Chapter 2

Author: Mineral Water
Justin’s expression turned grim, and his eyes narrowed dangerously.

Usually, it would be my cue to give in.

I would surrender, whispering my love and begging him to stay.

Justin would often sigh, show mercy, and appease me with sweet nothings.

Things were different today, though. All I gave was silence.

I brushed past Justin, moving from room to room to erase myself from his world.

The home was supposed to hold our most beautiful dreams for our future together.

Yet now, I drifted across the rooms like a phantom, numbly packing my things.

I stopped dead in my tracks upon stepping into the master bedroom.

The bed was a wreck, the mattress sunken in places and tainted with unmistakable stains.

That wasn’t what broke me, though.

It was the sweet, thick, aggressive scent of an Omega in heat.

With my stomach churning violently, I covered my mouth and dry-heaved.

It became clear to me now.

They went beyond what could ever be forgiven.

The betrayal began long before tonight, before I could have a talk with Justin.

I was too blind, too devoted, and too stupid to see the truth.

Swallowing the pain, I picked up the pace and pushed myself to finish packing.

All the while, Justin and Marissa sat in the living room, giggling and flirting openly.

Judging by the volume, they wanted me to hear everything.

I tuned them out and sorted my possessions with a straight face.

On my way out, I was even kind enough to close the door for them.

Just before the door shut tight, Justin’s voice slipped through the crack.

“Fay, remember how you promised to do one thing for me, no questions asked?”

I stopped halfway, my hand still on the door.

During the pack’s coming-of-age hunt when I was eighteen, I stumbled and slipped toward a cliff.

It was Justin who grabbed me as if his very life depended on it.

Even when the rock tore into his arm, he held onto me tight and refused to let go.

To spare me from feeling guilty, Justin downplayed the injury.

From that day on, I owed him a favor.

Back then, Justin smiled and said that his only wish was my eternal happiness. He wanted nothing more than to have me by his side.

What would he want now?

I stood there in silence as he spoke matter-of-factly.

“Marissa is craving the berries from the forest south of the pack. Go pick them for her.”

I stared at him and nodded. “Sure.”

The favor I owed him wasn’t for me or him. It was ultimately meant for Marissa.

It was for the best.

As of now, we would be even.

With the weather volatile, it was a blizzard out there.

Braving the raging snow, I drove toward the southern forest.

The wind slashed against the car like blades while snowflakes hammered on the windshield.

Driving long distances in such weather conditions wasn’t my forte, but I didn’t even stop for a minute.

My fingers were frozen stiff, my clothes were soaked through, and my lungs burned.

Eventually, I found the berries.

However, the berries were cold by the time I brought them back.

Marissa took a quick bite, only to spit it out in disgust.

“Ew! It tastes awful when it’s cold.”

Without looking at me, Justin dumped the berries in the trash can and lifted her.

“Come on. I’ll take you to the forest for fresh pickings.”

Justin carried her out to the front passenger seat of my car.

Since his driver was off today, Justin took my car key without even asking.

When his gaze finally fell on me, his eyes reflected annoyance. “Don’t just stand there. Get in.”

After the earlier ordeal, I was too drained to pick a fight with him, so I climbed into the car without another word.

During the drive, the pair in the front messed around without a care.

I put my weight against the car window wearily, overwhelmed by a splitting headache.

Suddenly, a truck skidded on the icy surface, veering out of control toward us.

Justin sprang into action.

He yanked the steering wheel, shifting the crash to my side.

Seconds before impact, Justin dove over and shielded Marissa beneath him.

After a deafening collision, blood ran down my forehead.

Through my blurred vision, I saw Justin jolting out of the car with Marissa in his arms.

He anxiously examined Marissa for injuries, not once casting me a glance.

I smirked helplessly.

My mind drifted to that snowy night when Justin was granted permission to go on his first solo patrol drive. He snuck me along for the ride.

We were in the same situation where the car lost control and rammed into the cliff.

At the time, I was his choice.

Justin lunged toward me, taking the brunt of every shock and wound. He held me close as if the very thought of losing me was unbearable.

This time, he chose to trade my life to keep Marissa safe from harm.

My wolf let out a dying whimper within the depths of my soul.

I lost my consciousness to darkness.

A kind pack member took me to the pack’s infirmary.

During my week-long hospital stay, Justin never came to visit me.

Marissa, on the other hand, took great pains to broadcast her happiness to me through various channels.

“I can’t believe that he chose me in the face of death. Surely, you must be mad.

“He was going to check up on you, but the moment I complained of a headache, he stayed to keep me company.

“Just you wait, Fay. He’s going to be mine through and through.”

After going through the messages, I deleted them all.

I blocked her and Justin across all platforms.

Before, I carried a sliver of hope that we could salvage some sort of friendship due to our history, even after the mate bond was broken.

Now, all I could think of was to disappear from Justin’s life for good.

