Chapter 8: A spark of hope

TRAVIS SKY

I rushed to her just in time to break her fall, she was frozen still in my arms like a statue-- just like the night my dad and I found her in the freezing snow.

"Are you okay?" Celestia asked as she rushed to us.

Just like the night she had a nightmare, I huddled her in my arms while gently patting on her back. She felt so little in my arms and her familiar scent caressed my nose. I had missed her so much and I had forgotten how helpless she became whenever she was frightened.

The others gathered around us, all asking the same question Celestia did.

She raised her fidgeting index finger to the window and broken words escaped her trembling mouth. "There...there was someone... Out there."

"Go survey the surroundings now!" I instructed Alaric and Dylan followed.

As her consciousness started to kick in, she jerked free from my hold, obviously not with the intention of being so rough as her lips curved into an awkward smile.
