Chapter 7: A shade of the past

Feeling like the last drop of liquid in me had dried up, I took yet another large gulp from the glass of water in my hand. I kept tapping my feet on the ground and the sound it produced annoyed me but I didn't stop, I couldn't.

"Let's bail it." My wolf told me but I refused.

"We are doing this for the pups, remember? He is the only one that can help us find them."

"Crap!"

"Are you ready to see him?" Alaric interrupted our conversation.

"Huh? Yeah." I forced a smile on my face.

I got up and nervously followed him as he led the way. I felt a knot in my stomach and my pores began to leak with sweat. I felt my heart pounding like it wanted to bail on me but I had to remain strong. "For the kids, for the kids, for the kids...." I repeated the mantra in my head.

There he was, sitting only a few steps from me. His eyes lingered on me while his facial expression portrayed bewilderment... So I felt. His beautiful eyes were fixed on me and I felt my whole self freeze.
