Chapter 3

Author: Mineral Water
The day after I was discharged from the facility happened to coincide with the birthday gala of Justin’s mother, the pack’s Luna.

I’d rather not go. The only thing on my mind was to stay as far away from Justin’s family as possible.

However, the Luna had written the invitation to me by hand.

She went as far as to claim that the event could not be whole without me, the future Luna, in attendance.

I couldn’t forget how the Luna held my hand and told me to think of her as my mother after mine died giving birth to me.

Besides, someone ought to explain my broken bond with Justin to her.

In the end, I agreed to attend.

The party was held at the Alpha House where music drifted beneath the stars. The guests mingled among stone pillars and wolf totems, the air both solemn and vibrant.

I stepped into the estate and spotted them right away.

Marissa snuggled up against Justin, her head nestling in the crook of his neck.

Even when Marissa’s hold on him dragged at his pace, Justin didn’t pull away.

“Look at you. You practically risked your life to keep me safe. How can I ever repay you?”

Marissa looked up to meet my gaze and added with quiet intent. “Fay is your fated mate. Aren’t you worried about hurting her feelings?”

The pack members pulled funny looks, their eyes darting between the three of us.

It was then that Justin saw me. Out of instinct, he pulled Marissa off him and approached me.

“There you are, Fay. Come over.”

I didn’t even bother to stop. Instead, I snapped a curt look at him before heading to a quiet corner.

While Justin stood frozen, Marissa pressed closer to him.

Eventually, someone broke the silence.

A friend of mine spoke up sternly, “Hasn’t your mating ceremony with Fay been rescheduled for soon? Justin, you’re the future Alpha. What are you doing? What do you take Fay for?”

Justin glanced at me nonchalantly and scoffed.

“The mating ceremony? Fay has already decided to break our mate bond. There won’t be a mating ceremony.”

Every wolf gasped.

In a pack where tradition ruled above all, breaking a mate bond was a scandal that could haunt generations.

The pack elders clustered around me right away.

“What has happened between you two, young pup?”

“You grew up together, and you’re fated mates.”

“Didn’t you risk a 20,000-foot climb to pray for Justin at the Moon Goddess Temple? If there’s a misunderstanding, why not just talk it out?”

My gaze fell on the Moon Goddess bracelet on Marissa’s wrist.

With Justin lying critically wounded in battle, I obtained the bracelet by free climbing the mountain to pray to the Moon Goddess for her protection over him.

Following the climb, it took me three months before I recovered mobility in my hands.

For the first time, he shed tears in front of me and pressed his lips onto the band.

He vowed to always treasure the bracelet just as he cherished me.

Yet, the bracelet had been passed to another.

Fighting the gut-wrenching agony, I swallowed the scream in my throat and let out a wry chuckle.

Justin gave his life away, along with the Moon Goddess bracelet, to Marissa.

Our unforgettable history together could not beat his present with Marissa.

With the elders’ pleas ringing in my ear, I cut them off softly.

“There is no misunderstanding. Things are over between us. The tokens of our promise have been returned.”

The Luna rushed to the scene, her expression laced with worry when she saw my face.

She grabbed hold of Justin’s arm and yanked him over to me.

“Apologize to Fay now,” the Luna barked.

However, Justin simply stared at me stubbornly in silence.

Not one to linger, I lifted my skirt and walked away to hide in the shadow of the terrace.

Despite the chilly night breeze, I could breathe easier there than indoors.

Soon enough, Marissa showed up.

She rested her hand on the railing, the massive moonstone on her finger glittering.

Not eager to spend a second alone with her, I turned on my heels to leave, only for her to grab my wrist.

She didn’t even bother to hide the hostility in her eyes. “I bet you’re feeling pretty smug because the Luna stood up for you.”

Furrowing my brows, I tried to pull my hand free.

Marissa’s grip only tightened, and her nails sank into my skin.

“Don’t flatter yourself. She’s only nice to you because of your dead mother. Too bad your mother was too weak to carry you. Hang on… Maybe it’s the curse in your blood that killed your mother tragically.”

Marissa crackled out loud.

“Once I have Justin completely under my spell, do you think she’d still side with you, a half-breed outsider, against her son?”

There was one line that could never be crossed, and that was to insult my parents.

Clenching my fists, I shook with rage.

“Get lost!”

Just as I was about to shove her hand away, Marissa’s eyes flickered with success.

Instead of resisting, Marissa went with my push and fell back dramatically. As if that wasn’t enough, Marissa slapped herself.

“Smack!”

The sharp sound cut through the night sky.

Marissa fell to the floor in sobs. “Save me, Justin! I didn’t want her to be mad at you, but she hit me… She said that you meant nothing to her.”

Justin jolted toward the commotion.

With a hard grimace, Justin took hold of my arm and commanded, “Apologize, Fay.”

I smirked sarcastically.

There was a time when he would stand against the world rather than let any wolf hurt me.

Yet there he was, standing right before me in menace.

The wolf, the one who was once mine, was long gone.

“I didn’t hit her, but she’s got one thing right,” I said in composure.

Justin froze. “What’s that?”

“You are absolutely nothing to me now.” I looked him in the eye.

