Roman POV:

“Marvin,” I said without looking up when he walked into my office two days after his bold move to usurp my throne. “What are you doing here?”

“At least tell me to have a seat,” he snapped back, not caring who it was he was speaking with.

I raised my head then and regarded him with a cool look. “What if I don't want to?”

He frowned, muttered something under his breath, and took a seat. “You're being stubborn, Rome.”

My expression didn't change. “How so?”

“Don't you dare play coy with me,” he growled. “You're not fit for this role, and I'm literally giving you an opportunity to step down so you can go be with your mate. That's what you've always wanted, yes? To be free of the shackles our father put you in.”

I raised a brow. “It’s interesting how you know that, Marve. Have you been having heartfelt chats with that man?”

“Oh, I have.” He smirked at me. “I've also heard how much of a failure you are compared to me. You've never been able to hold a candle to my successes, Roma

  • Fated To My Sister's Mate   Chapter 143

Audrey POV: “Not that, Paul!” Michal screamed, dropping a lock of my hair and rushing to meet my other bodyguard, who looked traumatized by the fact that he was dragged into my makeup session. “I said the red one!” Due to the limited number of trusted people, Michal decided to take on the task of getting me ready for the wedding. Roman had been at the office throughout the day, and since the wedding was in the evening, I expected him to be back soon. Wanda was on standby in the visitors’ lounge to help me get into the dress, but in the meantime, Paul was on assistant duty. And what a confused assistant he was. I hid my laughter as he looked helpless while Michal scolded him briefly before returning to me and swiping a blusher on my cheeks, then studied my face with a small frown of concentration on hers. “You need a…aha! Paul, please hand over the brush with the pink tips!” On it went for about an hour and a half before she invited Wanda to help me with the dress and fix my hai

Audrey- “What the fuck is wrong with that man?” Michal muttered beside me after Marvin had gone in. I had the same question, but I’d given up on understanding Marvin a long time ago. He was too complex a person for me to unravel, and I could only wish him well. I sighed, looking at the time. It was far later than we’d planned, and I wanted to show Ruby her accessories before she went to bed again. Michal and I returned home quickly, and I had a pleasant surprise when I walked into the house. Ruby was still awake, but she wasn’t alone with Paul anymore. Instead she was talking animatedly about a toy in her hand to none other than my mate, who seemed to indulge her, smiling contentedly at her. I stayed quiet for a while, watching them, a weird feeling blooming in my chest. After having a conversation with Roman, I discovered that he was aware that the girl housed the surviving essence of his mom, and despite how odd it was, he’d accepted the fact, content with the fact that his

Audrey POV: “One more day!” Michal sang as she pranced into my room. I smiled at her, still drowsy from sleep. Roman had been unable to stay with me because of some work, and Ruby had lain by my side throughout the night before. I hadn’t seen the child in so long, and I’d hugged her tight, tears wanting to spill especially since I knew whose soul it was that resided in her body. I shushed Michal when she began to sing loudly, afraid that she’d wake the little girl that lay curled against me on the bed. “You seem more hyped about this wedding that I am,” I laughed, gently combing through Ruby’s hair. She slumbered quietly, a smile on her face. “It’s only right that I express the joy in my heart, don’t you think?” my bodyguard said with a grin, sitting on my couch. Unlike Paul, who fought to constantly look menacing, Michal was the definition of a disarmer. One moment she was smiling, and the next she was swinging blows with deadly precision. Still, she was altogether lovely, and

Roman POV: I stared long and hard at the file. “This is bad.” I’d gone through the documents in the file, and the issue was far worse than I’d assumed. True to the Crimson Wolves’ threats, the monsters had begun to roam the forests, infiltrating packs and causing rampage wherever they were. Mothers were afraid, children were wailing, and fathers were dying. And it was just the third day since I’d gotten the call from Lance. Thankfully, I’d spoken to him as soon as Julian brought the news, and he assured me that everyone had begun living in the safe house. “Really bad.” Julian reclined in his chair, the coolness of his tone belying the dilemma we’d just found ourselves in. I looked up at him. “At this rate, they’d be on our doorstep quicker than we know it.” He wasn’t lying. I resisted the urge to sigh and flipped through the document again. “Have the supplies been moved?” “Most of them have.” He twirled a pen with his fingers, closing his eyes. “The sanitation team is working

Audrey POV:“Why didn't you let me smack her on the head, Miss Audrey?” Michal spat angrily when Tanya had disappeared from our sight. I sighed, dropping her hand and indicating that she had quieten since we were in the library. “She's not the kind of person you want to anger, Michal.”My bodyguard grimaced. “She's not the kind of person I want to breathe around either, but I have had to accommodate idiots over the years, and she won't be the last of them.” I giggled in spite of the situation. “No, no, Michal. Let her be. She's not worth it at all. Besides, I'm the Alpha's mate. It wouldn't do for me to make a scene in a place like this.” She eased up when she heard that, but the scowl remained on her face, and she folded her arms. “That heifer definitely doesn't understand manners. How could she have announced your wedding just like that? Does she have no sense of decorum?”‘She once did,’ I thought to myself, ‘But she’s given up since she was pushed to the background.’ I momenta