The avalanche rescue pushed my standing in the Northwind Pack to its height. No longer were there voices questioning my right as the future Luna. The invisible wall between me and Damian disappeared. His presence in my life became frequent, no longer there for just business reasons. Damian would take me to see the most stunning Northern Lights, spend time reading alongside me in the study, and attempt to cook a less-than-perfect breakfast for me. We were like any typical mates, enjoying the quiet and intimate moments together. Meanwhile, Justin faced the darkest hour of his life. With his power on a decline, the council elders lost all faith in him and began the process of removing him as the future Alpha. Amid his turmoil, he was approached by someone unexpected, a young she-wolf who actually saved his life. Marissa had threatened and forced her into exile. As it turned out, Marissa came across the she-wolf saving Justin. By threatening the safety of the she-wolf’

Three months flew by, and thanks to my outstanding planning, the resettlement and resource allocation for the newly developed area proceeded in an orderly and effective fashion while receiving little to no complaints. The Northwind Pack elders looked at me with newfound respect. At the celebration dinner, I was the belle of the ball in my silver gown. Damian waltzed toward me with a wine glass in hand, his eyes reflecting admiration like no other. “You have done really well and greatly exceeded my expectations,” he said. I responded confidently, “This is just the start. A worthy Luna should bring honor to her pack.” Damian read between the lines and got the message. His profound eyes flickered in delight. It might be the glow of the bonfire or the joy of victory, but the intensity in the air was thick that night. He walked me back to my quarters at the end of the celebration. At the door, he suddenly asked, “Have you ever regretted giving up on love in exchange for t

It took two days of travel before I reached the territory of the Northwind Pack. Unlike the mild southern woods, the North was vast yet unforgiving. The snowcapped mountains stretched beyond the horizon like the spine of a slumbering beast. The structures rose like fortresses, heavy with an air of solemn authority. The werewolves of this land held steely, wary gazes like no other. Scarlet Crews, Alpha Damian’s Gamma, was there to meet me. She escorted me to a car that brought me to the Alpha’s main fortress at the heart of the territory. Damian was an Alpha whose very name could shake the werewolf realm. Not of blue blood, Damian carved his empire through blood and iron will, bringing the divided packs under his command. He became the unchallenged Alpha of the North. Our mating pact was vital to the survival of both packs. The Shadow Pack had resources in both foliage and minerals while the Northwind Pack held the vital trade routes to the outside world and greater mi

“Mate?” Justin sprang to his feet while mumbling in denial, “No way.“How could she mate with some other wolf? I’m her fated mate!” He was lost in a whirl of thoughts about what had happened over the last few days. His mind replayed Fay’s unflinching gaze outside the venue, her serene determination when cutting off the mind link, and her resolute declaration. “You are absolutely nothing to me now.” Justin had not forgotten about the wolf-fang necklace. That night, Fay set down the necklace, a token of their promise, on the table. Justin had been so blinded by fury to understand the reality of the situation. His eyes darted toward the Luna, and his voice became hoarse with dread. “Mom… Fay returned the wolf-fang necklace before the gala…” Justin looked at the Luna with hope, seeking assurance from her that Fay’s little outburst was nothing substantial. However, the Luna’s drained and disappointed gaze shattered his last bit of hope. “Your father presented the neckl

  • Fated Yet Forsaken   Chapter 5

As I was leaving the Alpha House, the Luna had a driver sent for me.Halfway through the drive, the driver got a call from Justin. Justin mentioned that Marissa was hysterical with her pheromones all over the place. The driver received instructions to return at once. The driver was put in the spot. “Sir, the Luna tasked me with taking Ms. Everett home.” “Why are you wasting time on an outsider? You work for my family. Turn that car around now!” Justin barked over the phone. I told the driver calmly, “Pull over. I’ll walk the rest of the way.” After much hesitation, the driver stopped the car at the side of the road. I strolled under the moonlight, the wind slicing through my gown. My mind wandered to this day last year. I suffered a severe stomachache in the middle of the night from overindulging in drinks. Justin carried me on his back through the snowstorm to the infirmary. So much had changed in just a year. Back home, I received the wolf-fang necklace, my family

  • Fated Yet Forsaken   Chapter 4

I went to the Luna to take my leave, but she insisted that I stay. She mentioned that she needed a word with me after the gala. Not having the heart to deny her the talk, I sought a quiet corner to lie in wait. By the way the Luna went to great lengths to keep Justin and Marissa separated, she must fear that our already-strained bond would become beyond repair. The Luna kept a firm grip on Justin while introducing him to the guests. She engaged him in conversation, not giving him a chance to slip away. As a result, Marissa was isolated. A drunken Delta from a neighboring pack named Silas Waltz staggered toward Marissa and harassed her, hell bent on getting acquainted. “Relax. You’re an Omega. You should feel honored that I noticed you,” Silas uttered with measure. Marissa’s eyes welled up. Out of the blue, Justin broke free from the crowd and rushed to her rescue. He punched Silas right in the face. Stumbling back from the blow, Silas exploded in fury. “Justin! Ha
