had planned for him to feel—the kind that mimicked the agony a werewolf felt when they lost their mate. I had my father give him the medicine a few days ago, and it had triggered the reaction just at the right moment.Kaelen had obviously sensed it, but he refused to believe it. Filled with anxiety, he asked his subordinate, David, "Where's Violetta? Why isn't she and Sylvan here?"David hesitated before he spoke. "Alpha, Luna said no one was to disturb you for these three days. We wanted to tell you sooner, but..." He trailed off before delivering the shocking news. "There was a fire in the room wh

Kaelen refused to believe that Sylvan and I were really gone."I won't believe it until I see their bodies," he said, his voice low and filled with denial. The servants, who had witnessed everything, stood quietly around him, their faces filled with sorrow."Alpha," one of them said gently, "We saw it with our own eyes. Lady Violetta and Lord Sylvan... their bodies have already been taken away. They didn't survive. Please, accept it."Kaelen's eyes burned with fury as he grabbed a silver knife, ready to strike at the servant who spoke."I won't allow you to curse them!" he growled. "How could they be dead? Just a few days ago, they were fine!"After saying that, Kaelen continued digging, clearly in denial. The servants exchanged nervous glances. Knowing there was no other way, they brought forward the two bodies we had prepared for him.Kaelen froze. His breath caught in his throat as he rushed to kneel beside the bodies, trembling as he reached for the hand of the slightly la

Chapter 9
After Lydia's true identity was exposed, her status in Grayswood Pack dropped like a stone. For years, she'd used her "pureblood" noble status to push around the ordinary warriors. She had looked down on them, believing herself above them. Now, with everyone knowing she was only a half-blood—a mix of noble werewolf and commoner—those same people came forward, mocking her and throwing her past words in her face. The elders, who had once adored her, turned their backs. They demanded that she pay the price for her lies. All of this left Lydia terrified. She locked herself away in the castle, refusing to show her face. She could only hope that Kaelen might still care enough to defend her.Every day, she baked treats, trying to win him over. She even replaced all the housemaids, hoping it would somehow help her cause. One day, she approached Kaelen with a bright smile, ready to comfort him. But before she could even step into the room, she was quickly and roughly thrown out."Get out

When my father told me about everything Isaac had witnessed, I didn't feel touched or emotional at all. In fact, I was just speechless. When Sylvan and I were with him, Kaelen didn't appreciate us. Now he was pretending to be all sentimental? But at least under my father's protection, I had finally been able to sever my mate bond with Kaelen. And with that, I was free to live my own life. Thanks to my father, no one dared to call Sylvan an outsider or a bastard.Lately, Sylvan had been especially understanding. It had been three months since we returned, and he hadn't once mentioned Kaelen.I knelt down in front of him and asked softly, "Do you still miss your daddy?"Sylvan shook his head, looking up at me with wide eyes. "I don't want Daddy anymore. I just need you, Mommy. Everyone said Daddy hurt you, and he's bad. I don't want anyone to hurt you again, Mommy."My father had always wanted me to take over as the successor of Nebaria, but I wasn't cut out for managing politics