I pried his fingers off my arm and walked away without looking back.

As I walked down the stairs, a betraying tear slid down my cheek.

The avalanche rescue pushed my standing in the Northwind Pack to its height. No longer were there voices questioning my right as the future Luna. The invisible wall between me and Damian disappeared. His presence in my life became frequent, no longer there for just business reasons. Damian would take me to see the most stunning Northern Lights, spend time reading alongside me in the study, and attempt to cook a less-than-perfect breakfast for me. We were like any typical mates, enjoying the quiet and intimate moments together. Meanwhile, Justin faced the darkest hour of his life. With his power on a decline, the council elders lost all faith in him and began the process of removing him as the future Alpha. Amid his turmoil, he was approached by someone unexpected, a young she-wolf who actually saved his life. Marissa had threatened and forced her into exile. As it turned out, Marissa came across the she-wolf saving Justin. By threatening the safety of the she-wolf’

Three months flew by, and thanks to my outstanding planning, the resettlement and resource allocation for the newly developed area proceeded in an orderly and effective fashion while receiving little to no complaints. The Northwind Pack elders looked at me with newfound respect. At the celebration dinner, I was the belle of the ball in my silver gown. Damian waltzed toward me with a wine glass in hand, his eyes reflecting admiration like no other. “You have done really well and greatly exceeded my expectations,” he said. I responded confidently, “This is just the start. A worthy Luna should bring honor to her pack.” Damian read between the lines and got the message. His profound eyes flickered in delight. It might be the glow of the bonfire or the joy of victory, but the intensity in the air was thick that night. He walked me back to my quarters at the end of the celebration. At the door, he suddenly asked, “Have you ever regretted giving up on love in exchange for t

It took two days of travel before I reached the territory of the Northwind Pack. Unlike the mild southern woods, the North was vast yet unforgiving. The snowcapped mountains stretched beyond the horizon like the spine of a slumbering beast. The structures rose like fortresses, heavy with an air of solemn authority. The werewolves of this land held steely, wary gazes like no other. Scarlet Crews, Alpha Damian’s Gamma, was there to meet me. She escorted me to a car that brought me to the Alpha’s main fortress at the heart of the territory. Damian was an Alpha whose very name could shake the werewolf realm. Not of blue blood, Damian carved his empire through blood and iron will, bringing the divided packs under his command. He became the unchallenged Alpha of the North. Our mating pact was vital to the survival of both packs. The Shadow Pack had resources in both foliage and minerals while the Northwind Pack held the vital trade routes to the outside world and greater mi

“Mate?” Justin sprang to his feet while mumbling in denial, “No way.“How could she mate with some other wolf? I’m her fated mate!” He was lost in a whirl of thoughts about what had happened over the last few days. His mind replayed Fay’s unflinching gaze outside the venue, her serene determination when cutting off the mind link, and her resolute declaration. “You are absolutely nothing to me now.” Justin had not forgotten about the wolf-fang necklace. That night, Fay set down the necklace, a token of their promise, on the table. Justin had been so blinded by fury to understand the reality of the situation. His eyes darted toward the Luna, and his voice became hoarse with dread. “Mom… Fay returned the wolf-fang necklace before the gala…” Justin looked at the Luna with hope, seeking assurance from her that Fay’s little outburst was nothing substantial. However, the Luna’s drained and disappointed gaze shattered his last bit of hope. “Your father presented the neckl

As I was leaving the Alpha House, the Luna had a driver sent for me.Halfway through the drive, the driver got a call from Justin. Justin mentioned that Marissa was hysterical with her pheromones all over the place. The driver received instructions to return at once. The driver was put in the spot. “Sir, the Luna tasked me with taking Ms. Everett home.” “Why are you wasting time on an outsider? You work for my family. Turn that car around now!” Justin barked over the phone. I told the driver calmly, “Pull over. I’ll walk the rest of the way.” After much hesitation, the driver stopped the car at the side of the road. I strolled under the moonlight, the wind slicing through my gown. My mind wandered to this day last year. I suffered a severe stomachache in the middle of the night from overindulging in drinks. Justin carried me on his back through the snowstorm to the infirmary. So much had changed in just a year. Back home, I received the wolf-fang necklace, my family

  • Fated Yet Forsaken   Chapter 4

I went to the Luna to take my leave, but she insisted that I stay. She mentioned that she needed a word with me after the gala. Not having the heart to deny her the talk, I sought a quiet corner to lie in wait. By the way the Luna went to great lengths to keep Justin and Marissa separated, she must fear that our already-strained bond would become beyond repair. The Luna kept a firm grip on Justin while introducing him to the guests. She engaged him in conversation, not giving him a chance to slip away. As a result, Marissa was isolated. A drunken Delta from a neighboring pack named Silas Waltz staggered toward Marissa and harassed her, hell bent on getting acquainted. “Relax. You’re an Omega. You should feel honored that I noticed you,” Silas uttered with measure. Marissa’s eyes welled up. Out of the blue, Justin broke free from the crowd and rushed to her rescue. He punched Silas right in the face. Stumbling back from the blow, Silas exploded in fury. “Justin! Ha
